  1. All may not be lost - I have the option of a Greys G-Tec 13ft Float for the same price as the Prodigy. http://coarse.greysfishing.com/en-gb/produ...g-tec-13-float/ From what people are saying I'm guessing this will be a better option for me? Thanks to all who took the time to respond. I just had this feeling inside that I hadn't chosen the right rod.
  2. Now I just have this sort of sick feeling in my stomach Anyone want to buy a brand new Greys Prodigy float rod? I can see this is going to get me into trouble.....
  3. I am new to coarse fishing, although already fly fish, and have probably spent so long looking at which tackle to buy that I just ended up confusing myself! In the end I've gone for a Greys Prodigy 12ft float rod (reel line rating 3-10lb) matched with a Shimano Exage 3000 size reel and have some Daiwa Sensor 4lb and 8lb line on order. I will most commonly be fishing the Basingstoke Canal but will try out some of the local fisheries from time to time. As an idea, one nearby quotes: "The lake holds approximately 5000 fish including Roach up to 3lbs, Carp from 1lb-8lbs, Rudd up to 1.5lbs, Tench up to 8lbs and Perch up to 4.5lbs" I also intend on picking up a feeder rod at some point in the future, so will look to use the same reel with it. Should I have gone for a 13ft rod? (I could still change) Should I have gone for a 4000 size reel? (I could send it back for a swap) Are the lines I've chosen sensible? Thanks for any advice Richard
  4. Bought July 2009. Used no more than a dozen times last year - not had a single outing this year. Both rod and reel are in excellent condition. They would pass as new if it were not for the tiniest scratch on the butt end cap. Of course, you can tell the cork handle has been held! Cost £185 for rod, £100 for reel, asking £185 for both to include floating and intermediate Scierra HMT Tapered fly lines with LoadingZone (the intermediate has never been in the water) and two brand new Fulling Mill 9' 2x 6lb leaders still in their packs. The reel comes with the original four spools. Will consider splitting. Happy to send photos - I can't figure out how to attach them here. £185 plus £5 towards P&P
  5. Hi Austin, thanks for taking the time to reply. I get your point about shock loading / constant load and I suppose this sort of answers my question. Cheers
  6. I'm new to coarse fishing and looking to buy my first float and feeder rods. However, I am a little unsure on line breaking strain. A lot of rods seems to be in the 2-6lbs, 2-8lbs range. I found the following info which was sort of helpful: http://www.gofishing.co.uk/Angling-Times/S...-strain-guide2/ If I look at, say, Daiwa Sensor 6lb line it has a diameter of 0.24mm. So breaking strain is going to be around 10lb 4oz Frobury Farm is local to me and a venue I will likely try. According to their website: "Past catches include perch up to 4lb and carp up to 15lb." Does this mean that if I hook one of their 15lb carp on my 6lb line it's going to break? Thanks for any advice. Richard
