  1. Hi guys i have both the above reels, both work fine but could do with a service, the 505 has had the paint removed on the removable side cover for primmer.

I am looking to swap them both for a usable baitcasting setup.

I live in Bedfordshire and would like to meet to do the trade if possible.

    Thanks

Ok Guys i now have a rod, i will swap both the reels for a nice baitcaster (multiplier) reel to use for pike perch and chub.

    Thanks

  3. The river Lea runs through the park/common in Wheathamstead town centre and the last 10 to 15 swims just before the common ends is a good section for Chub and in the evening for smallish Barbel up to around the 5lb mark and is free fishing. Verulum AC own the next stretch as it leaves the common for around a mile of bankside past Marford Farm plus a shorter stretch upstream of Wheathamstead called Leasey Bridge which Peter mentioned.

I am a member of Verulum AC and fish both these sections. see here for details --> Verulum AC

I don't know about the fishing in Harpenden but Leasey Bridge is between Harpenden and Wheathampstead.

    Thanks for the info Guys.

BoldBear i will be looking into VAC very soon matey.

  4. Hi Guys, could anyone give me any info on river lea at Batford, i know Verulam angling club used to use the river at Batford but do not think they do anymore.

I have never caught river Barbel and would love to give it a go.

    Thanks

  5. Hi guys does anyone know if there is any free fishing in Harpenden, i was walking there the other day, looked over a road bridge in the town to see some magnificent Chub and some Barbel.

If no free fishing, do you know of club that holds the rights to fish in the town.

    Thanks.

  6. just found the link to your web site ,i dont think the prices are too high they seem in line with other accomodation i have tried or looked at,we have looked at properties very close to yours but they have not looked as nice or had central heating which i think is essential for winter breaks,is the fishing and heating/lighting included if so then will certainly bear it in mind...just one query is the boat included if not wont it get in the way of the fishing if there are 2 of you.

    judy

I know this is an old thread but i would just like to say something about the price today.

We went to the site and the place looks very nice indeedy.

Anyway i thought it would make a nice xmas present for somebody, just two nights away piking on the river so we rang up to book it, it is done through an agency, and the price is the same for 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, days so if your planning a couple of days away then be prepared to pay the full weeks price, which in my view is completely overpriced for just two days.

Oh yes i forgot to say, There is an agency Fee on top of that as well lol.

So yes it is well overpriced.

  7. Ok guys hope someone will be able to help here.

I live in Dunstable in bedfordshire, i do have car to get around, but because of my condition i am not really up for walking around lakes.

What i would like to know is this.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to find some big perch on the Lure, i dont expect them to be jumping out of the water at me, i understand that i will have to work for them.

I went to Wilstone which is 10-15 min up the road to me because i used to fish it as a lad, thats around 45yrs ago lol, i am sure it was smaller then, it looks like they may have merged two reservoirs into one. Anyway it was a bit daunting to say the least, when i was a lad, you used to get follows on your spinner/plug nearly every other cast, as i said i cant walk far so i stayed on the car park bank, i did not have one follow, i know there must still be fish in there (me thinks)

Can anyone please let me know where i might have the best chance of hooking whilst Lure fishing,

What bank do you think is the best.

I dont think there is any chance of taking over anyones favorite swim, i have taken a look up there 3 times now and yet to see another Angler.

Also do you know if there are big perch at Park farm (Eaton Bray) for the taking, either dead baiting or lobs.

I hear it is quite small fishery if so i think Lure would be out of the question.

I was also thinking of having a go deadbaiting for them on the canal, anyone tried this method locally.

    Thanks.

    Jim

  8. went out and bought £30 worth of lures on sunday Big S, fox bucktail spinner, abu high low jerk bait, some little battery ones that flash when you jerk them and my favorite a 4 jointed herring imitation that they call 4Play from prologic savage

    PP1-320.jpg

i bought the perch pattern one and headed off to the canal to test it and see it in action. its the best imitation of a fish ive seen yet straight retrieve is good but as you know you need to jerk it off a bit and on my canal where it is currently next to impossible to get a bite on lures i got 2 hits but never fully connected and this is saying a hell of a lot for my stretch of canal where you can do an all out pike campaign and not catch a thing

    just thought id share

Thanks for sharing Andy, could i ask where you brought them mate please.

  9. TRYING to find a FOOLPROOF copy facility for DVD's and cd's from disc to disc and avi to disc etc. Basically something that will do it all? IF such a thing exists??

BUT IT HAS TO BE IDIOTPROOF!!!! Why? Cos' I want to use the bloody thing!!! NERO is, well it is, what I want to say is..........I DON'T like it and it does not like me or ANY of the pc's I have owned! So anything else please?

Hi Chris, i use nero for straight forward dvd copying, but for converting from AVI to dvd i use " winAvi" you can convert most things to dvd with it, ( and vice versa ) i just use default settings which work for me, in this way i just have to click on one button.

  10. Hi guys, i have searched the net on my subject but with no joy. I want to go to france carp fishing, but i want to know of any places where you can fish for carp on a day ticket so to speak.

I do like the look of eltons post concerning the " drive and survive " but dont want to be limited to the one place.

So can anyone give some advice, dont mind traveling couple hours from port.

    Thanks

  11. Just about the worst conditions you can get in my opinion. Oxygen levels will be very low and the fish are unlikely to feed. I've had some good catches after evening thunderstorms following days like that though - the really heavy rain cools and oxygenates the surface layers and often gets the better fish feeding on or near the surface. Can be a lot of fun fishing mixers when that happens :D

Looks like we are in for some rain today, might go back and try again at weekend.

    Thanks

  12. Went fishing yesterday but dident manage to start till 10am, took cheese paste, sweetcorn, bread, pellets and maggots. We had a terrible day, we were fishing a small still water with river running into it.

I havent fished it for a long time, but there are big chub, roach, big perch, pike.

Yesterday was terrible just the odd small perch and nothing else, water was warm, weather here was very hot in the sun, which was beating down on the water all day long.

Would you say this was less favourable conditions for fishing, or did some of you catch well in those conditions.

By the way i was fishing in Hertfordshire.

  13. I love catching carp but am not a "serious" carp angler, You wont find me in camouflaged battle dress camped out in the cold nights, in my opinion anyone can catch carp using 15lb line, size 6 hook and a tree trunk to haul them in through the weed, if fishing for them i use a size 12 barbless hook 6-8lb line, small float and just lightweight float rod and i have never been snapped off and left a hook in carps mouth, Last week i landed a 23lb leather, and played correctly managed to get it through lots of weed that was growing on bottom of the lake (Manor farm)

Carp are a great fish but i would much rather catch a 7lb bream than a ten pound carp.

  14. Just a quickie. Went to Manor farm near biggleswade yesterday for couple of hours, was fishing floating crust on the carp lake. Missed a couple of good fish, but eventually got stuck into a nice 23 and a half pound leather carp and landed it on light tackle, i was using 8lb maxima it was exact colour of the water i was fishing, size 12 barbless hook.

Twice i had nice fish just coming up to my crust and gently just rolling over on top of it then slowly swimming off, not in panic as they sometimes do.

  15. I am going to a commercial that i know holds carp tench chub bream roach.I only usually fish the canal so use lightish gear.will i be ok fishing 2lb bottom on the commercial as i plan to catch a few silvers before beefing up for a go at the carp,i plan to use small punched bread, maggot, caster on the 2lb bottom. Also will 6lb mainline straight through be ok for a go at the carp, think they go to about 15lb(no snags).

I myself was fishing for silvers and trout just last week at manor farm in bedfordshire, i was using 4.5lb straight through, 13 foot match rod, and hooked and landed 2 carp, one mirror of 13lb and a common of 10lb. yes it is more hard work to get them in, but much more fun than using 15-20lb line and just dragging them in. At this time of year carp are slower and more sluggish, couple months time i wouldent dream of using light tackle for them.

  16. Hi guys i was wondering if anyone knows this bit of river, it is situated close to Thornborough in bucks, and runs under the 421. Just next to it if you pull off the road there is a site if an ancient bridge, i know not what the river is called but would like to know who has the angling rights as it looks very tempting.

Not a lot to go on i know but if you can help i would much appreciate it.

    Thanks.

  17. Just like PoleMaster i go fishing to catch fish, if i have paid to fish then my prime reason for being there is to catch fish, wether it be canal, river, lake. they are all comercial fisheries if someone is running them as a fishery and charging others to fish them.

I know at least two so called "comercial fisheries" that definitly put the fish before the Angler.

  18. Just wondering if anyone has fished this lake at Manor Farm Fishing bigglswade.

If so please can you give some advise as what swim/swims to fish if possible for bream.

I will be visiting the fishery on the weekend and cant get there until that time, so cant check it out or ask local fishermen about it.

I have looked at the site and all looks ok, but then it would wouldent it.
