  1. I have no knowledge of the crash.

I did observe that it was at a junction. From my experience in perfect visibility not all people merge easily into the flowing traffic at a junction.

On the same night and only an hour before the BBC were carring a report that celebrations were cancelled in Bridgewater due to torrential rain.

Then we get reports of smoke fog mist.

Hmmm not a good night to be on that stretch then.

Poor surface, impaired visibility and traffic problems.

    Hmmm

  2. Had a great session after Rudd last evening.

I have scaled down to a 2wt 8' rod and floating line, 3lb leader and a size 16 or 18 Red Tag or Klinkhammer fished in the surface film.

An 8 oz Rudd is a good fish on this tackle, if you can catch them.

I wish I could get back up to my previous high point of hooking one take in five

They make Trout look awfully easy.

Spot on.. Rudd are sooo much more fun.

Get a travel rod so that you are never without.

Any time the river in gin clear whack out a klinkhammer.

  3. Talking to someone on another forum and he suggested that carp are the future for fly fisheries.

They are cheaper to produce than trout.

    They fight harder than trout.

They live much longer than trout.

They will tolerate less than perfect water conditions.

When they grow too big for comfortable fly fishing they can be sold on to coarse fisheries to fund replacements.

It would be interesting to spice up a few put and take trout fisheries with a few carp. It could catch on.

I wonder how long it would be before Korda or Palletrax come out with some indispensable flys :P

I have fished for them on the fly... their eyesight is really carp (typo there) and you need to be patient for them to find the fly.

Where as rudd are so damn quick there is hardly time to straighten up.

Could we not get GM rudd and dace so that they became as gross as the pot bellied carp , then we got a real chance.

  4. Cheers for the info about keeping casters some things to try out. So how and what equipment will I need to turn casters. Just from shop bought maggs?

Another simple method for small amounts is just to riddle your maggots as you sit there, get one that fits on a square box. Tip em out into a spare box. On a hot day it wont be long for some of them to turn... good way to compare tackle shops.

  5. In Summer I might get through kilos of groundbait but in Winter I tend to just offer up the odd chipolata sized lump of groundbait every 20 minutes or so.

Chipolata shapes catapult easier by the way.

Mincemeat and cranberries can also come in useful.... avoid mincing up the roasties tho..... leaves an oily slick

  6. Something is wrong when silt & weed are bad enough they have to drain a lake they last drained in 2007.

I think that we have to differentiate between "need to do" this and "do this" .

The owner is a master of the media (just ask Matty) and I can see (without visiting) that fishing there is a truely wonderful leisure exxperience.

At the end of the day it is a mosel of truely positive publicity,

Now just get in the queue

  7. Rivers last week here end were gin clear.... 1 st problem.

Rivers last week end here were very low ....2 nd problem

I ended up down on 18 and 20 hooks, wading to the opposite of streams to run the float down that side of the stream and fishing rafts of weed (just holding back outside the raft to tempt out a dace or chub) to catch anything much.

  8. Unfortunately the vast majority go to Lough Neagh to be 'grown on' for food for the Dutch and Asian markets!....not much chance of increasing the population there!

I cannot remember when I last saw an eel on a suffolk/essex border river......

Or remember anyone locally saying that they caught one.

Do otters and crayfish like em?

  9. Course you can...Just liquidise some bread...simples :)

Could nt agree more.... just watch the fish go crazy for this.

On a river it can also lighten the river bed so that you can see the fish move over it (when wearing the polaroids...!)

  10. Look for the features.... so look along the edge of the Park... lots seem to fish there but I have only caught small stuff.

Opposite side is a short stretch with a road alongside, I watched a bloke piking there and seemed to get some success.

When a boat goes past cast in as the churned up water seems to get the fish feeding, but it soons settles down. -- this is more a general Braods point.

  11. Do you think that the sponsors would like a little sign on the bank "This swim has been sponsored by...etc)?, then the club/ water owner could charge extra for the premium fed pegs. Another lucrative and previously untapped source of income could be in fish products made from the winning fish. This would be in addition to all the kit used in catching the fish eg rod reel line hooks bivvy stove bottle opener
