  1. With he promise of 6 boats suposedly turning up for this comp it was a slight let down that only nthree made it to the booking in and only two left the harbour to do battle . TR 1 could not get a crew ,Relentless cried off at the last minute due to conditions ,skip Emmery was fishing a shore comp at ramsey and wicked Hen developed enghine problems on the starty line which was bad luck for them and guest crewman Dave Christen, the hen called it a day and headed back into the harbour . This left the two die hards of Merit 1 and Bones who left port in search of the first fish of the day . The days comp was for a tope and five other species that were drawn out of the hat at the time of booking in ,they were Launce ,dogfish, calig, bull huss and pouting, with cod as a separate pool .No cod was caught during the comp so the pool money was decided by who had the largest dogand this went to Lee Graham of Merit 1 with a dog of 2.2lb.which beat Cameron Sayle 's one off bones by 2ozs . The weather was quite nice but there was a sharp south west wind blowing and there was to say the least a slight chop on the water . Both boats found launce very easy at the back of Douglas head and whilst Merit 1hung around the dolfin trying to catch calig and or a pouting it was Bones that took the plunge and headed out to sea tyo a point 3miles off shore in search of the pouting ,job done the Crew of bones headed inshore once more in seach of a doggie next on ly to be passed by Merit 1 on their way out to a similar mark to get their pouting .When they returned the announced that they were going to head south to a huss mark and the on to a cod one .Twenty minutes later and still not having a dog Bones skip made the decision to head south through the rough sea to port sodrick and then to port grenagh.no joy at the first mark but Cam did get a doggie at the second.Merit one had no joy getting a Huss and neither did Bones who decided once more to go offshore in the search of tope . At the tope mark down went big baits but with no joy ,Merit 1 came along side and sai that they too had failed to get tope and this meant at this time they were ahead by one fish which was the calig .They headed back towards Douglas and with time running out Bones was not far behind them .Still neading a calig I headed Bones right into the gap between the breakwater and the dolphin and told cam to drop a line ,bang straight in to a fish ,low and behold it was a calig which maent it was a tie at four species each ,time up and it had to go to the scales to see who won the spoils of the day which was a minimum 1st prize of £100 which was donated by our sponsers of the day TWO AND A HALF MEN. When all was said and done the scales said that Merit1's bag weight was 6lb.10.875ozs and Bones bag weight was 5lb.11.5ozs and so it was Skip Bridson and his three crew who took victory over Skip Jamie and Cameron of Bones in a very hard days fishing by virtue of the rough conditions .Prior to the weigh-in Merit 1 were hoping for the victory as Lee had snapped one of his rods in half and Gary"capt morgan" Bridson was caught bird nesting again and will have to buy a new reel of line . It was felt that this new format of comp was a succes ,but its full potential was hindered by the weather . Thanks to those who braved the day and i for one am ready and raring to go for the next comp which is on the 29th may fishing 12am til 6pm and will be a tope and 5 species drawn on the day plus a single fish pool and is to be fished in the laxey area with the boundries for this competition being north of Onchan head to include the paddle wheel and as far north as you want to go. Jamie316 NO PICS THIS TRIP.

  3. With only three boats taking part in the opening event of the manxboatfishing .com competition series the day was one by Wicked Hen only by the virtue of topping the scales at the wiegh-in as all three boats had the same ammount species . A bakers dozen for each of the boats with the Hen having the only photographed fish which was a bullhuss and so gave them the valuble extra 5lb in bag wieght . When we left douglas the weather was brilliant and the sea was calm ,fishing was only allowed south of the toll gates but the douglas 6mile mark was allowed .Both Merit 1 and Bones headed out to this mark and both had successas by the time both boats got to the liverpool wreck mark both were on 8 species each ,their paths did not cross after this as both boats went off to different marks in seach of the the one to win the comp .Wicked Hen from the start headed straight south and apart from getting the bullhuss did not manage to capture any thing really different than anyone else . There was only one pool in todays comp and this was for the heaviest cuckoo wrasse and in the end it was shared between Bones and Merit1 each having one of 6.5ozs . with no one catching any thing exceptional ,pictures were not the order of the day i am affraid as time was pressing for each boat to get on to the next mark and to make sure that they were back at the correct time for the wiegh-in . It was thought by all taking part that for this time of year the fact that all boats caught 13 species each and a total of 15 different ones being caught between all of us this was a very good start to what is hoped will be a fun packed year . Many thanks to those who were able to take part and many thanks to our sponser of the day manxboatfishing.com for giving us a gaurenteed 1st prize of £100,this made the total prize fund for the day £200,not bad for a few hours fun eh lads . The next comp is on the 8th may booking in at 9am ,fishing 10am til 4pm ,this comp is a tope and best of 5other species drawn out of the hat on the day (something new ,lets see if it works ),every boat will be made most welcome as these comps are open to all and are not affiliated to any club ,entry fee is £10per person with a max of 4 people per boat with a max of 4rods per boat with a max total of 12 hooks in the water at any one time . For futher information log on to the site or ring me on 498464. This comp also carries a gaurenteed 1st prize of £100+ REULTS 1ST WICKED HEN 13 SPECIES BAG WEIGHT OF 28LB.2OZS. 2ND BONES 13 SPECIES " " 19LB 3RD MERIT 1 13 SPECIES " " 18LB.5.75OZS Jamie316.
