  1. Personally i like over grown hardly fished rivers weather they be wide as the Ribble or narrow as Winchim Brook ,you just can't beat crawling throw nettles trying to create a small area to fish in amongst the over growth.

On the other hand i like large lakes in nice surroundings with trees around it ware you don't get idiots shouting to each other across the lake, allso like fishing small pools with lots of features like lilies ,weed for Tench and cruies

  2. That's some fishery!

"Loads" of pound plus roach, two pound perch and a five pound tench is "no bigun". I wish they were like that near me!

The roach and perch ware from separate waters lol and a 5lb Tench is a fare size and i love catching them esp on light tackle just am spoilt really for Tench as i fish some excellant Tench waters main species along with Barbel i target to be trufull. So at times i take decent fish for granted'd.

  3. FT...........if they are the onces I'm thinking, they come in brown or green and are oblong (or a squashed cylinder if you like) with a big slab of lead on the back. If so they just try another tackle shop as I've seen em in virtually every shop I've been in! Cheap as chips too at about 90p a throw. I use em on the rivers for micro pellets but cut the tops of em.

Yeah i use them also have done for years caught me many of big fish .These the ones you mean?http://www.tackleshop.co.uk/ProductImages/drennanovalblockend.jpg ones i get are ussally a darker green tho.

  4. I know what you mean it is a hassle, but I suppose rather the using a float a small feeder would be better perhaps. With a quiver tip rod, or perhaps a swing tip? Almost a float innit?

Yeah Rabbit that's wat i usually do when it gets really choppy get the old swing tip out, love watching it lift up .Need to buy my self a new swing tip rod now you mention it!

  5. Grey ill give that a go one day never hered of it befor wat do you use to keep the "Led" in place ledger stops?

I use a long stemmed waggler float, and after casting sink the rod tip under the water, and reel in a couple of feet, and keep the rod tip under the water, until you get a bite. Then strike upwards as a side strike might be a bit tricky.

Yeah i allways sink my line my after casting ,but at times it takes alot more ,esp on large waters when fishing for big fish on small baits such as maggot. The methord I've been using does work it's just i'm hopeing to find some differnt methods to see if i can find a better one as am not 100% happy at the moment.

  6. I had a load 1lb+ roach this evening while tenching and yesterday while tenching had a few 2lb perch witch i ended up fishing for insted.Great two days fishing indeed.Only ended up with 3 Tench out of two days no biguns bigest 5lb smallest 2lb.

  7. My P.b (10.8)fell to double corn over a very large bed of vitlin early morning,i have best luck using a longer hair than wat i do when using a standered carp hair.

  8. Hi guys,

Hope SOMEBODY out there can help with this one! It's a bit of a long shot, but the forum members on here are usually a good source of information!

We are going on a two week narrowboat holiday in May, setting off to try and attempt to do the South Pennine Ring. We're starting from Sowerby Bridge, then heading off down the Huddersfield Broad, Huddersfield Narrow, Ashton, Rochdale Canals etc. If the current stoppage on the Rochdale isn't fixed, then we'll do the Outer Pennine Ring instead, missing the Rochdale and taking in the Bridgewater and on up the Wigan flight to the Leeds Liverpool, Aire and Calder, Calder and Hebble and back to Sowerby Bridge.

My question is, is there any way I can find out before we go who owns the fishing rights to various stretches? Whichever route we take, we are going to be on a very tight schedule, with no time to moor up during the day to find a convenient tackle shop to ask advice and buy day tickets. We'll be cruising from early morning until early evening, so there's just no chance! I thought British Waterways would have the information, but they haven't been particularly helpful so far. If we knew exactly where we'd be moored each night it would be easier, but other than having a rough idea of which canal we'll be on, we really don't know where we're going to be, as our route won't be fixed until we know if this stoppage is cleared or not.

I want to be able to fish for a while each evening once we've moored up. My other crew member can safely be left in charge of cooking! (he knows his place!)

Can any of you lot help? I really don't want to run foul of any club bailiffs. I know I can probably get away with it, as we're likely to be moored out in the country, and unlikely to be caught, but that's not the way I like to do things. Even if you can just tell me your club, and which stretches they own, and a contact phone number, that would be a great help.

    Cheers lads,

    Janet

As far as i know you can fish on a Canal/River from a boat with out having a fishing permit as long as you have a rod licence. I may be wrong though.

  9. I wouldn't think it was fair to say that at all! I may hardly ever use it but I do own one and wouldn't hesitate to use it if I felt so inclined (rules permitting).

Yeah i own one also and use it about 2 a year if that on commercial fisheries ,just out of curiosity to see if i could still keep up with match weights.(ex match angler)

  10. I use maxima for every line of fishing i do up to 5lb then the line quality just doesn't seem to be the same until you get to 12lb then it's top notch again,so for 8lb/10lb line i use GR60 or fox soft steel camo.

Back to original question yes i do personally believe Maxima is the best line on the market for light wagler fishing, just my opinion though ,and I've used it for over the last 15years,

  11. Ill be using 4lb Mono main line (sounds abit heavy but there is a lot of big tench/carp in the water ),with a very sensitive float showing just a small bit of tip out of the water with ither small cubes of Luncheon meat or small grains of corn on the 14 hook, and using red maggots as lose feed probably put two balls a groundbait in at the start of the session as well. There is probably better ways of catching them but this is Wat I've had good results with.

  12. The closed season is a complete waste of time. Mainly designed to keep me off the water at probably the best time of year! :nono:

Since it has been abolished on stillwaters (except any stillwaters owned by any club I've ever belonged to) and canals I really doubt it has had any adverse effect on the fish. It might even have helped as they still get fed pounds of maggots and groundbait when people are actually fishing!

The river closed season is only in place for a few wooden rodded Chris Yates accolites to keep the "magic" of the 16th alive like when they were kids. Grow up. Hardly anyone fishes the rivers anyway!

Tim Kelly ,i can't speak for everyoneso every year for the last severn years or so i've seen a massive incline in anglers every year so much so i refuse to fish certain stretches of river,so from my point of view on your comment is void!

As for the old closed season being no point/having a point. I am sick of discussing it personally i think waters esp rivers deserve a break ,not going into detail why, as am sick and tired of the same debate

  13. One of my rods is 1.75 also got a 1.5 they are excellent for specimen fishing esp on the rivers.Only time i don't use them really is when am using PVA bags or fishing hard to features and it's a hit and hold case ware there are fish above 20lb present..Probably my most used rods.
