  1. hi davidp, i have never used a sack before ethier. but i do have one in addition to the 3 i got the other day.i also carry it with me every time i fish.you never know if you will catch a very large carp and with the luck i have there would not be a soul around to take a picture or it would be so dark you couldn't take a very good picture of it. and if i caught a 30-40 lb fish i would sack him till some one comes around or there is beter light.i pesonaly feel that if a carp is placed in a large enough sack there is no harm done to them. as long as you are carefull with their fins and eyes they should be ok. thanks all
  2. sorry. i forgot that the brits spell it COLOUR and americans spell it COLOR.
  3. hi all, i just picked up 3 big sacks.they are not exactly carp sacks.but they are very good sized, fully breathable, and will alow very good water flow through them.the only propblem with them is that the color is a red-orange.would this be a problem for carp.i mean will this color being so bright hurt their eyes or scare them.i figured that it would not be a very big deal because the water is dark colored.please, someone tell me if it would be alright to use these. thank you.
  4. hi all, davidp, the zebra mussle is a small mussle that only gets to be about 2in across at the most. i could be a little off but not by very much. these things are everyware.they have invaded the great lakes from another country,by ships, and have now been introduced into inland lakes by careless boaters.these things filter the water and make it very very clear.and the weeds begin to take the place over. these things are so thick in these lakes that i have been fishing with sweet corn and have brought the line in and the things covered the hook as well as the hair. getting some of these zebra mussles for bait is not hard. some guy was fishing next too me and had snagged an old plastic cup off the bottom and you would not belive the amount of mussles it had on it.i beleve it is illegal to posess these mussles but i don't think i would get in to much trouble useing them for bait in a lake that is known to be full of them for years now.the game wardens around hear are rarely seen anyway and when they are they are in shock to someone even fishing for carp.i have gotten away with things that others would not have,by saying i am just fishing for the carp.i get away with pre baiting lakes that alow no chumming all the time, useing that line.if people new that carp do eat zebra mussles maybe peoples views on carp would change here.any way iam going to try them out. thanks agin for the info guys.
  5. hey guys, thanks for all the info.i am going to try to pop the maize all the way off the bottom. i was putting just enough yellow foam on to lift the maize but not the hook.i was fishing that morning from 6-11am and the carp were all over the place.maybe they are not to fond of the maize yet.like you said davidp they are creaures of habit and are still looking for their natural food.witch reminds me, there is a very large population of zebra mussles in this lake.do you guys think that they could be eating these. do you think they would make a good bait.or a simmilar type bait.i am going to start fishing much longer sessions at this lake once it gets alot cooler.the water hear is still very warm. even with the sudden drops in temps over the last few weeks.once the water tem drops the boats will leave and the fish will bite better.i hope. anyways, thanks for the info and advice
  6. hi all,i got some questions about lake bottoms.i have started fishing a lake that has some large carp in it.i have been baiting an area in it for a bout a week or so and finaly fished it for the first time to day.i had no takes on any thing. i tried every thing that i had been baiting with over the last week.still not even a twitch.i was now wondering if any of the bait i put in over the week was even by the carp.i seen the carp all over the place.they had to have ate something.everything was prepared right.so started thinking, the bottom of the lake is very nasty.all kinds of leaves and silt and dead weeds.although i don't get snagged on them i thought mabe that my bait and rig was sinking down in the stuff and could be covered and the fish may not be able to find it. dose anyone ever have these problems. is there any tricks to fishing over this stuff that anyone could share.i like this spot and the lake has had some very large carp come from it.most of them by mistake.i would like to change this.and this junk on the bottom is causing problems.i will be very greatfull for any advice on the subject thank you
  7. hi,great info guys. newt, i have made some backleads out of some bell sinkers in paperclips.an idea i learned from a CAG member.i just haven't used them yet. i also have some of those bell sinkers with that small black clip on the top so can clip on/off after a swivle or split shot.they slid down the line very easy.i will try them to. thanks
  8. hi all, i haven't used backleads yet.i haven't needed them any ware i fish.but i am going to be fishing a lake that has alot of boat traffic near the bank and was wondering if they would be a good thing to use to provent being picked up on every prop that comes by.i would have to use them pretty steep under the tips because the spot i will be fishing is on a wall that is about 3ft down to the water.do you guys think that this would be good idea or should i reel in every time a boat passes.the only time that the boats are real thick is on the weekends.but in the week it is no ware near as bad.so maybe i should just stick to week days if i can't solve the problem.
  9. hi all, dose anyone no how to tell the sex of carp. i have always wanted to know how.but its kind of hard, seeing how there is not a visible difference that i have seen.i heard it was something to do with the girth of the fish. or that the females are larger or rounder. can anyone tell me how or do you have to disect them to find out like some other fish.please tell me if you know how. thank you
  10. thanks for all the opinions guys.i didn't think the carp would care about what water the maize was soaked and boiled in.mabey it could make a difference on a hard water but the waters here in the US are pretty easy and the chemicals in tap water would be like spring water compared to our polluted water. thanks again.
  11. you have a very good point davidp.
  12. hi, i heard that it is better to let maize soak and be boiled in lake or rain water instead of tap water.the reason they said this was that chemicals in the tap water will turn carp off from eating it.is this true and a better idea to do.thanks
  13. hi,has anyone used maize in a pva bag.i read about people doing this .i tryed it with some maize i had all ready prepared.i tryed to kind of dry it off so the bag would not melt . but it did. i didn't try this while fishing but in the kitchen.if anyone dose this can they please give some advice on how to do it correctly.i am very interested in trying it. thank you
  14. hello all, nathan, night fishing can be the best time to fish.about 95% of my fishing at this time of the year is done at night.i don't have any of that special camp gear or lights either.i like to fish with as little light as i can.some spots that i fish here in the USA have big parking lots right up to the bank and thier big street lights light the whole bank up.butt when i am fishing very still nights away from lights i use candles. a few wide based candles light up the place. i can't say too much about tents because most places here are run by state parks and most make you leave at 11 pm or at sun down.any place that has great carp fishing always has the dumbest laws.well i hope this was a little help to you any way.
