  1. Thanks for that guys, however it came to my mind that maybe Mirrors can consequently grow to a larger size as there is a little more room for their body to expand. The lack of scales may not be restricting growth as much?! Its just a thought I'm probably completely wrong!

  2. Hi Everyone! Could someone give me a lesson on how Mirror Carp became like what they are. It was ages ago since I read about the reason behind their scales (if they have any) are like what they are. I think it was something to do with the Japanese wanting to remove the scales more efficiently. Then bred the Common species with larger, irregular scales that could be taken off easily so they could eat the Carp without them. I think that is it but I need either a comfirmation or the real story if you know it. Any help would be appreciated a lot!

  3. Oh my God! Ok well I just found out that it is was £'2'.50 not £4.50 plus I just realised that I werent using Rapture hooks in the first place! It was End Game hooks!! OK sorry I just got a bit mixed up with some other rigs I must have seen. Right I'm gonna have a good look at all the rigs you can get now and hooks!! I might as well buy his rigs for now then if they are that much or even stick to my own with smaller hooks or rigs with Raptures! Well, I now have a nice choice to try out! :)

  4. How big do the Koi go in the lake you fish in? However big they are, They fight fight twice as hard. I havent faught one myself but I've seen people who have and really make that rod bend! I think they have Koi at 20-25lb at my fishery. There are some lovely orange and black ones and also some Pure white ones with black and red patterns on them.

  5. Yep thats what he said - £4.50!? I thought that too tho - He must have thought I was asking bout something else. Either way I think I will start making my own rigs. I have the snakebite anyway from before when I practiced rigs so all I have to do now is make them :) Oh yeh and buy some bombs (or make them)

  6. Thanks. I guess large hooks are only for fish above the weights in this particular lake then. I suppose if they were bigger then I would have to use a size 4 because other wise it would bend! Also, I realise that it isnt the shape of the hook its just the size. I figuered out that the Rapture shape is a good idea after all after reading some reviews! :) Thanks again for your help!

  7. I fish at a lake with the same problem. Catching the odd Roach and Bream has been good fun and also big Carp too until my last 4-5 visits. I didnt realise myself until earlier this week when the owners told me that it was algae that was causing the problem. However this was because of the amount of groundbait and excess particles that were being thrown into the lake. The algae was feeding off this and using up the oxygen in the water resulting in fish on the surface gasping for air. At first I thought it was because it was a hot day but a few fish have been found dead in the lake. There are 4 lakes and the ones that are mostly fish and with the biggest fish also had the lowest oxygen levels. At the moment there are sprinklers all over the lakes and air pumps in the main lake. A green mist has been building in certain areas of the lake which happens to be where the best swims were. Hope that helps!

  8. I too have the same problem! There are all sorts of Koi and Ghosts etc in the fishery I go to regularly. I can get the Ghosts but the Koi! There are also I few Golden Orfe and Goldfish of 2-3lb in there and I cant get any of them either. Have these ornamental breeds of fish become more intelligent as well as being more attractive?? I think their genes got affected at the same time or something and their knowledge widened!? :):)

  9. I see your point about the batteries and the water - Didnt think of that! However I dont drop them at all (I'm not that clumsy) and Have spare batteries anyway. Plus If I do I have some spare annalogue scales in my tackle box!

  10. Hi, the hooks were coming out of their mouth. I wasnt putting any slack or letting out too much line because, there are many trees that have branches over hanging the banks and in the water which the fish would swim into. I doesnt happen when I strike but during the fight. I might try using smaller hooks. I can however make my own rigs but I like to be sure the rig is correct and the knots are decent enough. I think I'm going to have to look for rigs with more direct ends that get into the mouth better and maybe smaller boilies because it might be taking up the room.

  11. Just a thought: How comes some people seem to buy annalogue scales which are near enough the same price as digital scales? I was just wondering when talking to some anglers at my local fishery and they have annalogue scales the same price as my digital pair. Certainly digital scales are much easier to read and you can see clearly what the weight is straight away? Am I missing something here? Are digital not accurate? Whats the catch with digital then??

  12. Yesterday I went for a 26 hour fishing session with my friend. In the end I had 8 Carp of around 7lb but I lost 9 fish! The hook Came out every time! I used a size 4 barbless Nash Hair Rig with a 'Rapture' Hook. I dont think these are working very well as my friend (even though he only got 3 Carp and a Sturgeon) didnt loose 1 fish! Should I use a smaller hook like a 6 with a more direct straight tip? If so, can you recommend me any hair rigs that have these (a stiff rig would be great if you can). My friend uses a SnakeBite Stiff Hair wioth a size 6 but said his were around £4.50 each. I dont mind pying that much but while I can (plus I'm on a budget) I would like to buy something cheaper because I'm saving every penny I've got to get the bivvy I ave been longing to get :)

  13. I bivvy I can recommend is The Shakespere Cypry Dome. A 1-man bivvy is roughly £50-60 and a 2-man bivvy is around £75-90. It is the cheapest but best quality bivvy I know of and I'm getting the two-man one next week! :) About the Rod-Pods I'm not too sure I just use my Dad's Pod - I havent really looked up the best bargains for Rod-Pods yet sorry!

  14. Elton, you mentioned the Thailand Carp which I guess you got on the same Carp site I'm thinking of. Its well over 200lb if you dont already know but want considered a record. The world record is 82lb 3oz. Does anyone know why this 200lb Monster Carp wasnt considered a record?? Is it a different breed of Carp then? Any help would be great!

  15. If there are a fair few of Tench I would fish 2 sweetcorn on a float rod. If they are relatively small then I wouldnt bother with them and go for roach instead. Tench when they are small can be very difficult to catch because they seem to not come out in open water too much and just hide in the dense areas in weeds. Roach are a lot of fun because they swim in large shoals and will have anything. Just take maggots and maybe bread or some sweetcorn if they are slightly larger. Fish on the bottom for them and I'm sure you'll catch a fair number of fish through out the day. Hope that helps. I have only fished on rivers a few times but the roach and from what I've seen tench are good fun.

  16. If you are new to Carpin then I suggest buying (or subscribing to) Total Carp magazine. It is the best Carp magazine I have ever read with lots of information and updates with recomendations for rigs and gear etc. Hope that helps - it did with me and after a few years of fishing for them it has helped me brilliantly and has given me loads of fun!

  17. WOW! Broken AGAIN!!? Well Done Lee! I wonder how many times that Two-Tone has been caught in its whole lifetime. I mean it is being caught a fair number of times near enough the 60 mark and surely its clever enough to outwit anglers now? - I guess that Lee is something special then! :)

Congrats Lee - you've caught a Carp 10x the size of my PB! :P

  18. Thanks for that it all makes sense now accept for one thing - How comes the Golden Orfe is able to be in the UK Course Fish Record Lists and not the original version the Ide? If that was the case then shouldnt there be Koi among the lists (not that I think they should)?
