  1. My best memory would be when I caught my first ever double figure Carp of 13lb 3oz. Another great memory was a few months before that It was in the same swim had 17 fish in a 24 hours session. In fact I had only started Carp fishing this year so everything was all new to me and has got me hooked for life
  2. There was an hour long program called A Passion For Angling on Discovery Home & Leisure last Friday at 11.00pm on Redmire. It was with Chris Yates and was catching carp at 24lb. He was using all different techniques and even climbed up a tree with his rod to get one! You could see Carp all over the place in groups and on there own and really large sizes! Was a great program and I wish I can see it again because I didnt get it taped!!
  3. How about Minnow or Silver Bream?
  4. I would really like to catch a Pike, Sturgeon and a Catfish! Others I havent caught are: Chub, Dace, Grayling, Zander, Grass Carp
  5. Surely you feel that way too? [ 23. October 2002, 08:52 PM: Message edited by: Jamie Thornton ]
  6. Leon, that was just a bonus to fishing. I didnt say becasue I like to catch fish etc becasue its obvious. To that I would add that fishing just gets my heart going and gives me a great deal of fun when I'm out there. The learning is never ending so when I do get a fish with them techniques its very pleasing.
  7. Wow thanks for the encouragement guys! I will never stop after this! Like some of you have said my next target is 20lb so when I do reach that expect a thread called: 'YES! My first twenty!' The feeling is great. The pictures were at the beginning of the film so they wont be up for a while. Thanks again for the positive outputs!!
  8. Sorry I didnt mean season I meant year! I've been fishing since the very first few weeks of this year and with continuous 6-8lb Carp it is a nice bonus! Dont worry I will be out there again this year! Next trip is Thursday I think! It was a long common however it did have a slight belly on it! It was in good shape and condition too which was pleasing.
  9. I love fishing because of the tranquility while sitting by a lake offers. I have much respect for nature and the environment and nothing else clears my head and makes me feel more relaxed than a picturesque surrounding. Meeting people and learning something new everytime is a great experiance. Even if I blank I am happy becasue at least I have releived some stress form college etc Fishinf is the best sport there is no doubt about it. I just wish other people could understand that instead them thinking fishing is just about catching fish anf that it is 'boring'! Well it is if you arent prepared to learn before you start to fish with some knowledge. Ah well! I'l just leave them too it
  10. Im really pleased today because I have just caught my first ever double figure carp, topping the scales to 13lb 3oz. It was caught at 10.55pm last nite (21/10/02) and fell to an Assassin-8 boilie (dipped in N-R-G dip)in a tight corner of a small lake near some reeds! It may be small to some anglers but I'm very proud of it- rounds off the end of the season for me Pictures will be posted soon hopefully! Just thought I'd let u know - also u might remember me posting a topic about peoples first doubles and what it was like and now I know [ 22. 11. I was talking to some angler one day when i was fishing with my friend and he seems to do the ame as everyone ealse and feed slightly less in winter. He uses powerful dips though on his hookbait. So the other day when I went fishing I only through out a few freebies where my boilie hookbaits were and seemed got 3 Carp to 8lb! Maybe that is the right way to do it. Worked for me and in Winter I have to tendancy to blank all the time! :S
  12. Looks funny, but I cant read it!!!
  13. I think I know where you go - the first picture looks very familiar to where I used to fish in my area Dont worry I wont tell anyone - however, I might be wrong though!? Either way - what great fish and decent photos shots. You must be well proud!
  14. Gaffer, 29lb 15oz!! How close was that to 30! At the time you was probably really exited but now I bet you feel just slightly annoyed it werent 30 - I mean it has been 5 years now. But I guess thats the beauty of fishing. I hope you get that 30 one day mate!
  15. Thats a very nice fish! If I caught that when I first started I would definately be addicted! I am and I have only caught them up to 7lbs!! But I just love fishing in general. Anyway, that Carp must have been a shock at the time. A river Carp was it? How long did it take you to get it in the net??
  16. Ghost Catfish, Golden Gudgeon! WOW Thats great! Can somebody give me a link or send me a picture? I've seen Golden Catfish, aswell as Golden (aka Albino) Sturgeon at my local aquarium.
  17. My Favourite Boilie is Mainline's Frozen Assassin8 Boilies - the 18mm ones (or 20 - I cant remember the size) I use them on a size 8 hook with the boilie just touching the end of the hook bend. Mainline are definately my favourite Boilie brand with Nash closely following.
  18. Wow! Thanks for the replys you guys! I guess after understanding the reason behind only having Golden Orfe covering all three 'colourings' I can see why - because of the fact they are most popular in with that name and across the UK. In my opinion, just like the Carp, I think it should be Ide and nothing else. It it the original form and other forms would be covered from that just like the Tench for example. The golden tench isnt on the list so How comes an ornamental version has to be the primary name for the species?
  19. I know that - But what if the Golden Orfe Weight was broken by A blue Orfe or an Ide? - Will they still list the weight under Golden Orfe??
  20. I'm really confused about this particular species. On British Record Lists the Golden Orfe is the only type of this species with a record weight. Now if a blue Orfe for example was caught and was larger in weight than the Golden breed, will it be changed to Blue Orfe or would it be on the list like the Golden? Would this happen with the Ide aswell? Why is it that Golden is the only breed on these list and not the original Ide? This is probly been covered or I'm just thick at this but some help would be grateful. Thanks!
  21. Thanks Guys - Hopefully I'll get my first double figure at a place I am fishing on Wednesday with my Dad and Uncles. They're taking the dayoff work for this and I'm taking the day off college just to be at this lake you have to book in advance. There are big Cats in there too! The Carp go well over 20lb so Hopefully I will get something over 10 at least! The lakes that I ave fished at only have Carp to about 12-14lb so it has been hard for me to get one reaching 10 but now my day ticket water I am goin to holds them to 30 although there is some problems there so I cant fish there yet. For now though its the trip so I will let you guys know! Thanks again you lot!
  22. Does anyone remember catching their first Double Figure Carp? I havent actually caught one yet but what was it like seeing the scales top over the 10 mark? What did you catch it on and when did you catch it?
  23. In the Anglers Mail the other week a 17 year old caught a 5lb 1oz Crucian. It is still being investigated at the moment but if it is a true crucian then it will be a record. [ 11. September 2002, 05:05 PM: Message edited by: Jamie Thornton ]
  24. Just a thought: How do you all weigh your fish? Do you have someone hold the scales and then you put the fish inside the sling while it is on zero so the nets weight is taken off? or do you weigh the sling after wards so the water from both the net and sling is taken off then minus it from the fish's weight beforehand? Because I find it hard putting the fish inside the sling when it is hardly open when my freind is holding it. What do you think is best?
