  1. when i go to pendle veiw,i allways use a zig rig,and if possible get near the wall,i use the dynamite the green ones i dont now if they make them anymore,i think they are called zest, because i bought about six tubs and put in a bag and mixed them with the liquid.and i get at least one or more a trip

  2. ive been using this shop, were i get on with the bit s and bobs,a small few items were bought, new spool ,line and a few words asking were the chub and dace remain in largenumbers.so i saked him what will take for 10pts,£33.20p,you will pay what his on the items and any multiples, his it just me but we allways do a deal over a gallon, later i found out,but he allways been like this ,he would give you a deal......the small tackle shops are sruggling ,but you can buy maggots on ebay.one thing wiih maggots the have ]allways kept the same.small tackle shops are not to sell majorpeices of tackle like rods reels.but i go with a rod and feel it on the blank, this you cant do on a email brocher, and young and up and coming anglers need to hang around listening, alan sherwood was tha man, growing up on the though shcool of the northern canel club waters.my question is were are these future world champion, its all carp or barbel.i took my son out on the stick,he told me after i had played with sotting patern throughout the day,no i think its not about carp fishing,a quolity to be able to reed the water even lakes, this is why i buy books, and dvd only on toni miles,if i died and only had quarter of his knoledge

  4. the petition is about ,if you did not watch any of is programmes on the subject, its about throwing away dead fish back into the sea ,instead of landing it.which fish discarding on you tube, and sign up,we have add a promice from europe that it will be banned,it is involved in nets ,wider mesh and leaving places no fishing zones ,which after a year i n this programme i was watching was amazing just a year made a huge differance. not what they where meant ,for are the offshore windfarms, because fishing boats are not allowed in these areas

  5. we have all seen the discard of perfectly good quolity fish to cod, turbot, even if its still alive, its swim bladder has extended and you might as well as knocked it on the head and kill it,most of you know this so just sign up

  6. always a little "what if" when im sticking a thumb in.

are they actually strong enough in say a 10lb carp to do some damage ?

if a carp can eat a air dried boilie ,just think what it can do to your fingers or thumb, alot of people think theve been snapped at the hooklenght but it could have easily been a fish taken the bait back in the throat and bitten off,i have a pair off a 18 pounder ,there nasty ,makes me cringe thinking about it

  7. I was wondering about putting bait away from where I was fishing but then I thought it might just end up attracting even more in to the general area. If fishing a lake then dumping some bait out of your area would kind of work but on a river you might just end up bringing more in to the general area from up or down stream.

I often like to put down a bed of bait for a lot of my fishing and have to admit I am a little stumped about how to go about fishing this spot with that sort of tactic. As a big bed of bait would just attract crays from all over. Maybe keep free offerings to a minimum or build the swim up slowly.

like i said thank god up north its not a problem[touch wood] but years ago when eels were a problem ,we use to find a road kill wrap it up in a cotton shirt not wool it catches in there teeth, peg it down tie the arms and the rest just leave the gaps between buttons and they will get in,even tearing through the shirt, place one dowstream and one up.come the morning they were full ,they would stay there even full because it was dark, thats how my pike baits were sorted ,and also made a few quid selling some for bait and the ,table.i no longer do this because eels arnt as much of a problem ,but on other rivers that have been ,i now just release them after the session.also sardines, mackrel or scraps from the fishmongers, its just making something you can emty every so often, try pegging a keepnet,or if you dont want them just peg something smelly up and down stream of you,tie string round the tails ,and then a rock and throw them out, make sure them upstream are tied well,so you dont have a loose sardine in your swim.best of luck dales

  8. just talking about things put into mixes .i boil some hemp leave to dry completely ,then blitz it into a powder that looks creamy white and gives off a lovely white cloud

  9. As a prelude to some autumn/winter river fishing plans for the Lee, I spent part of Saturday walking about my chosen venue and returned Sunday for dabble to get to know the water a little. Great fun catching plenty of small stuff Perch, Roach, Gudgeon, Ruff, Bleak and Chublets and managed a decent Bream of

7-06lb not bad when you consider how hot and bright it was yesterday.

My main reason for giving the Lee some attention is to fish it for Pike, Zander, Perch and have a bash at some of it's Chub in the colder months. During the colder months I am hoping that the Crayfish will not be so much of an issue. I am not used to fishing crayfish invested waters, well I have done some winter Piking before on waters with them. But they have not been to much of an issue.

So before I start my winter fishing, I thought I might do some late evenings/maybe over nighters for a chance of Carp/Barbal/Bream and hopefully 8lb Chub :D But the Crays were so active yesterday on a bright day, what would they be like in the cover of darkness. So a bit of an old question, what would be good baits to use for the above species in Crayfish rivers. I am sure this would have come up before but not fishing such waters, I doubt I paid to much attention.

I fished a boilie on one rod and it got slowly wittled down but over 1 to 2 hours, so this may be the way to go. It was mentioned in an article on Lea Chub posted up recently by Anderoo but has any one else got any tips on over coming the Crays.

I am right they will be a right nightmare at night?

i could;nt come to understand the frustration, that anglers in your situation go through, but a mate who fishes a pit thats full of them ,he fishes 2 rods one in the marjins, were he uses the the left over chicken from the sunday dinner, put about five yds away from his bait, the chicken is put in a large drop net and after a few hours pull it in ,empty then backin.the other rig is a zig rig ,with a feeder and a active mix with a hand full of blitzed floater pellets, the odd pop blitzed again, its a top methed for fishing up in the water, which ive used.plus the crayfish he gets he sells to a local italian biestro, which pays for his baits for the year.at least some one gets something from them

  11. as there been any ducks, swans any wildlife been injured because 2 old women are making life hell for anglers on a strech near me,and thats were most of these problems start.were there is a sign near, me saying no fishing while bank and towpath work is ongoing, but they are bw signs, not council, so near me bw own the water and bank, and probably the same were you are

  12. I could do with a pair of your polaroids emaze, they sound far better than mine :)

how far away are you from these pellet particles, because at 5.5mt i struggled to see the pellet, any closer ,with walking down the bank following it ,in gin clear water ,im supprised the chub stayed

  13. Is the attraction of washed out bolies, if indeed they have one just down to the fact they are likely to be soft?

Do Carp prefer to eat soft baits at times? Just questioning the idea of washed out baits appearing safe as they may be in the water for a while due to loosing some colour and flavour etc. Just a thought is it simply because they soften up a lot while soaking that they appeal to Carp. Can they digest a soft bait more easy then a hard one or do they just have a preference for soft baits. There are many times when soft pellets will out fish a hard one.

Do you think a Carp not that bothered about feeding may just be tempted to pick up a soft bait because one slurp to the back of the mouth and its mashed up and swallowed, but if using a bullet hard boilie it would involve some crushing and frankly they just can't be asked with all the effort today. So would a "washed out boilie" (soft bait) help you pick up an extra bite from fish that are not really on the feed?

If true, its only a theory :D and only based on a little bit of experience of in general thinking soft boilies are a better option. It would raise a few points.

1, Rather then spend time washing out your boilies could you not just fish with a soft freezer bait or soft shelf life bait and save your self the effort?

2, Why air dry your freezer baits to bullets, when maybe they are better soft (Ignoring they keep better on a session)

3, Why not feed soft boilies, but fish a bullet. Get them eating the nice soft baits and by the time they realise your hook bait is a naff hard one they are already hooked.

It's harder to get a softer bait then paste and even when super flavoured and brightly coloured it does not put many fish off.

that is why i make some paste from the base mix or order that paste from the boile order,so i can make a soft or hard boilies or just cover it .i allways take paste

  14. i used to match fish all over the country, and allways used pre_tied,of a freind who also did them for other anglers,at what any dia and hoohsize and lenght you needed he also did flies for me,but having stopped due to a eye op.when in a match you want the same hoolength, its just take fom a fresh one and away we go .buy them at first while learning to make your own,and try to keep them the same lenth, and kept in order on match day,any lull in fishing change it.i even tye my hooks on,this way with eyed hooks on bigger than match.

  15. Bent hooks for carp fishing were popular in the 80's and early 90's. They were longshanked fly hooks that were bent with pliars to form an aggressive hooking arrangment, similar to the hooks posted above. They worked simply by causing the hook to flip over quickly when sucked in or as the fish bolts. Very similar to how a line aligner/magaligner works with shrink tubing......however...

The bent hooks caused alot of problems, the main one being mouth damage. Due to the nature of these hooks, they often slipped/pulled out under pressure, and re-hooked on the way out, causing horrible damage to the carps mouth. The line aligner/magaligner method, does not do this as the shrink tubing pulls straight when under pressure, thus effectively removing the "bent bit". Bent hooks themselve are now banned as far as i know, there are hook patterns avaliable on the market that will do a similar job but its up to the angler to decide if he or she should use them.

    hope this helps

a jacko jackson caught two tone on a kammason fly hook. a buzzer and shrimp hooks are bent from eye to point and are an exelant hook, barbed or barbless
  16. Cheers fistech, just looked at the Ribchester & District site, looks like its 'dead mens' shoes to get a meembership. You are right about the Wye the scenery is outstanding and the fishing too, when you get it right[ height & a drop of colour] Was down there last week, few miles down stream of Ross on Wye, managed just the one at 6lbs on the pellett. Still early in the season, Sept. Oct usually best. Any way tight lines.Steve

thanks ,just keeping another angler imformed,if you join the warrington a/a you can get access to the severn and wye for under 50 quid, plus lots of others, and the pressure that the barbel are under ,fishing i mean,so yours is the next place, hirst green part of w.a.a and there are allready there, and have perfect venues to spawn,if you join get your waders on and find every thing there is to no about it,also the odd salmon and plenty of seatrout on the float, tight lines andy

  17. A local water has a rule saying 'no bent hooks'.

As I have yet to see a straight hook other than a pin what does it mean?

im totoly against dangerouse rigs and hooks,it all started with the long bent shank gardner hooks ,i dont no if there is a bent hook.and to ban it on this venue, there must be a reason.but take steve renyards withy pool rig, were the hook as not been touched.a mate of the family was part owner of a match and mid doubles to mid 30 s,and if he found a fish with a hook still in its mouth, and these guys have a good idea how long its there, the bits and bobs if any, was on is, very rairley was still there .this is when he stopped certain rigs or hooks ,barbed or not the carp could get rid of them, but one thing i picked up on that tench find it hard to get shut of small hooks

  18. did a weekend last weekend only caught 2 in 48hour monster squid(nash) and a dynamite red robin.

1st one i caught when i got there no washing of the boilie 10lb carp, second one was just before i left i washed out the boilie's for 8 hours. obviously i used my bucket with the lake water. my friends laughed at me whilst i washed out the boilies and reckoned i knew jack sh*t about fishing.. so i ask what are views on washed out baits.. do you think they work?

to me it works, but this is just my opinion.

it depends on the venue,i fished a lake for a number of years and made my own boilies with no flavour ,just the smell of the base mix ,which was boilix from nuitrabaits, its a meat meal mix instead of the most common fishmeal, that could of made the differance,if i visit a venue for the first time ,you can be pritty sure the majority of boilies going in are fishmeal based.so that is why i allways go with a meat meal base boilie ,you dont have to make your own quest do a good one,but buying them ,you no there are flavours and other enhancers in,the flavours are there to catch the angler more than the fish, a carp can easily find a washed out boilie ,and over time feel safe eating them, but just try either a birdfood mix or meat meal mix, like you did dont copy everyone else even if they may take the micky.if your fishing two or three rods ,fish, two or three differant baits and styles ,it wont take long before a patern is found

  19. Hi, just joined the site. I am going to be staying near Clitheroe, Lancs. in couple of weeks time. I am looking to find some day ticket stretches on the Ribble and I hope to target Chub & Barbel. I am used to fishing the Severn, Teme and Wye. Any info, regargarding possible stretches, bait and tatics would be much appreciated. CHEERS STEVE.

check out the season ticket of certain clubs theres prince albert which im a member but you are looking at upto 2 years waiying list ,the same with ribchester, but thers warrington and wigan, were you can get a membership for around 50 quid or less which opens up alot more of the river, only problem with many clubs is parking, but its worth the hyke.hope you can get sorted out ,because its one of the best rivers about, for fishing and senery, bar the wye

you can buy day tickets at the spar in ribchester but you only have a small sectoin to fish, and i think you have to buy the ticket prior to fishing[this might not carry on anymore ,but check]also you can fish the salmsbury section ,buying tickets from the 24 hour garage at the tickle trout hotel,at the m6 junction, were you stand a good chance of a double, make sure you use enough weight to keep your lead from moving and you wont suffer many snags.it cost £5 to fish and you have a larger area to fish, thers also the section called church deeps were im not sure what the ticket situation is anymore, onthat sectoin between melling wood ,about half mile down stream from the tickle trout and church deeps you have bream carp and a good chance of a double barbel and a 6id chub, theres no magic baits but till you no the strech keep your lead fixed to the deck and they will find it,another bit of advice is learn a section they, fish differant in high water, than low,the dace on the stick is picking up,nothing what it used to be.one more thing its all game fishing clubs from below clithroe and above, barbel are there but you wont get a ticket.bait wise keep to the same bait on that sectoin when finished throw a few handfulls in and they will be on it,a good boilie or a couple of eightmm pellets with a heavy feeder filled with damp pellets and hemp.dont go under gunned on set up,or you will wonder whats it you.not much doing during day when running clear ,better just turning dusk and into night
