  1. First off a massive thanks to everyone for your hints and tips, it is highly appreciated! As for my experience, I am a noob, started fishing last April, I mainly fish the local canal and have on a few occasions fished a commercial lake. I know the basics to carp fishing but carp fishing isn't my thing, I much prefer to catch a big pike than a carp but as my bro loves his carp fishing I thought I would try and get some advice to help me when I go with him so he can enjoy his fishing without having to teach me everything. After all its he that got me fishing and he has taught ne almost everything I know, so I figured a break would be nice for him lol. As for this lake, its in the middle of no where, hardly fished, and fish are hardly caught! To my knowledge 1 fish has been taken in the last week or 2 (according to the owner) and its been fished by 5 people in that time, all staying for atleast 12 hours! I have had a look and there seems to be a channel the bigger fish are sticking to, swimming up and down it freely but there not feeding. They are about 1 rod length out and they don't seem to be spooked to easily! Then at the far corner there was 3 or 4 big carp just sat 1-2 feet down in the shallows, again not easily spooked by me waving my bro over or accidentally standing on twigs etc. I also found out that people ledgering aren't getting anything, this could be due to the bed of the lake being like a cobbled road and the feeders are getting snagged, when they reel in the feeder gets snagged, line snaps... I saw quite a few fish feed off the surface from some bread I threw in, this was around 6pm on a half decent day! Other than that they either do nothing, or swim in the channel. I am hoping to go tomorrow for a few hours in the late afternoon, I will be trying a couple of your hints out and so will my bro. Thanks to everyone for your help, much appreciated...you don't have to stop there, tips on making me a better angler will be very much appreciated. Thanks again Crazy aka Dan
  2. Just had a quick look at what capsicum is, only to find out nothing lol. It says its a plant fertilizer, pepper, mango, a plant...could you please tell me what it is and where I can get it? Cheers
  3. Ok cheers mate, I will look into this thanks
  4. Thanks for the help guys, I'm gunna go up on Thursday if I get chance n try a few hours. I might try pre baiting on Wednesday after work if nobody is on! In the time my bro and his mate have spent up there a few people have fished it and nobody got anything. 1 group said they have been going there for a few months for 24hr sessions and are yet to catch. They said they are running out of ideas now lol. Hopefully using these tips my luck will be different. Cheers gents, anymore ideas are more than welcome lol
  5. It is fished, just not to often, maybe a few times a month, nothing compared to the commercial lakes. I think it used to get fished quite often, either that or the place has just been stocked? In 72 hours of fishing it my bro and his mate had 1 bite between them, no nuisance fish or anything. I walked around it and saw some big car basking in the sun, but non feeding, later in the evening a few fed off the surface but that was it. They just dont seem to take anything on the hook...to be honest my bro tried fishing the surface with bread, he also threw some small pieces of bread on the top and nothing... he has mainly used the feeder with a couple of different types of groundbait (dont ask what cause I dont know lol) an he had nothing. They have tried luncheon meat, sweetcorn, maggotts, boilies, worms etc I think the bite came off the worm or bread...cant remember which.. Do the same rules apply here for the carp or is it totally different since they wont be used to seeing boilies?
  6. Be prepped easily enough, I have never used them!!!
  7. I think its deepest point is 18ft. Im going up to fish it in the next couple of weeks so if he doesnt get up before then I can try this and see if it helps, are tiger nuts dear to buy, can they be made easily enough? cheers
  8. Not sure on size, its not exactly big lol. No features just a few weeds around the edges. Theres supposedly over 1500 fish in there and I think around 100 carp ranging in different sizes, the biggest being around 20lbs... I have told him to try fishing more natural baits like slugs and snails etc but I dont know if he has done...
  9. Hey guys, My bro has just started fishing a reservoir that is hardly fished. He is used to fishing commercial lakes and catching some decent carp and bream, but he isnt catching on here. He has tried many different tactics but is struggling... does anybody know the best rigs and baits to use on a reservoir? Boilies etc dont work... thanks in advance
  10. Has anybody fished the canal near Rishton? I live just down the road and would like to be able to get on the canal somewhere around the area and fish (preferably somewhere an angling club doesnt own) If possible I would like to park up at MFI on Whitebirk industrial and get onto the canal from there...anybody any ideas? Also does anyone know how well it fishes here? I usually fish the canal between Cherrytree and Finnington but I have recently moved house so I would like to try somewhere closer to home Thanks in advance
  11. I think the polish may have taken them...fishing was great till we saw some fishing here, within a few weeks there wasn't any fish left lol
  12. Hey guys I fish the Leeds to Liverpool canal at feniscowles on a regular basis and although fishing was good last year, this year there doesn't seem to be to many fish here now. Anybody else noticed the lack of fish recently? I have been landing a few though, but the weather has been up and down recently aswel. So what I want to know is, how does the weather affect the fishing? What weather is the best to catch fish? What are the best methods in different conditions? And lastly, does the moon affect fishing on a canal, if so which moon phase is the best time? Cheers
  13. This was a decent size, abit bigger than a HTC Desire S. Sadly I never weighed it so I wouldnt have a clue how heavy it was. Anybody like to guess? lol
  14. Haha, anybody know the weight record for ruffe?
  15. Cheers for the info men I have never seen them before and when I have searched for info on coarse fish they have never come up. I have fished the canal loads of times and today was the 1st time I have ever got one! Are they a cross between other fish or something? They look like perch with the spots of trout or summat lol
