Thanks guys, As much as I'm not particularily a fan off bream, that's good news as is easily my pb! Shame I didn't have scales with me, didn't think I'd need em for a quick session down the canal. Doh!!

Hi all, just been down my local canal and after a good session on worms last week decided for more of the same. Caught this fish about an hour into the session 4"on the deck over chopped worm. Could anyone tell me if it is a bream or a carp? It didn't put up a massive fight like a carp but also wasn't really slimey like a bream. Either way am really chuffed, easily my biggest fish out of the canal. Cheers, Luke
  3. Hi, thanks and sorry, just did a copy and paste from the RDAA forum which is Reading, hence the referrals to 'here' and 'there' lol. Have had some tips for venues to go but any tips on tactics would be greatly appreciated. Had a little go last night just with maggots on a waggler and got loads of roach but nothing else, wasn't there for that long tho. I tried a heavier shot near the hook to sink through them quicker, but still only roach. Is it better to use a groundbait aswell as the maggots as these might be getting eaten near the top by the roach, rather than sinking to the bottom? I live Southport in the North west of England so any advice on good venues there would also be helpful. Cheers, Luke
  4. Have posted this on the RDAA site aswell, but some general advice on fishing and tactics would be much appreciated even if you don't know the area. Hi, Have been a RDAA member since last summer and spent most of my time fishing between here and up north, as I am in the forces. Have spent the last 6 months having some good sport on the rivers, spinning for pike, trotting a stick float But now that the close season has arrived I am unsure what to target and where are good lake venues. Still got the canal up north which is good, I Know Froxfield is still open but fancied something different. I'm not a massive fan of carp fishing would rather go for silvers, perch, tench, bream etc on the waggler as opposed to the quivertip. I understand a few carp will inevitibly take the bait, but a catch is a catch I suppose. Would be grateful for any pointers you could put my way: What Lakes are good for silvers/other species? What sort of rig should I use, I have spools of 3lb and 6lb on at the moment with various hook lengths? Best baits, have mainly just used maggot and worm? Best way to target the bigger fish? Plan to get out somewhere this weeknd Thanks, Luke
