  1. Not bad Dale , i was looking out for your report hoping for a big wriggler for you. It did seem a bit early for eels so i thought you might switch to the Cod hoovers but well done for sticking with your guts and not to bad for a April eel fish :)

If you have some piccies shove them on here although if there aren't any i wont believe you know ....;)

  2. Churchill was a wartime leader but in peace time was a pompous idiot. The east end hated him with a passion and just about all working classes. When the east end cranes dipped their heads at his funeral they had to pay triple wages to the men to do it as they refused to show any respect for him.

Thatcher was along the same lines a good wartime leader but an arrogant peace time one and at her funeral the working classes celebrated especially the miners families even a generation on from the 80's.

But going back to Gallipoli Churchill was really at fault and so making him PM away from any strategic battles was a good idea in ww2. If you want to pick a WW2 cock up in compararism to gallipoli it was Montgomery on his suicide mission 'Market Garden' and worse the best crack British paratroopers who were the SAS equivelent of their day all got cut down, the only reason Montgomery got the upper hand in the east was that Rommel was sick back in Berlin or the Alamein would have never of happened. Montgomery was the most over rated british general in history.

  3. Norma was very pleased with her bird sightings, which included early swifts and a hobby. According to the locals, the latter was the first seen this year at Wingham. All three common hirudines (sand martin, house martin and swallow) were scarce on Saturday but arrived in force over the lake on Sunday morning - presumably in response to a fly hatch.

A Cetti's warbler sat in a thick bush to my right and yelled into my hearing aid whenever it thought I was not paying attention - it was like a handful of gravel hitting a window.

Probably the bittern was in the dense reed-beds half a mile downstream of the lakes - the sound carries a very long way.

Had the usual sightings of the parakeets, but owls and cuckoos were heard and not seen. Norma did get a sight of a nightingale.

It was the most impressive thing i thought about Wingham when i was a member the different wildlife but more so with the birds. Hirudines really were there in flocks one moment and gone in the next. Sparrowhawks are getting very common nowadays and many are spotted up to the gates and like you said i have never seen so many Hobbies in one area and i used to breed them. Bitterns are quite popular in that area of the SE. I once saw a Merlin there which although i have flown have never seen in the wild. You would get more birds of prey if it was not for the fact that the rabbits are shot due to its geographical area including possibly Buzzards and just maybe as they are slowly on the increase Goshawks but that's mainly because novice falconers are losing them and they are adapting to the wild...

PS....I tried not to be anywhere near a Nightingale when i fished and if i did i just stayed up to night fish as whats the point

  4. It’s going to be interesting in Spain hearing about these Ferrari upgrades and what they bring. McLaren surely with all their resources have to come up with a better package Honda or no Honda, F1 is not expecting in the first season for them to be at the top but come on half way down the field at least! This brake by wire system is fine if it works but if it blows like it did for the Mercedes it can be lethal. It generates 3 times as much power than Kers did.

I wonder if Hamilton is hanging out his contract to see if Ferrari has the jump on Mercedes now if not what is he up too?

  5. Earth is just waiting for these very quick lunatic visitors to its history wipe each other out anyway and have a rest until some other weed grows on its skin.

If God made us all then he must have been having a very bad monday morning!

  6. It is quite amazing that Winston Churchills naval attack on the Dardanelles was a complete disaster which led to the slaughter on the beaches that he became PM in WW2 which is why at the time relatives of the Gallipoli dead wanted his head on a pike not in no 10.

  7. If anyone gets a peg down near the Fir tree and into the small bay on the left there are carp lurking around close in around the 20lb mark but you do need the right bait and placed on a sixpence for them or you will get plagued by eels if you don't or completely blank.. Quite small carp by todays standards but large i was told on the coarse lake . It's a lovely sun trap too but it can get blistery hot so you may want to move if you are not a sun god.

    Good luck everyone

  8. "Finally God answered my prayer right before I ran out," he told CNN.

    THAT'S IT!

    I was wondering this

He was too busy saving this man’s life instead of all those passengers who were deliberately slammed into a mountain, i mean there were babies on that plane although perhaps the baby’s time was right to meet him and he wasn’t. :wallbash:

God works in mysterious ways you know

  9. When i was in Africa out the back of the restaurant there were some storks and the butcher used to throw out the scraps for them. He was telling me that one day he could not find his meat cleaver and was under pressure so quickly just used another. The next day he was slicing up the meat when one of the storks chucked up the meat cleaver he had lost the day before and it was the cleanest and most shiny cleaver he had ever seen and looked like pure silver.

It now hangs up in his kichen and has named one of the 3 storks 'Clever cleaver'!

  10. I found this mate...http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-28797519

It seems it is to warn off predators for some and not as bedding. I have never disputed your findings just that in general they are not attracted to them

I flew a Raven once among about 30 other birds including vultures and in general i think in the animal kingdom pack animals are the most intelligent as they have to communicate in fact i have found carrion eaters quite intelligent. A Harris Hawk is basically the only bird of prey that hunts in packs and are extremely intelligent

Birds trained to you simply see you as their mother , the food producer and if you dropped dead they would not lay there like a dog they would try to eat you.

  11. took hsi clothes off and put them in the water as he had noticed the fish were attracted to other items in the water then used a hand net to catch them.

I believe nothing is impossible and hate others who think that it is no matter how much 'they' think they know more than you about something and that includes fishing . If somebody says they catch a big fish then i believe them even if the bailiff has not caught one that size in 10 years as whats the alternative because it ends up in spitefulness and back stabbing etc. However knowing a little bit of knowledge in this adventure or subject he must be a very lucky man and a very intelligent one and perhaps both saved his life . Good on him and i bet he will try again as those kind of people never give up until they have given up

  12. The crow family has a brain much bigger in size to their bodies than other birds and thats why they are more intellectual . But they have as other birds have no conscience and despite popular belief they are wary of shiny things and if anything they find them as a threat and will throw them to one side (the bold females) or avoid completely. Some people have known to hang CD's up in their garden so when the light reflects off them they get scared off and it works!

Animals do however seem to get fixated on what we can only call a hobby and like my bird ( with the golf ball) and many others over 25 years do seem to get enjoyment out of the weirdest things just like some of our hobbies seem to others.

Despite the also common belief that owls are wise too you could not be further from the truth as they have just about the smallest brain compared to their size and smaller than a crows probably as their face features take up most of their head so owls really are quite the dunce of the bird kingdom.

  13. It may just be playing. I have had a bird do the same and the female used to get the right hump with him as he would not bring it back to the nest and kicked him out to get more...

I had a hawk once that i had to fly away from golf courses because as it would pick up a golf ball and drop it say 20 yards away,

never had an eagle or a birdie or albatross do one though :yahoo:

  14. shame Hamilton's team cocked up.

Not sure they did Barry as i think they knew Ferrari could do a 2 stop on them from the start. The medium tyre worked far better than the Mercedes one being not just faster but less degradation too and in hot conditions that makes a immense difference and they knew they would have to do a 3 stop.

The fact that ferrari's tyres were more endurable won them the race fair and square. China will be interesting now for sure but i think Mercedes will re gain their superiority. It’s worthy of note the Team principle of Ferrari said they will only win 2 races this year....
