I fished a little as a kid in Ohio. Caught blue gill and the occasional cat fish. My father came to visit us in Argyll last week and we went up to a hill loch to fish for trout with bait. I caught one, and it tasted very nice, and now I want to go catch more fish!
I have almost no idea what I am doing. There is a good tackle shop in Lochgilphead run by a very nice man who doesn't make me feel bad about being utterly clueless. And, if he has any problems with bait fishing for trout, he keeps them to himself, so that makes me feel better about learning.
I've done a bit of reading about fly fishing and I have no desire to try it at this time. It sounds like a lot of bother and expense. I may change my mind.... They have tuition sessions at the stocked ponds by Loch Awe, so I may go up and try it, there, someday.
In the meantime, I am interested in learning more about bait fishing for trout and general coarse fishing. Will be taking my oldest son out on Loch Awe when it warms up a bit - you can rent a boat very affordably and that should be a really fun day out.
I really don't know what I'm doing at all. But, I guess I'm lucky to have ended up in such an amazing place - a lot of people back in Ohio would spend a lot of money to come rent the house next to mine for a week so that they could climb these hills and fish for trout. I figure learning to fish is another way (in addition to my hill climbing) that I can really enjoy what we are so blessed to have here in Argyll.
OK. That is a long introduction. I am a very chatty woman. Sorry!
