  1. Could I ask would people be more inclined to buy such work if they were designed specifically to be presented at matches, socials, venues etc.?
  2. Hi Ian, Sent you another PM but I don't know if you received it.
  3. Hi Steve, the bases are a little to shallow for trophies but I am trying to source some deeper wood that would make more appropriate mounts for future work.
  4. Hi ayjay, They are only viewable from the front, the reverse is just a hollow shell where I went in with the power tools. I'll give etsy a look, is that as popular as eBay?
  5. Hi Steve, Reverse carving involves the opposite approach to shallow relief carving. Instead of building up a sculpture using clay (the traditional way), I use blank acrylic blocks about 1 inch thick to carve into what will be the back of the piece. With the power tool held behind the work I begin carving the basic form and shape, while I look at the piece from the front to see the sculpture beginning to form. It can be a messy, dusty and extremely loud process because when a tungsten bit hits acrylic you better have some ear protection on but the end results are worth the effort. Hope that helps.
  6. Thanks Newt, I'm pretty new at this online selling of my work and I'm still learning. I'll leave the listings as they are for now so I don't dissuade any current watchers but make appropriate alterations on future listings. I replied to your PM but it's not showing in my sent folder for some reason, did you receive it OK? Simon.
  7. .....the eBay link for my new Carp sculpture is: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...em=280878169002
  8. Thanks for the suggestions Newt, I've modified the titles accordingly. Simon.
  9. Another Reverse Carving now available on eBay. This is another Mirror Carp but slightly different in form and with internally carved branch.
  10. Whilst I am on the topic of eBay, does anyone know how to best utilize it's categories for searches as I tend to find my work getting lost in the hundreds of thousands of other listings. Or is it just your luck?
  11. Cheers Newt, thanks for the response, sometimes it's just getting out fishing that's more important than the final catch (at least that's what I tell myself after a quiet day )
  12. Hi Newt, good question and thanks for the compliment. I didn't know how popular my work would be so I limited myself to UK buyers to test the water. Also this last couple of weeks Royal Mail decided to considerably increase their prices which I figured may put some international buyers off purchasing. However if anyone is interested I can provide international postage options, as I would be happy to send abroad. Regards, Simon.
  13. Forgot to mention in my new member introduction that my other past-time is sculpting. I have 2 piece for sale on eBay that I have Reverse Carved from blocks of acrylic, one is a Mirror Carp and the other is of a Perch. If anyone is interested the links are: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...em=280875176736 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...em=280877560364 Critiques welcome Simon.
  14. Hi all, came across your forum whilst browsing the web and thought I'd join. I've been angling for a few years now, mostly pleasure angling, but would like to increase my catch rate. I typically use bread and luncheon meat as bait on both feeder and pole and this generally gives mixed results, don't know if it's my bait presentation that's letting me down but what works on one lake doesn't always seem to get results on another. Anyway I'll enjoy trawling through some threads. Simon.
