  1. I'm taking my 10 year old here tomorrow for his first ever fishing session. I've only been once myself and caught fish all day. Hows it fishing at the moment? Is there any swims we can share? I really want him to enjoy the day so any tips would be great. gaz
  2. I've just spent £185 on fishing tackle new rod, new reel, new chair and lots of little bits. Good god that felt good!!! waiting waiting waiting, where's my tackle
  3. The tax man has seen fit to give me some money back, after the wife has dipped into it I have about £150 to spend on a feeder/quiver/ledger rod and reel combo. Whats good out there for that money? I would rather spend a little more on rod than reel btw I have a hand built float rod that I do the majority of my fishing with. I don't target particular species, I just like to catch fish. I would like the option to change tactics where the mood strikes so a good feeder rod will allow me that. I fish on three old estate waters and also have a brilliant commercial water nearby that I can treat myself to. The estate lakes hold carp upto 20lb and the commercial claims bigger (although i've not got one yet lol)although as I said I'm not really targeting those but nice if you can land them.
  4. since starting this thread i;ve been out and about and got a good selection together, really pleased with my choices, I think i'm turning into a tackle tart
  5. I did the same thing this year and started again. I found that I can catch fish exactly the same way I did 11 years ago. Match/float rod, match reel 4lb line, size 16 hook, maggots, sweetcorn, rod rests, net, mat, and a comfy chair and it seems to be a lot more fun now, perhaps thats my age tho.
  6. When I started fishing, a long long time ago in a stillwater far away. I had a float box full of floats, short, long, fat, thin some even long and fat, short and fat, long and thin........you get the picture. Then they were coloured, black blue green clear, etc. I'm sure that each one had a particular job and my only clue was my collection of stillwater blues, for use on........yeah stillwaters haha even I worked that out. But it didn't matter to me, I had my favourite floats I liked to use and I would slip on whatever I fancied trying that day. Now that I've started fishing again I've noticed if you want to buy a waggler then it had better be a crystal or be gone! I dont mind it, I understand why and all that but I miss opening up the box and looking over the floats hungrily then looking at the water and making my selection. Whatever happend to the stillwater blue, the canal grey, the peacock waggler, the bodied waggler etc. Thanks for listening, I'm off to get my medication nurse................
  7. Thanks for your replies lads, I've decided against it. I've doctored a camping chair (hacksaw v armrest) and it's plenty comfy, tackle goes in holdall, sorted, money left for more bits and bobs and membership to wacac. Thanks again. Now, anyone know how to stop this itch

  9. As title says really, looked at Badger and RS3 but read some shocking reviews. What say you guys???
  10. Go and give it a go, really nice place, I plan to go again and again
  11. the magazines and internet, poles, whips, pellets, bollies etc etc scared me half to death, Just glad I can catch fish without starting over, a pint of maggots, rod reel, shot and hooks got me started, felt a bit of a cheat when I tried the pellet bait but by god it worked well.
  12. Ok....ok... i've not fished in 11 years but I went out friday with my old tackle and my old methods and caught a lovely, beautiful, gorgeous, stunning little skimmer on my first cast!! I was smiling like a kid at christmas, cant remember having so much fun in ages. I caught fish all day, roach, plenty more skimmers and two superb carp. One common on pellet at about 6lb and a mirror on triple maggot about 4lb and eventually the tench I was really looking to catch I waggled my way through the day and only left because I ran out of bait. I fished Aldin Manor lakes near durham after seeing it in the anglers mail last week and can't wait to go back, it was a really beautiful place with farm shop, cafe and tackle shop. Five lakes, including trout lake, match lake and three coarse lakes. I'm well and truly hooked on fishing again
