  1. For some reason I find a centrepin with a ball race works better when water gets inside the reel, some thing like the okuma range.

     

    But for almost all my trotting I use a true pin reel ,match aerial or a trudex,speedia. Its a personal thing but I find i get more control with a true pin reel .

    Thanks everyone. So it sounds as if the problem was the maize, not th e float size. I cleaned and oiled it when I got home so hopefully it should e OK now.

    Well its not the reel m8. The one I have(anglersnet) trotts a 2no4 stick float with ease in a very light flow.

  3. Yes tigger i agree wind is always a problem with centrepins.But the type of conditions i am discussing is very low flow when you literally have to feed line of the pin with the left hand if you have no guard fitted it finds itself around the foot. At least it does for me that is

  4. If you are wallis casting with big floats in a fast current you will never need a line guard. However if your trotting light stick floats in low flow conditions a line guard combined with the loop cast does prevent the line going round the back of the reel foot.
