  1. I had a week in a fishing lodge just after ice out at Pakwash Lake way back in 1980, according to google maps that's SW Ontario'ish. We trolled minnows (shiners) along the bottom on rigs with small spinners and beads and had lots of walleye (the North American version of zander). Large lures produced northern pike, small lures produced perch. Another party had a nice smallmouth bass.

  2. Still use mine every trip, it gets the occasional "you don't see many of those these days" comments from the really old guys. Mine was lined with old lino about 40 years ago to keep the rain out. I do put an old cushion on top of it to stop indentations. It is surprisingly light when emptied, it's all the gear that's put in it that makes it heavy.

  3. A nice report, but surely you can't regard touching the edge of the landing net a catch ? My personal rule is if I don't have the fish under sufficient control to put it into a theoretical keepnet then it doesn't count.

  4. All you have to do at Celtic Lakes is follow the explicit instructions and you'll be rewarded with a least 5 double figure zander and probably a couple of nuisance 20lb+ pike. What more could you ask for :).

The Zander respond well to delicately presented coarse dead baits with small skimmer bream and roach being the stand out baits. Live bait roach also work well. ... The so called ‘Kebab Rig’, hair rigged chunks of roach or bream, also works very well using size 8 or 10 single hooks. ... Pegs around the island inlets (40-50) are very good swims as is the point swim (Number 1&2). Peg 54 in the bay entrance is also a very good Zed swim.

But with the negative (if realistic) tone of the responses, don't be surprised if Snakehead decides to post elsewhere...

  5. If you hadn't noticed, a much better hour long version is usually shown on ITV4 a day or two later, for example they showed the salamander one last night at 21:00. More fishing in the unedited longer version, he also fished for the Japanese version of the Wels catfish but failed to catch, some aquarium catfish were shown.

  6. Theory only as I don't seriously predator fish.

In Leicestershire, Celtic Lakes, formerly known as Frisby Pits, sounds prolific...

According to the Latest Catch Reports link they were catching double figure zander up until the ponds were recently frozen.

In Warwickshire, Coombe Pool, formerly known as Coombe Abbey, large fish but sounds hard...

  7. A couple of years ago a chap fishing a few swims away at a commercial was floatfishing them and had a few carp on them that evening. They were outfishing my floatfished luncheonmeat rod but not my surface rod. He was using curried ones from Asda. He gave me some leftovers but I didn't catch on them that day or on subsequent trips. They are soft enough to hook directly, or hair rig if preferred.
