  1. Thanks for the replies Indeed we are looking for something laid back and dont fancy joining the masses emptying sacks of halibut pellets and queueing up for known pegs (or is it not like that). A cottage in spain or france on the banks of a river or substantial lake with mixed fishing would be ideal . giving those that are fanatical easy access and those that drink too much red wine the facility to stroll down at leisure. without the hassle of logistics and swapping cars and whose got whose gear etc. If you could also give us guaranteed sun a swimming pool and access to a bus load of Nymphomaniac swedish cookery students it would be ideal thanks again for your help
  2. It appears my usual trip to india has been cancelled and i am looking for info on other options for something alittle closer to home. we are a group of about 6 with varied levels of experience and interests. general feeling is a holiday on the banks of a river or mixed fishery with easy access. with toe ption to live in a bit of luxury and enjoy a bacchanalian / bon viveur lifestyle. anyone with any suggestions
  3. thank you all for that i will have a go at showing you sea angler types how it is done
  4. Can anyone suggest a good boat in mid wales for tope fishing for a small party of coarse anglers who probably dont have the correct gear thanks in anticipation
  5. I am shortly moving to bratislava does anyone have any information on fishing in slovakia? Can anyone also tell me if there is anyn fishing on the danube is it polluted? Having seen the river in budapest it must be awesome fishing if it is any where near clean
  6. Obviously loads of choice but look no further than Lough Allen. There are several access points for shore fishing but i like the top of the lake at Ballinanaglerrah. If you have access to a boat the islands off cormongan pier can fish well but water levels can be a problem . Trolling off the power station has produced plenty of fish for us a as well Lough scur is easier fishing with plenty of small fish. if you like a roving approach try the river down from the sluice gates. Plenty of small pike from the road side on St johns Lough (drumshanbo to Ballinamore road. If you are prepared to travel about another 40 mins have a look at the lakes at Hill Street (Na Blaghy) good fishing off the wooden Jetty. Enjoy and visit Foxs Tavern (used to be floods and could be something else now ) for a quiet guiness or 12. plenty of fisherman usually prresent For tackle and further info try Lough Scur tackle on carrick to ballinamore road good luck
  7. I assume it was the large shearwater as the if it was the small one the large one must be massive and doesnt appear on the map.
  8. I have spent time whist on holiday on these lakes and enjoy fishing both Shearwater is solid with fish and almost impossible not to catch. if you after carp, bream can be a nuisance but all methods work. Carp probably average 8Lb good floater fishing off the dam wall in the evenings dont know alot about the top lake at longleat but the one near the car park is full of fish. when pole fishing for roach they get bullied off by the bream and then the bream get bullied off by carp and then you lose a carp and the swim goes quiet for about 2 mins before the circle starts again . great fishing in stunning surroundings on both lakes. not so sure nightfishing is allowed good tackkle shop in Frome (on the radstock road )for more info (Alan Haines) very helpful but maybe a bit match orientated for a carper
  9. Thanks for the info john it looks like i will have to stock up on lures . Just back from a brief day trip and once again only small catfish caught Trolled for a couple of hours and fish live and dead catfish for the rest of the day but not a decent fish spotted. we are now bribimng the locals to catch and photo any decent sized fish they catch just to find out if they are there. The lake is not rocky at all in the area we fish but is a flooded jungle with trees still in place so it is difficult to troll as each tree also has nets and bamboo pipes attached. neverthelesss you just have to keep going back and maybe one day!!!! Next trip will be in april with fishfinder so will know more then have also manged two blanks sea fishing as well last week perhaps i just cant fish!!!!!
  10. cheers newt Is the depth of the thermocline likely to be deeper in warm water?. There does not appear to be much flow in the bay i have been fishing and I am well away from the turbines. thaks agai or the advice hoping to go next weekend
  11. No worries, be sure the whole world will know when and if i get one. The challenge is brilliant and the whole unknown things really blows my mind. i was never a fan of small fisheries but this one takes it to the other extreme. Has anyone been to Lake Nasser what colour lures are best . i am also told that live cat fish is a good bait . anyone know what sort of depth the live baits are fished at ? Any tips welcome
  12. Thanks for that Newt , indeed the lake is beyond comprehension size wise and i have only been fishing a small arm of it. awaiting arrival of fish finder to make the job hopefully a tad easier. one big problem i can see is getting the devils out, if i eventually hook anything of any size. The lake is full of fishing nets strung between a million or two 60 feet high trees sticking up in the water, but then what would life be like without a challenge. I had looked at the list of species you, suggested its a bit daunting on the old latin front but it appears there are 250 different species of catfish and nile perch. seriously i have seen tilapia in the fishermans boats and a very peculiar fish with a tiny mouth and very protruding bottom lip. probably a top feeder which is worrying as i have only seen one fish top in three visits so there cant be that many of them. Looking at renting a house near the lake for weekends etc so if anyone is interested in coming out and helping to explore an almost virgin lake let me know its dirt cheap once you get here
  13. I am currently living in ghana and have heard rumours of nile perch in lake Volta can anybody shed any light or anyone any experience of fishing in ghana. Only manged small catfish so far but did see one very big of unknown species roll about 60 yards from the boat, but then it could have been a crocodile. or a smart local with a lacoste sleeping bag
  14. It seems all coarse fish will eat other fish I once caught two two pound + roach in two casts on a small vibro spoon ( anyone remember them)whilst spinning. i was even more amazed to return the next week and catch another two pounder on the same spoon. All three took as the spoon lifted off the bottom maybe they took it for some sort of beetle/bug ( not so good at entymology, or possibly spelling) (The fish were weighed on Avon scales and i have pictures for those who doubt). I have also landed a 5 lb barbel on the severn on a whole sardine intended for Pike. IMHO most fish will eat anything when they are in a feeding frenzy
