  1. we use spring tips here but not sure if they are the same as yours. the springs we use here are more susceptible to icing up at minus temps when reeling in which can cause all kinds of problems. Thanks for the input guys!
  2. i was referring to not using caps for my I's etc.. it's too bloody hard with my left hand, or i'm too lazy. signing for my credit card, wiping my rear end, driving, changing nappies and certain personal alone moments are quite difficult.
  3. yep. i have times where walleye are biting real light and they want something small. so i use a panfish rod to balance my tackle but when you strike that hard mouth with such a bendy sensitive rod, you often miss fish or lose them shortly after because the rod isn't stiff enough to set that hook right.
  4. would it still be interchangeable for different test curves if i did that?
  5. yes that would be perfect, if you could find out what shipping is i would be happy to buy them from you if you are willing. thanks! an ice rod is basically the top section of a rod with a handle attatched where the bottom section would normally be joined at the ferrule. i just need ones with the quiver tips attatched too.
  6. excuse my typing guys, my right hand got severed at work yesterday. thanks chesters! i was looking under the wrong names untill budgie set me on the right track. when fishing through the ice you have to make sure you detect the very light bites which are more comon than most people realise over here in canada.most guys only strike when they get a tug on the line! i see guys all the time missing bites when the fish are biting real light or even lifting the bait. interchangeable quiver tips are possibly a natural progression for ice rods. i want to make a couple to see how this technology fairs in the ice fishing world. i think it could be deadly for all speciese but especially for pan fish, perch, trout, whitefish and neutral behaving walleye and burbot. Budgie, i got hooked into ice fishing when i went out on my first trip. I was lying belly down on the ice with my face over the hole in about 8 or so feet of super clear water over the top of a 3foot high weed bed jigging for pike. A good size pike came swimming right under my face finning and waiting to strike my bait. when it pounced i jumped out of my skin and set the hook in the process of my jumping, lol. it was like fishing in a really big fish tank. i have had the ice fishing bug ever since. i hope you get to experience it one day. Rick.
  7. yes a tip ring, I can't find any on the web for some reason? Any help would be appreciated thanks! it's for some ice fishing rods i want to make Newt.
  8. Hi All! I'm trying to locate some threaded rod tips sections (female thread) to incorporate a quiver tip. If someone can set me on the right track that would be great!
  9. Being stuck in Canada, in the middle of Canada a long long way from anyone , I have to rely on home made baits and I was looking to get some top info on the bait making subject before I start my experimentation. Research saves a lot of wasted time and money.
  10. could you recommend a book that does?
  11. If so what was it like, is it a scam or is it legit? http://www.baitbigfish.com/shop/
  12. If there is a bunch of weed flowing in the river current in June, try pointing the rod tips in the water instead of a back lead if you can get away with it.
  13. Guys do catch carp through ice although not as readily as say pike or perch or walleye etc. A guy caught carp last year on a teardrop jig and two maggots. When I get down there I would be expecting to fish for sure
  14. Hey Newt, how's it going?! Good to hear from you! Someone was asking after you HERE. How is the pottery going? Looks like a real neat place you got there. I'm going to England this year but next year we're talking of doing a tour of some states. The Carolinas sounds good to me plus the place you live sounds awesome what with all those potters there. Anyway, I'm asking about rigs because at this time of year I start getting real itchy to go carping so I start tying up a bunch ready for spring. I'm going to be trying a bunch of places on one lake and it has shallow flats of silt to sandy bays to deep 80ft rocky drop offs. Plus it has the potential for a record N.A. carp as a few years ago a 50+ carp was shot (unfortunately) with a bow & arrow. So needless to say I'm going for the biggest I can get . Well I like tying rigs up but I'm trying to sift through the pointless ones to be left with the ones that matter and make a difference with all the different swim types on this water. Well it's good to hear from you and I hope all is well, ATB, Rick.
  15. So the bulk of rigs are rendered pointless bar say maybe 4 rigs maybe like a Zig rig, a pop up rig, a bottom bait rig and a float setup?
  16. I find that casting down current and letting the lead settle and then adjusting the BR drag until it JUST stops pulling line on my running rig. I fish Canadian Rivers too. Good Luck!
  17. With all the different rigs out there it can get confusing so what I would like to know is what rig is used for type of swim or how the carp are feeding etc..?
  18. Are there certain rigs that work better than others when fishing for carp that feed more tail up and same question for feeding more tail down?
  19. I know some Pike do this when they are looking out for chicks or ducklings.
  20. Sounds like a nice place. Good luck!
  21. How about pop ups on lakes where they get little to no attention like Europe or North Am?
  22. It seems that all the rigs recomended in the major carp magazines are all pop up rigs. Why? It's not even British specific magazines either as it's the same in the International Carper (I know it's a Brit made mag but it's aimed at the international carper). Are the big names of carping trying to make bottom bait hook baits redundant or do they have good reason to only concentrate on pop up rigs due to them being more effective than bottom baits?
  23. found this new search engine looking for "Angla Net". GizoogleC to da izzarp! May contain X to tha P lizzit contizzle! Fo Shizzle? [ 11. March 2005, 08:30 PM: Message edited by: saskcarp ]
