  1. Often thought of using these for mainly Barbel, but the feedback is not promising as to suitability, was thinking might have some use when fishing close to snags on a short hook length, anyone used them?

  2. Honda 90? Fond memories of that little bike, what a cracking little machine? Got me to and from work in Southampton until some thieving so and so must have lifted it up into a van, not much more value than the tankful of petrol I just put in, but now quite sought after.

I 'elevated' to a MZ 250 the oddest bike I ever owned...ugly as sin with drainpipe looking exhaust but did the job....and then a Kawasaki Z400 which accompanied me on a few fishing trips...sadly not been on a bike for years, but still hanker about doing so and then the Mrs reminds me of my age.

Well done Ken for keeping it simple, way to go, I always take a minimum of gear, much more fun.

  3. I had all of January ill in bed, never had anything quite so bad, flu with knobs on, worst still were the night terrors....the only thing that worked was a sleeping pill. Lost a stone in weight but sadly back on, but feeling better.

If you have had a scan and the all clear don't know what else they can do, but it does sound like IBS but they would have checked that. Are you lacto intolerant? Could be you have developed a food allergy which won't show up, ask for a allergy test perhaps.

I have had most of my bowel removed as a result of catching a water born bug from fishing the Severn in flood, nearly died....thing is keep on the the NHS don't be fobbed off.

I flicked between the news channels and watched the proceeds on Aljazeera (same feed as France 24 and others) the BBC kept using weird angles and some of the commentary  was dire! Aljazeera despite its bias was pretty unbiased . Even ITV was better than the beeb! Britain despite its problems does pomp greatly 👌

My only moan was the flower throwing was crap! at dianas funeral the drivers mate had to remove some! at this event only two roses remained on the bonnet for half the trip only in the latter stages did a few more hit and stick !

I was trying to show the mrs the difference between bear skins and busbies but saw no busbies so had to use google🙄

Was lizzies state funeral bigger than churchills? i vaguely remember seeing far more people at it,certainly far more people watched today! back then it was newsreels at cinemas  overseas and tvs even in the 60's were expensive for most working class here

What a strange man you are.

  5. A John Wilson Medium Quiver rod 11.6 ? It's the original rod not Jarvis. I picked up as new for £25 recently, it has a spliced glass tip, extending almost the whole top section, very odd, it does look like its manufactured not a repair or similar. There is no horrible screw tip, tip just a nice progessive taper It does say on the blank 11..6, but its a bit shorter than that. Lines 3 to 7 lb.

I have searched high and low and can't find anything on this rod, was wondering if anyone can help, It might be a prototype that never was manufactured being Tewkesbury the original home of these rods.

Anyway it a lovely rod and should make a good addition.

  6. There is a 3 part documentary on i player outlining the deceit oil companies used in hiding the facts regarding warming and fossil fuels. That started back in the 70s and still oil is used as the acceptable face of corruption and power.

Exon invested in alternative energy, and the new head of company tore the whole thing up, because he was a dyed in the wool oil man.

We need Government backed technology to bring change, but the dilemma is the likes of Saudi have a bottomless pit of money and influence to prevent or at least stall progress.

  7. Diesel powered power stations really? Can't see it, the only way to satisfy demand is good old nuclear..in fact the SNRs, small nuclear reactors are now being rolled out, cheaper than the old big reactors.

Economy 7 ..I was in the Electrical supply business and this tariff was mainly for heating storage heaters, God help us if anything defined the 70s and 80s it was those useless things, cold when you needed them and hot when you didn't . 7p per kw hour as opposed to 10p trouble is folk don't understand what a unit of electricity, or more so a thermal unit of gas. And as for water who does?

Back to fuel there has to be a cut in duty, but I fear for those who genuinely are going to suffer.

Mind you as a kid I used to wake up on cold winter days with ice on the inside of my bedroom window, and we were as fit as butchers dogs!

They want truss Ken and she is Labours secret weapon 😂 and what about the 30% who still want Johnson ???  and they still shout brexit which is going to sink the tories for decades ,it’s going to be payback time in the next election  Ken for there deceit and lies when promoting  the promise land of brexit  Brexit when there is no promise land that’s the reality.

Sink the Tories for decades? That Labour have seen so little of power for decades I can't see a change of the public perception of what Government should look like. Make no mistake the Labour Party is divided, Starmer wants a more centre led agenda whilst he has the problem, a perennial problem with the Unions, as of right now.

I have reservations with Truss, but it should be more about the party as a whole rather than a single personality, however these days you cannot escape the vicious media packs that are intent to disable the country for a headline.

Both candidates are a bit weak, but hey ho we had Boris and couldn't accept a leader that showed some backbone, not really looking forward to a future without him.

    Yawn....

  9. Ok these sort of debates are never great viewing, but at least there is passion in the arguments, and very sincere.  My heart says Liz but head ....My concerns is that she might not have the wit and guile at the despatch box to cope, but given the Labour leader's  ineptness at the House either should be fine.

Its choice not brexit ,nothing is stopping people going abroad you prove that yourself ,if they CHOOSE to go via france they get what they deserve FRENCH people! And a spiteful EU trying to punish them . I i were in charge of dover i would just wave every vehical through if the frogs cant be bothered to do it ,**** them!

If only the French were bothered in checking validity of illegals coming here to our wonderful independent Isle. Of course the French orchestrated this, to blame it on this side is Putin esque propaganda.

So....who do we want Liz or the guy that will lose the next election?😔

  11. What is incredible is that someone can dedicate his life to a lost cause.

Cod you won't change anything by continuing to undermine the right and proper vote that was cast by the British people for the British people to leave the EU.

Of course we are as other nations are, suffering limited growth, and high inflation. Although the unemployment rate is down, do you recognise the implications of Putin the Great war on Ukraine to be the reason, or are you going to ridiculously continue to blame the democratic vote?

We as a Nation are taking the tough decisions and gaining back our pride, we have left the EU and we are dealing with the unacceptable boat people by taking measures to deter this illegal, and murderous trade in human life.

The country is in good hands at last, we are not afraid to be proud again, and along the way there will be hard knocks, but I am and many others too feel its a small price to pay ...Of course if you or anyone wish to cross the Channel legally, you can, where the EU you admire so much will be waiting...but a word of caution, I know folk who have made that trip, and deeply regret it..the old maxim about grass being greener has never been so relevant.

Your rants are repetitive and boring, you do not gather any support on here because you condemn all things Brexit which of course is irrational.

Of course you won't stop, and the real mystery is why this thread has dragged on for so long...for the sake of all things Holy give it a rest...GO FISHING!

I very much dislike using a feeder and if possible I always catty or throw out my groundbait/particles and cast as small a weight as possible onto it.  I don't like leaving my bait in for more than about 10 min's before re casting.  One reason for not leaving it long before re casting is you never know if your bait has landed in a spot where it isn't easily got at or maybe can't be got at, or even if it has been coverd up, come off, pulled off etc.  The thought of sitting there for a half hour or more before re casting and my bait being hidden between some rocks etc isn't my idea of fun 😶.  Another reason for re casting more often is the fish very often see the bait as it goes down which incites them to go for it.  I often make a wind or two of my reel handle a few minuites after casting out in order to move my bait to bring it to a fishes attention and hopefully incite it to take it, and it very often does the trick.

I would always prefer to do this, and the rivers you fish you can, but the river Severn is a different challenge, and lends itself perfectly to feeder fishing, and it can be exciting...especially with smaller baits and hooks.

Barbel fishing is a strange one,on rivers like the Wye where populations are high feeding is imperative, however with many rivers having less barbel to fish for because of otter predation in the main often small pva bags with a couple of boilies and a small amount of pellet is all that is required,no beds of bait, hoping to cast no less than 40 minutes between casts, feeding is venue orientated....maggot feeder fishing is different, fifteen to twenty minutes is my go to....

And that's the crux, with less barbel in the rivers, apart from the Wye and Trent, you are just feeding off the smaller species most of the time, I still think the Wye deserves a fair amount of bait, and they do shoal there, albeit feeding spells are some time between each other, but you have to ensure you have some bait down to stop them.

I guess frequency of casts will be down to if they are having it (avin it).

As said most of my barbel fishing now is long boring interludes of setting up and then going home.....I like to target other species to help, especially when the only barbel  bite you get is last knocking, if you are lucky.

Trotting down a float until dusk is what I need to be doing.

  14. No point in feeding if the fish are not responding, of course initially when fishing Wye or similar where there are large shoals of chub minnow and barbel, laying down a carpet of feed is imperative, if only to arouse minnow etc, they will attract the bigger species. I would recast initially every 5 minutes at least for say 30 minutes, and then if no bites stop, and the fish a lead over the baited area and wait.

The tip of the rod should be an indicator if there are fish in the peg.

Other rivers such as the WA I will drop a load of feed initially via dropper and wait if barbel are the target.

I love black cap maggot feeder fishing, you really need to be like a metronome in feeding.
