  1. Glad to see your still alive Peter! soon be joining you in lovely Narfolk! will have to meet up as been to long.

Seriously deteriorated though! Good to see you again, perhaps even to remind you how to catch! Even better if we can persuade Newt into a re-run.

  2. Every tackle company in the world makes the odd dog of a rod & I suspect that Steadfast is no different. Was a time when they made some highly regarded rods but I suspect that today's Steadfast tackle is no better & no worse than any other budget gear that you might buy in Argos for example. I don't think that you can generalise when you ask 'does a company make good rods'.

  3. I just lashed out and spent £2.99 on a tub of the above. Opened the lid and tried putting one on the hook, and then another and then another and the yet another. All fell apart no matter how I tried to hook them. To my mind utterly useless things, not hook friendly or even finger friendly. Does anyone actually have any success with them? How on earth do you successfully hook the blessed things? Help and advice please!

  4. I use a fly rod on my yac, a rod for line weight 3 to 4, does the job a treat. At this time of the year I also use it as a fly rod, replacing the fly with a couple of maggots on a sink tip, had some nice roach & rudd from the margins. At other times I use a standard float set up on the fly rod.

  5. As you are new to fishing may I suggest that you buy what you really need. In my opinion a nine foot float rod is unlikely to be have much use in carp fishing, let alone angling in general, hence it was on e-bay! Good multi-tasking rods are a rarity. Get out there fishing, watch & listen to other anglers. Don't be impressed by labels but better to buy one good rod at a time, as and when you need it.

  6. Better than a Leeds? Okay, so a Leeds may require a fraction more pull to overcome the initial inertia than some other reels but I like that. I want to be able to control the float rather than use the float to control the reel. To my way of thinking a good Leeds, at £20.00 or so on e-bay, is a good, logical, easy to use tool, worth having.

  7. Re unhooking a pike from a Broads holiday cruiser, so much better for the pike, especially during the summer, if they can be unhooked in the water. Crushed barbs, hooks simply rolled out, minimum handling, as they say, maximum conservation. Pike stocks on the Broads have plummeted in recent years, as Tesco say about their profits, every little helps.

  8. Hire boats all have fridges so keeping bait fresh should not be a problem.

As far as lure fishing is concerned most hire boats have high sides making them unsuitable for landing and handling pike. Best get a dinghy if you really want to go lure fishing.

Trotting on the Broads, feeder fishing is easier & the bream keen to oblige.
