  1. Hi

I have just read your post, but I was at AS Watersports today - I think we met!

I tried the Prowler 13 and the Scupper. I preferred the Prowler. My other half preferred the Scupper.

It was good to try them out, thanks.

Andrew - 2nd attempt due to dodgy eyesight/technique!

AS Watersports in Haven Road have a Kayak Fishing come & try day tomorrow - 9th May - All the major brands will be available to try there so it couldn't be more convenient I would imagine.

Mark & Tim from JO UK will be representing Ocean Kayak & Humminbird - to declare my interest - we're happy to be compared with all on show

  2. Having just walked part of the beautiful Southwest Coast Path, my mind is made up on getting a fishing kayak. As a total novice, my primary concern is stability. I'm guessing that kayak choice is personal and subjective, but don't want to end up with a turkey. I'd be grateful for recommendations as to makes/models suitable for inshore fishing.

    Thanks

  3. annoyingly i ordered one of the older models a few years back as i didn't want the flashy colour of the newer model. i was sent a GTE-B instead . after a couple of years of moderate use, it failed. on the plus side shimano felindre fixed it FOC.

my older baitrunners have been going for over a decade. baitrunners were the standard, maybe this isn't the case anymore?

  4. Come on you old foggy get with it and get down with the kids!

Aint you heard of "Mugga" hooks,"Stonz" weights or the likes (cant think of all the hundreds of others right now!) No one spells properly these days its just not "cool"! and the modern youth learn in "Media Studies" at school that if you want to draw attention to something when marketing it you spell it in a wacky, zany way!!!

Sure, but I thought Greys was an upmarket brand, the rest being the province of carp anglers from Essex.

  5. just because a fish isnt hooked in the scissors doesnt mean it hs to be gut hooked!

no it doesn't, but you do get gut hooked fish with trebles. you don't with circles, or at least i haven't yet.

Serious question re your last statement- How many have you missed on circle hooks and what baits/methods have you been using?

an interesting question. with the right baits and tactics on the right day, i miss few if any fish on circles. they are good for small dead and livebaits and excellent for wobbling. virtually a waste of time for large baits.

had to add the caveat about the right day. in a previous post i described how i hammered a swim with singles, went back a couple of days later and missed nearly all the runs until i used two trebles. having said that, my default trace before i discovered circles was a single treble, so more a case of one versus two hooks rather than trebles versus singles.

Why did you feel the need to change from trebles or is it just a case of seeing what circles are all about?

    1. no gut hooked fish - that alone sells it for me

    2. i've always found trebles to be a bit of a pain in the arse with netting etc

  6. as you may know, i'm very pro-circle hooks for piking. can't say i've seen undue damage with scissor holds, certainly with barbless circles. nonetheless, maybe the point is that a scissor hold is better than a gut hold. i've yet to gut hook a pike with circles. can't say how many fish i've caught on circles. but i should imagine around 50.

  7. congratulations and thanks for posting.

i had a similar plan, used google maps to find some slack water as the river was really pushing through and a horrible colour. found the perfect spot, but it didn't come off :(

i'm really struggling at the moment!

my baits were placed at the red x

  8. inspired by this thread and the video posted, i took myself down to my local river after working all night :o. the river was in a shocking state and the mud was something else. i fished bread crust and lobworms in likely looking spots, but no success i'm afraid :(. at least it didn't rain. hope others are faring better.

  9. Shall be out deadbaiting on the local canal weather is all in the mind B)

good luck mate. i'll be interested to hear how you get on. i got offered some over time today, so that made my mind up. maybe tomorrow...

  10. I was planning a session this weekend, but not so sure now. Lots of rain last night and while the weather tomorrow isn't dire, it's not that appealing from a fishing perspective or comfort.

    What are you up to?

    Cheers

  11. I've now moved to Exeter, after a few years in Leamington Spa and a year in Southampton - AN advice gratefully received for those locations in the past.

Once again, I'm calling on the collective knowledge of AN regarding local fishing. I've joined E&DAA and has some success with pike on the Exeter Canal, but would now like to get a decent fish or two from the River Exe, any species.

By quirk of fate (or rather my profession), I have occasional permission to fish Trew's Weir. I know some people would give their granny to fish this bit of water, but it's been frustratingly slow, so am looking at the E&DAA stretch downstream.

Any advice, I'm not expecting anyone to give away their hotspots, just something to get going with. I quite fancy a roving approach for chub (or whatever) this weekend, what do you think prospects are?

    Cheers

  12. Cory wants to be educated, I'm not looking for an argument or anything but what would be wrong with just a decent tent like this one?

    http://www.campingworld.co.uk/Models.aspx?ModelID=756

I used to to 'all nighters' at various spots on the Mull of Kintyre when I was a youngster and because my transport was a motor bike and not a car I just used a two man ridge tent and that suited me fine?

    Just a question.

my long stay trips are well behind me, but i think the problem with regular tents is that they are often too low, especially at the door way for rapid and graceful exits. also, they tend not to give a great view of the water.

i know what you mean though, i have serious trekking tent that i may push into fishing service one day. it also happens to be green ;)
