  1. Are those them foreign slates , good job mate, did you do the lead work also.

    . ;)

    Hi Andrew.

No they are not those foreign slates.

They are Cumbrian natural slate, hard as stone and when tapped they ring like stone as well. Bugger to cut as they are so hard.

Being Heritage they wanted traditional tools and methods. Easy to say but not so easy to do.

  4. For some unknown reason I can no longer go from a link to a web site in an Email.

All I get is a message saying,

This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel.

What the He## does that mean and how do I do it. :o:huh:

Easy now folks with any help as I am a true technophobe and prefer roofing.:rolleyes:

  5. Your not making things easy mate. Loads of Polish and Italian people settled in South Wales during and after WWII. The west coast of Scotland and Glasgow too. If you know the place and date then that will help narrow it down a bit, otherwise I think you'll need to contact Somerset House. I have the same problem on my fathesr side. I can get back as far as my paternal grand father then hit a dead end.

I'm really jealous of my French ex-wifes family. They can trace their family history right back to at least the revolution. Old photographs, old birth certificates, old ID cards, army records, gravestones the lot. They talk about old great great uncle what's-his-name as if he was still alive and not someone who had been dead for a century and a half.

I am thinking I might have to go to Kew as well now as that is where the records are. Oh Well, worth a try.

I know how you feel, my wife has gone back generations and her family all seemed to stay in the Hereford /Worcester area as farmers.

  6. Do you know where he was born, and his date of birth? Do you know what your paternal grandfathers occupation was when your father was born?

Sounds strange I know but all I know of my father is his date of birth and possibly place.

I am under the impression his father could have been of Polish extraction but his mother was from South Wales ( Barry )

Don`t know her maiden name either.

  7. I am trying to do my family tree but it turns out that my father changed his name by deed poll many moons ago.

My problem is that I have no record of his name before the change and no family members left to turn to to try and find out

Do any forum members have any idea of where to go next without a trip to London and looking through records. :o

I do know that it was not a legal obligation have have the name change registered.

    Help please.

  8. Off to the above this week end for 3 yes 3 weeks, Dahouet to be precise and need to know what the Sea Fishing is like over there. Also any Fly Fishing in the vicinity.

I have found the guided parts about Fly Fishing but want really to just wander and fish if possible, or have a look at some still waters.

Might even have to have a go at chuching a fly in the briny as it is on the door step virtually to where we are staying.

Any help/advice would be much appreciated.

  9. Cheers Colin, but apparently it is a fault with the P.C. set up.

I have a Sony VAio with built in cam. it is set up for default capturing pictures not Bluetooth, (so I have read)

I have found a fix on the Skype forum but not really being into I.T. it could take reading a few times to find out what I have read.:lol:

I may get there one day. :D:huh:

    Cheers

  10. Downloaded this Programme for Video Calls but it will not show the video.

It says " Video source isn`t delivering the stream in the correct format "

Anyone got any ideas how to fix this, in words of one syllable please, I am a roofer not an I.T. expert.:rolleyes:
