Many thanks MJB. Just great to win something feels like I have won the lottery
Looking forward to trying them on the Pike in Loch Awe this May as well as in Cornwall later in the year.

Would love to give them a go both in the sea and would also like to give them a bash in Loch Awe this May for the Pike M.J.B.

Welcome to the board Laney. Enjoy it here, plenty of free advice given when asked for.
Great to get into a new/different form of fishing aint it.
As a fairly newcomer to the fly myself it is the possible reason for fly fishing to be taking the driving seat at the moment.
One thing I do miss is river fishing in any form so I do envy you on that part of fishing.
Tight lines

Same here Ian, Coarse, Sea, (boat and shore) but more fly fishing lately for some reason or another.

.
Fly fishermen are (generally) very friendly and less inclined to own a white van (of which I have been guilty of).
One of which I do still go to work in Ian !!! So what is wrong with that ??

After a days fly fishing and waiting for the ferry home, I took this of Lymington Marina from the Railway Station.

Can`t really say it is here neither. I think it was in the region of 176 anglers to return around 30/35 Cod over two days in the championships this year off The Needles

It's solid F9 here, with gusts to F11 at the moment. Visibility is about 3 miles due to the amount of seaspray in the air.
Much the same on the Isle of Wight I am affraid. No fun tiling the church roof today at Brading I can tell you.

Pound for pound, try catching mackrel on the fly.
I would agree with that in the sea but you don`t get many Mackerel in freshwater.

Hope to get out to the Needles Sunday. Hope there are a few Cod still about
They didn`t seem to catch to many in the Cod Championships last week.

Pound for pound trout fight harder/faster than any coarse fish you are likely to catch.
Nothing more to say really.
Light tackle, on the move all the time and some great fighting fish.

Both can be good live baits for cod and bass.
Do you ever see angler using live baits for bass?
All said with tongue in cheek Sam hence the smilies.
But please read Simons post again. It read as if his mate put the Pout on the hook and then caught a Goby on it.

my mate had a small pouting which he used on a hook and he caught a small goby.
I hope he didn`t catch the Goby on the Pout bait. Must be one hell of a Goby.

How long is a piece of string and how much do you want to spend.
Seriously, buy the best you can afford, if you do get on with fluff chucking and have only bought cheap tackle it won`t be long before you have to fork out again on something more suitable.

Have you got yahoo/google toolbar installed?
It has to do with the highlight text feature built into the toolbars
Not as far as I know no. Or at least I have not downloaded them.

Why are some words on sites, this one included, now underlined in yellow and when passing over them seem to be a link to elsewhere.
I am sure this has happened before and am now lost on how to stop it.
For example on my puter on A.Ns front page Free Prizes is underlined in yellow, I wouldn`t mind betting no one else is suffering this.
Any ideas on how to get rid of this.
Thanks

Forecast was a force 5, a bit chilly first thing but turned into a smashing day, wind died away and the sea flattened out quite a bit as the day went on.
First fish came aboard within minutes of dropping the bait, double squid or at least three if they were on the small side.
First fish was a very plump 13lb. Cod, the lead must have nearly hit it on the head the bite was that fast after gettint to the bottom. Half an hour later the second fish fell to the same guy, smaller fish of around 8lb. but a Cod none the less. That was it apart from the bvious L.S.D. until slack water when the Conger came onto the feed. First blood to the Skipper, nice fish of around 30/35lb. Another three were to follow, a couple of high teens and the last was a strap.
As the tide picked up again the Cod came back on the feed, I lost one then another was lost by another guy.
One more was landed before I got a second chance litterally on the last drop of the day, a fish of about 7/8lb.
Grand total for the day 4 Cod, 4 Conger, 1 Pout and endless L.S.Ds.
Just nice to get out fishing.

So what would the advantage be of using a circle hook for say cod fishing over rough ground? I can see that they have their place from the boat and for fish such as mullet but due to the size of a cods mouth ould a circle hook stil work the same?
I hope so, I just bought some for next weekends Cod fishing.

Not so bad on the phone. You want to go there in person, by the time Mike has shown all the stock he sells you are good for 1/2 hours at least. Great bloke though and very helpful.
Never seen such small Circle hooks, great for Trout flies.

Thanks for that Nick.
I am sending him the link, great stuff.
Thanks again.

fly rod advice

My own choice for a good floating line wpuld have to be the Snowbee XS Prestige WFF. Very little if any memory and shoots well.
As has been already said rods are something to suit yourself and couldn`t really reccomend one without knowing how much you were looking to spend, as you know I should think you can pick one up for next to nothing and is probably worth that, or pay the through the nose for another one that again may not be worth it. Good luck.
