  1. We have a number of good tackle shops in my area of which only one I find expensive, the one very close to me is always willing to match most items found on the net, I recentley brought rods, bivvie, bed and chair which as a single purchase he bettered the price I showed him from the net.

  2. I have been with NTL using the TV and Broadband packages for about 3 years now and have not experienced any problems with the service that have annoyed me enough to mention.

There help desk is like many, take ages to answer the phone, but they pay for the call so I switch to hands free and do something else whilst waiting, once you get through the staff seem to understand and know what there doing.

  3. Mitchels were the best in there day due to the engineering that went into each model, the only difference today is that some modern reels are a tad lighter in weight.and perhaps have finer clutches.

I can remember buying my last 440 new for £26 in 1980, I still sometimes use this reel and the many other mitchels I own mainly 300's, they all still work and look as good as new.

I used my 300's for all my carping and piking from the early 70's and probaly all the ledgering i did in those days.

  4. Gaywoods is owned by a couple named Ian and jane really nice people, well run fishery.

Barbless hooks only, unhooking mats landing nets etc,I think there is a restriction on what bait you can use as well, but nothing to stop you fishing.

Some really big grass carp in there, loads of tench, massess of rudd and a good head of good size carp, plus perch & roach.

Nice fishery, its got some items that GAYWOODS DEMOLISTION have collected over the years around the perimeter of the lake, Mig Fighter, those mini sub things that had mines on the front of them and a few what look like missles off of planes dotted around.

I used to fish it up until 2004, I was told that it had a good head of large tench in there but could only find the ones around 5-6lb after quite a few visits.

As i say its a pleasent welcoming place that appears to be well managed, Ian will always find the time to stop and have a chat.

Might even go back this year for a few sessions myself.

  5. I have gone for the chub Cyfish one man, its the pram type and at the moment there chucking in an over wrap free for £140, picking it up friday.

I also taken a shine to the chub bed chair, but going to have a look at other before parting wish cash

  6. The twin skin has mesh breather panels set into the roof making it necessary to use the overwrap every time the bivvy is used.

The single skin obviously has no mesh panels, an overwrap is available.

Are you likely to be on the bank often for overnight sessions?

If so go for a decent quality 3 leg bedchair. The JRC bedchairs are decent quality. Depending on your physical size will determine which bedchair you go for. Some are smaller than others.

Bag wise, it looks like you are planning spring and summer sessions. With this in mind, a 3 season sleeping bag with perhaps a bedchair cover should fulfil your requirements. Remember, even in summer it can still get cold in the middle of the night.

    Hope it helps mate. :)

I will be getting in mostly 2 night sessions, thanks for the advise.

    cheers

  7. There are extremeley secure physical ID cards & systems in use in this country already, some have biometrics some rely on a physical check (security/police etc) any system introduced will only be secure if card holders and the government work together.

Its no good winging about illegals/fraudster etc if your not prepared to assist in reducing the risk.

  8. Cheers guys, I have had a look at the STI they do a single or a twin skin version with not a lot of difference in cost so will probably go for the twin skin version.

Next question, what about a bed and sleeping bag? which would you suggest, I will be fishing from about mid April up until the end of july mid August at the latest.

  9. Iam planning some long sessions this year and will need a bivvie, which one should i buy , how easy/quick are they to put up ? looking to spend about £150 ish . only one man version needed unless you advise otherwise.

  10. We stayed a couple of days up by the giants castle at a b&b (£20 per night per couple) and the owners lent us rods and bait to fish their dam, really good fun, took me back to when i was a kid fishing for the first time.

We found that the Bass seemed to head for the sky when hooked.

  11. Wickerdave , Sorry for the delay in replying, we did not do do to much fishing in the end as there was so much to see, but cauaght quite a few Bass in the dams, using little bait casting rods and rubber worms.

These thing go ballistic when hooked, only to about 2 pounds but good fun, also caught a blue fin but only small one.

  12. Is anyone fished or fishing Mill House Fisheries (Ecton complex Northamptonshire)?

Iam thinking of fishing Clover Lake as I have been told that there is a good head of big Tench in there.

Any information would be most appreciated.

  13. I used to work night shifts many years ago and found the best way to deal with sleeping was to just treat coming home in the morning the same a finishing a day shift, get home, have me tea/dinner, do odd jobs, go fishing etc etc and not go to bed until about mid day. we used to start our night shift at 20:30hrs so I would sleep until at least 19:00hrs
