  1. Personally I wouldn't use dual boot if that's all you want to achieve. Presumably you already have separate users set up, so why not just use the spare drive for her application stuff and configure the desktops and data locations accordingly?

  2. JUST made what COULD be an important discovery??? Board has FOUR slots for RAM!

    Two 184-pin DDR DIMM sockets for 2.5V DDR SDRAM PC2100 / PC1600 [DDR266 / 200] Max: 2GB

    - Two DIMM sockets for 3.3V SDRAM PC133 / PC100 Max: 2GB

Soooooooo could I use the OTHER two slots and simply replace the RAM??? as I am ASSUMING that as number ONE slot is compromised I cannot use slot two for ram? BUT would it be ok to use slots one and two for the different ram?

I'm not sure what you mean by using slots one and two for the different ram, because isn't slot one dead? Other parts of the MOBO may be knackered, but can't you test it by using only one strip of your existing memory in slot 2 and see if it works.

  3. Here's an interesting development. I'd read something somewherte about instralling Flash, so I installed Adobe Flash. Tried searching for 'Fred' on yahoo images. The first results page has 18 results and two thumbnails are displaying, the rest are not.

  4. have you accidentally changed any security settings on your browser ??

    or firewall/ anti virus settings

I don't know. Do you know which settings might affect this? I've looked at both my IE security settings and my Antivir settings, but I can't tell what might stop this results screen from working. I also looked through similar questions on yahoo answers but I can't find anything specific noted.

I should add that I get the same problem in both IE and Firefox.

  5. We have three accounts on this PC. Suddenly If I try yahoo image search with my account, the resulting thumbnail pictures will not load, although it used to work fine. Yahoo video search still works OK with my account and produces a thumbnail results, and so does google image search.

The other user accounts both work fine with yahoo image search. Does anyone know why my account alone no longer works properly with yahoo image search please?

  6. The whole Olympics should be held in the same venue every time instead of different countries spending millions or billions on building overstated spots facilities centred around one location. Just think how many excellent and varied sporting facilities we could build all over the nation with the kind of money being poured into the 2012 Olympics.

  7. I think you can in theory get a shotgun and rifle at 18 but I'm not certain, air guns are pretty much the same now. You do of course need the appropriate licences, and they will not be issued unless you have a lawful reason and can prove it (such as membership of a HO approved shooting club).

As far as I know you still do not need to show the reason why you want a shotgun (except maybe in Northern Ireland), although it helps. In other words it is your right to be granted a certificate if you do not have a criminal record.

  8. I would ban the use of fossil fuels in motorised vehicles, except aircraft and possibly ships. We'd then almost definitely be forced down the route of using hydrogen. I would also have to decree hydrogen can only be produced using the sun to power the electrolysis of water.

  9. I saw part of that program where the chap ate roadkill. I think it was on Bodmin moor, but I am not certain. The bloke was somewhat eccentric to say the least and was plagued by a nuisance caller who pretended to to be the ghost of animals he had eaten. He'd got one badger in his freezer that was about 30 days old before he found it and the fat was green!

  10. A key point, not mentioned ( I think) is that there is much more Theobromine in dark chocolate as opposed to milk chocolate. I have some info somewhere that shows the relative dangerous weights depending on the type of chocolate. I'll post it if I can find it.

  11. No disrespect to your relative, but if they have trouble remembering how to unlock a phone (two button presses) and can't use a contacts list, maybe you're wasting your time, and a mobile isn't for them?

The Nokia range tend to have the most intuitive, logical interface and the 1100 and similar models are the simplest, so I'm not sure there's a simpler option

Jeepster, you may be right, but we are bathed in technology and have no problems with it. My father is fully compus mentis and he has the same problems with using his Nokia. They just do not find any of it intuitive.

I reckon I could come up with a much better interface for the elderly, but it looks as if Matomobile may well have already done it! I was sure that someone must have, but I could not seem to find them, so thanks yorkio.

  12. Thanks I have a older Nokia 6320 that is voice activated in a similar way you describe, but I felt this would be too awkward for her. Maybe the new 6300 is easier to use than mine. Do you have to first push a button to activate voice recognition?

My relative has problems with answering calls and making calls. She simply cannot remember what you have to do and she can't use even the easiest menu functions, like the contacts list . Her phone does have an anykey answer mode, but I disabled this because I thought it easier. Being a phone with no cover over the keys, I also wanted to put auto keyguard on, but I had to deactivate this feature too, as she could not work out how to unlock the phone.

    I'll have a read-up of the 6300.

  13. A technophobic, elderly relative of mine is in hospital. Due to the condition of some of the patients, the pay phone is disabled, so I bought her a mobile. I first checked the internet, but could not find an elder friendly mobile. Some people have suggested that the Nokia 1100 series are the simplest to use, so I bought one of these.

However she is finding this very difficult to use, so before I design and patent something myself, please would someone tell me what is the best and simplest mobile phone for the elderly.

  14. At my school (in the 70's), I used to blow up windows and bottles with 1940s crow scarers. However this and all the other similar dabbling in similar stopped when a younger lad blew three fingers off one hand with some stolen chemicals from the labs! I forgotten what is was now, but the mix was a documented explosive and he was ramming it into a test tube that he was clasping with his hand.
