  1. Hi Lid That is the technique we use to fish salmon in the cantabrian mountains, a lon rod 8 or 9 m or something like that, a hook witk a cooked shrimp and two worms, somethimes we use a cooked shrimp with a live shrimp. 1 m over the hook we place a big split shot to get enough depht. Besides of that we use Rapalas, spoons and of course flies ( tube and clasic flies, nymphs etc....). Whats the meaning of flyng 'C' lures??there are more methods for salmon fishing in United Kingdom?? The fish in north spain is quite good, there are not a lot of salmons, but we have a good number of trouts, but no so good as scotland or ireland, in fact a lot of spanish fisherman go to ireland for fishing salmon. Thank you Lid and phil Is posible to set pictures in this forum??
  2. Thank you Phil Despite of the spanish rivers has deep and calm pool I want to try it.I am worry because maybe that fishing deep the fish doens´t keep enough time the bait inside his mouth for hooking well. Yesterday begun the salmon fishing season in north of spain, the first atlantic salmon that was fished weighed 7 kg, and was fished in Eo river. Iñaki Reyero
  3. Hi Mickj, if finally I fish a salmon using this method it will be for your advice , because I was searching in internet about this technique and I did not find anything, no articles , no reports , nothing. Iñaki Reyero ireyero@euskalnet.net
  4. Thank you Mickj I will try to get the suitable tackes as soon as posible. In summer time the fresh salmons will be smalls 2 or 3 kg only, but take well the bait. The problem will be that the depht of the river change in few metres from 1 metres to 4 metres more or less, and this could be a serious problem. What is the maximum depth that it can be used this technique? more or less. I know that in the united kingdom you dye the shrimp of diferent colors, here only boiled shrimps with out tint.
  5. Yes, I have fish some of them the last year using a Rapala, it is a game fish but trout is trout, a lot of people fish here black bass that is very frequent in some lakes. But I`d rather fish salmon and trouts with dry and wet fly or nymphing. bye
  6. Well , in spain the rivers are publics,in some places you can fish getting before a license. The problem is that there are too many pikes in rivers like esla, orbigo, Luna or Porma that ten years ago were famous for their trouts, but now everywhere there are pikes and here trout is a holy fish. Bye
  7. Hi Peter and Mick You are very kind but i am afraid that I have to improve very much my English. At least I hope that we can understand among us. Do you like the pike fishing? we have a serious problem with them because thids fish is growing up too much in some rivers , where the trout live, you Know, the more pikes are the less trouts are. Mick I supouse that if the bait does not trot avobe the river bed It was very dificult that a salmon bite it. Despite of this I want to try it this summer, i am not sure about the kind of hooks that it use, float, leads, etc. If anybody has usefull information abaut it , please help me. That technique isvery similar to another one that some fishers use to catch seatrout using by bait fly ants ( male ants i think ) but with a less hevy tackle. Iñaki Reyero ireyero@euskalnet.net
  8. Thank you Phil There are not a lot of good rivers for salmon fishing in Spain, only in Asturias, galicia, Cantabria and basque country we can find this fish. Sella, Narcea and Cares are the most productive rivers with 600 salmons caught in each one. The seatrout is very common in a lot of this rivers. The bigger salmon of the past year weighed 15 kg and was caught in narcea river. Maybe that the problem in the rivers of the north of Spain was that the pools are deeper than in England are, 3 or 4m.Is so important that the prawn run near from the bottom?. I am very interesting in learn the English techniques for trout and salmon using fly or bait. thank you, and sorry for my bad english again Iñaki Reyero ireyero@euskalnet.net
  9. First of all , sorry for my bad english. I am a basque fisherman and usually go to fish to the rivers of the north of spain for brown trout, sea trout and atlantic salmon. Here we fish salmon with fly and shrimp or prawn with long rods and heavy rigs. A good friend said me that in england, Scotland and Ireland anglers fish salmon with shrimp too but using a float and casting it. I would like to try this technique this summer with spanish salmons. Could anybody describe the technique and the tackle for this kind of fishing? Thank you very much
