  1. @ J_s ..............is that the little river that runs past Bulwell market by the Kids park at the Tram/Train stop?

If the answer is yes I knew there were Roach and Bullheads but never thought it would hold Gudgeon.

No , further up towards Hucknall. It's a stretch controlled up Hucknall Anglers club.

  2. When we going to meet up again Steve?

I've got my car up here now so I can return the favour if there is anywhere you want to try that is different - streams/rivers etc, I've seen from older threads up towards Mansfield has a few free spots and Ollerton.

If you'd rather not, then please say :)

  3. Brilliant story Budgie, sad to hear the news :(

Dogs usually always deliver on the comedy when out and about, the older of our 2 dogs likes to get his nose every where he can and although I'd love to witness the same circumstance that came your way, bobo is a bit too small to cause that much body to be on display :D

  4. I took a trip down to the river on Sunday based on the forecast of it being much warmer, that didn't turn out very well. The temperature dropped that morning and the rain came down and I got very cold and wet, managed a gudgeon and a roach though while trotting :)

  5. Ordered it tonight and thanks to George will give it a once over.

As usual this place is great for info.

    thanks all :)

Hopefully it'll arrive before the season is out, of course I've never used one before so it may well be bird's nests galore :D

  6. I got a folding trout style landing net a long time ago, may have been Budgie who mentioned it in the past I can't remember but it's a bit on the nackered side now.

Whilst looking at the cheap pin on Dragoncarp direct's website that another thread on here mentioned I spotted their game landing net:

Anyone used it, seen it up close? Would it be ok for course fish?

    thanks

    James

  7. Bait! ;)

I'd very quickly move on especially if my muts were with me as they'd likely have a go at if it came on land, the older dog when he was about 4 months old instantly went on the defensive when he saw an adder, he didn't go for it just stood his ground and growled and barked at it to let us know it was there . The younger dog is dumb and would get bitten, I have no doubt about that lol.

  8. I know roughly where you mean as I can see where the river crosses under the road towards Bordon, my parents live up the road from you. Definitely give it a go. May be worth focusing on where it deepens first as that could be a nice fish holding feature :)

  9. No I think that AN lake should be located towards Nottingham ;)

I'd like to think it would be possible to club together to lease/buy somewhere but something tells me there are a lot more hidden costs or that ponds just cost too much anyway :(

Me too Terry, I long for those places! They were common when I was a kid, and now seem impossible to find. The ones I knew growing up have all been stocked with loads of little carp and ruined forever.

Float fishing sweetcorn at some pretty little pond catching roach, rudd, and the occasional small tench and crucian, I can't think of a nicer way to spend a day :)

Can't we club together and buy an Anglers Net lake, somewhere near Oxford sounds sensible B)

  10. Cheers guys

I've never really been away from AN , always read it eve since joining many years ago. Always been great info here and the members too of course, particular thanks to budgie and chavender who ive met along with budgie's brother Andrew and Steve Burke and to the late Argyll who I teamed up with on the itchen on one of the AN fish ins.

  11. Sort of 1 but mainly 4. I do like to come away with a fish for my troubles, and My favourite venues have always been when they are free, not because of being a stingy git but the knowledge that free venues are much more few and far between. I don't give a monkeys how big the fish are, if I caught gudgeon and minnows all day I'd be over the moon, but i'd prefer a few species being caught - always nice to come away with a varied catch.

What has crossed my mind is to try for more species and to get a picture of them

    Barbel/zander/eel (never caught)

    Pike/grayling (caught but no photo)

    Fly fishing for trout

    Spinning for perch

All of the above is me in a nutshell :)

  12. I know a thread was on here in the past about unused old tackle. I think someone mentioned a charity type thing to send unused tackle to. I have an Okuma baitrunner reel doing not much now and probably a few other bits so I'd like it to be of use to someone else.

I'm finally all sorted in my new house and joined a small local club last week which has a nice little pond and another tiny pond next to it along with a little stretch of the River Leen (I'm in Hucknall, Notts now)

Also got the Erewash that Chavender kindly showed me back in 2009 that I'm keen to give a try.

Will try and do some little reports once I'm out and about again :)

  13. Excellent :)

I've been away from the forum for a long time again but I hope to start some fishing again soon, I'm moving up to between Nottingham and Mansfield ( to Hucknall) and my aim is to get on the bank before the end of the month :)
