  1. havn't had a decent sausage for ages since the only butcher in town closed :angry: and most of the supermarket ones make me want to :yucky:

    has anyone got any good recipes ? going to get me a sausage machine and start experimenting I think :thumbs:

  2. Why do we celebrate the torture, dismemberment and burning of Catholics? What other group would tolerate this?

    and whats wrong with that ??? after all roman catholics should all be in rome shouldn't they ? burn all followers of religeous cults i say.....I'll quite happily light the fire :P:P . bet a pope and a few archbishops would burn for days :lol::lol:

  3. I was reading this thread with quite a lot of interest and decided to look it up a bit more, there is quite a lot on the net about this problem. I catch the odd bass but not very many, so you could say I was not too bothered about the results as it doesn't particulally affect me. However, some of the things said by the fishermens representtative got me thinking.

    Is he (Barry Deas) giving an ultimatum to the minister by saying that if you want the two groups to sit down in the future you'd better not go against us?

    or was he saying;

    If you don't increase the size limit on bass and we'll be open to talking to anglers in the future and will not threaten or carry out our threats to increase discards of bass by fishing areas inshore were small bass are (Fishing news).

    Certainly his comment seems to be an instruction to all fishermen, if this goes against us this will be our repsoonse, clear and unequivocal division between commercial fishermen and sea anglers.

    Either way just what is he offering (apart from the obvious ultimatum and veiled threat), I will be interested to see how the minister reacts to these threats.

    Reading further in this thread, I wonder why anglers would want to sit down with the likes of Mr Good with his derisory remarks, certainly nothing will be gained by talking to a man who's contribution to a discussion is to call people hes never met names. Perhaps a cull on the French fleet and French fishermen should be followed by a wholesale slaughter of seals and dolphins (thats in addition to those killed in the pair trawl fishery and the gillnet fishery - of which it would appear Mr Good is already involved), then they could turn their attention to the anglers. With no further competition the fishing industry would be left to use the bass stocks in its usual sustainable manner. Presumably followed by a request to DEFRA some years further down the line for a reduction in the size limit to 32cm.

    Is his problem the fact that the French are catching his bass as well as the anglers, not to mention the odd seal and dolphin that will eat his bass. It seems that the problem is not so much a conservatuion issue, but more of an us versus them issue. The US being UK fishermen and the THEM being everyone and everything else.

    So Far we,ve seen threats of not speaking to other groups (anglers), mass destruction of bass populations inshore (willingness to show the public by dumping 1000's of discarded bass), claims that the French will flood the english market with small bass (how twill this compare to the already huge amount of small bass from greece and Italy?), and the wholesale destruction of the english fishing industry (is it in such a poor state that a 4cm increase in one species will lead to the loss of the majority of english vessels).

    Finally why does Mr Good think that we should pay him to change his gears to conserve the very species he is prosecuting, in my business when the DTI (BERR) or HSE tell me I am required to modify my machinery or vehicles, do I get this change paid for by government - NO, are there any funding opportunities availanble to help me with the change over (E.g. FIFG) - NO. Why then should Mr Good and his bretheren consider themselves to be so special. How many companies, individuals and or partnerships go out of business each year in the UK because they (i). Struggled to make money (ii). Struggled to compete (iii). Had no access to additional funding (iv). Were unable to adapt to a changing business (v). Ran out of resources

    Why is fishing so different and why do fishermen think they are a special case?

    well said that man :thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:

  4. Best bit was the last ten minutes or so after Jonny scored. The french were trying hard to break through but the team uk did not yeild, magic.

    "team uk" ?? whats that then i thought I was watching England :rolleyes:

  5. 17 gallons....... :headhurt::headhurt::headhurt::headhurt::headhurt:

    never tried making it myself but well remember the evil, throbbing head concoctions that my nan used to make. One particular vintage of elderberry resulted in a first and only overnight stay in the local nick :oops::oops:

  6. Never said there was a "lack" of bass Mr Gathergood, just a lack of sizable fish over 7-8lbs from the shore round here, sure theres a few come out every year over 10 but how many hours of effort from the beach will it take to catch one ? :yawn:

    As you've stated on here many times on here that the "housewife" demands plate size fish did you put the bigguns back ? :P

  7. I assume Steve G has some commercial interest.

    He's one of the local ones Ada, Pompey i believe.

    so far He has blamed everyone from the french to RSA's to the seals in the local harbours for the lack of sizable bass locally :yucky: but like the rest of his ilk refuses to take any blame himself coz it's his "livelyhood"..........how many more feckin times do we have to hear his shite :wallbash:

    Nice letter there Barry, can't wait for the response :rolleyes:

  8. Our London correspondent reports that, in light of recent terrorist

    threats, the British authorities have raised their security level from

    "Miffed" to "Peeved"

    It would appear that security levels may be raised yet again to

    "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross". Londoners have not been "A Bit

    Cross" since the blitz in 1940 when tea supplies all but ran out. In

    the meantime terrorists have been re-categorised from "Tiresome" to "A

    Bloody Nuisance". The last time the British issued a "Bloody Nuisance"

    warning was during the great fire of 1666.

    In France the French authorities also announced that it had raised its

    terror level from "Run" to "Hide". The only two higher levels in

    France are "Surrender" and "Collaborate". The rise was precipitated by

    a recent fire that destroyed France's only white flag factory,

    effectively paralysing the country's military capability.

    It's not only the French and English that are on a heightened level of

    alert. Italy has increased the alert level from "Shout Loudly and

    Excitedly" to "Elaborate Military Posturing". Two more levels remain:

    "Ineffective Combat Operations" and "Change Sides".

    Elsewhere in Europe Germany has increased it's alert from "Disdainful

    Arrogance" to "Dress In Uniform And Sing Marching Songs". They also

    have two higher levels: "Invade a Neighbour" and "Lose"

    Belgians, on the other hand, are all on holiday as usual and the only

    threat they have to worry about is NATO pulling out of Brussels.

    The Spanish are in a high state of excitement following the deployment

    of their new submarine fleet. These beautifully designed subs have

    glass bottoms so the new Spanish navy can get a good view of the old

    Spanish navy.

    Washington has announced that there will be no change to the strategy

    that has served the country so well over the last 100 years. A

    spokesperson confirmed that the guiding principles remained as "Sit on

    the fence until you know who is winning" followed by "Bomb the s***

    out of everything then find out who's side they were on".

    :clap::clap::clap::clap:

  9. laminate floors are absolutely fine for conservatorys so long as you leave a good 8-10mm expansion gap and put a vapour barrier (plastic DPM) beneath your underlay if laying on a concrete/screed floor and lap it up under the beading/skirting to protect the edges. you could also use a liquid DPM but to be honest the plastic sheet is more than adequate for a laminate and a damn sight cheaper.

    I'm a floor layer and I've fitted bloody hundreds of the damn things over the last fifteen years and have never had a problem.

  10. Stavey.

    Because of the massive amount of restrictions that commercial fishermen have been put under in recent years and the compulsory decommissioning and scraping of a massive part of the fleet, it means that so many fishermen have been forced to leave the industry.

    But we still have a fleet, we still have an industry. an industry that (despite all the restrictions that have been imposed on it) in certain sectors managed to break all grossing records in some of the areas (Peterhead, Aberdeen etc) that have been most effected by the ruthless restrictions that have been dealt out to this industry.

    Why is this do you think stavey? Do you think it might just be that a lot of commercial fishermen actually believe in there industry? Do you think it might just be that there enthusiasm that they have for there industry outshines the dark adversity that is constantly thrown in there direction?

    For RSA to say that they wont pay for the privilege to fish unless this government puts restrictions on commercial fishermen sounds so comical to commercial fishermen that it could only be dreamt up by people who want us all to become part of this mad bureaucratic mess that has been imposed on people who at the end of the day, simply like to catch fish.

    Regards.

    blahblahblahblahblah :wallbash::wallbash::wallbash:

    you really do spout some ******

  11. "whitefish vessels willing to accept automatic licence suspensions for breaches of the regulations will not have any cuts in days (at sea)"

    what the hells that about then ? surely if they are breaking the regulations then you just take away the licence altogether......or is that to simple ? :wallbash::wallbash::wallbash:
