  1. I dont see much wrong with spearfishing, At the end of the day, At least they are not totaly wiping out stocks of fish(it takes alot of skill catching anything via spear so i believe) and what they catch will e eaten,

As ive seen on this forum before"lets get our own house in order 1st" Ive witnesed anglers kill many more fish than in this picture which were all smaller and many undersised on many occasions,

I soppose 1 drawback of the spear is sizes, It would be hard 2 estimate a fish underwater i mean you couldnt exactly go up to a bas and measue it before shooting so i guess what is killed is killed which isnt so good,

Not for me though think ill stick to rod and line:) on the shore/decks of boat where its safe :):)

  2. HD Might this place you refer to be not a million miles from cockenzie??? ; ) It was totaly wiped bye lads who arrived from distant lands

Ive been told thers a few at a beach near me(living in edinburgh has its advantages i soppose) But nt if you want 2 catch fish tho

  3. Spot on winter,

Although i do not have the MFA now(now a petzl nightsearcher Some cn*nt stole the MFA!) Ide much prefer the MFAs for those 2 reasons above, Main beam is superb, But the LED is every bit as handy an if all else fails that LED will get you off the rocks! wassit 60-70 80 quid topps aswell, Superb

  4. Hi Folks,

Ive just been tipped off where i ave a good suply of razors close at hand,

The guy i was speaking to told me how 2 get them but i didnt quite understand him

He said something about "salting" for them. ANy body know how exactly to get them,

All i understood was that you walk, and you see them spurting water out a hole, then you sprinkle salt over the burrow and they pop up, Can some1 explain hpow its done, I need at least some fresh bait for winter since my makkies got ruined :)

So many good things going on its hard to take it all in, Ide seen the goldens before but was a 1st for the peragrines, Awesome!

  7. WoW the rooms moving from side to side, up and down, Seasikness when on dryland, Kewl :D

Anyways thats quite a few PBs,

My biggest shore fish/conger, Bigest boat conger, Norries biggest male skate, Nicks biggest skate...

    Superb :D

  8. Lochaline ofcoarce.....

Me, Norrie and Nick went up/down 2 meet Davy and Albert to meet some of davys pets, Weekend started out on friday in the social, great company as always iun there, Then saterday mornin tried for tope after a makarell bash(me useless while Albert and norrie got loads) but no such luck with the tope, i managed to pick off a few doggies and a 1lb conger and a 7lb conger which was fun on the realy light gear,

With a few congers well and truly robbing the skate baits davy asked if i was up for trying to get a shore conger, I was well up for that as was Norrie, Ive been totaly smashed up by eels 2ce from shore this year so was hoping to get it 3rd time lucky, I know davy had had big congers here over the past few weeks but i wasnt confident at start, I mean 2 ft of water, During the day over clean ground about 1ft out from a pier.. but i trusted Davy and went for it with big makkie flappers, After 10 15 mins or so my rod arched and the ratchet went,In shock i walked down the steps let it swim off for a second then struck and held on, With no more than 6ft of line from me and a very pi**ed of conger which is fresh i absolutely cr*ped it, An the lads told me my face was somewhat of a picture...and also i subconsiosly let of some censored language as it was thrashing like mad and headshaking just below me, But we managed to guide it onto the slip, Pictures, wieghed then realesed an i was over the moon... :D It wieghed 13.5lb, Happens 2 Be my 1st double figure fish from shore so to say i was chuffed was an understatement, Next norries rod went but it spat the bait at the last minute...Nick then arrived and we pottered about in the loch and me and Davy batered out a few doggies each with norrie gettin another makarel...

Next day an early start and we headed to try an get a few skate, Real early on one of the rods folded over, and as Norrie was cooking, And Nick&Albert fast on the food scent in the cabbin, I took up Davys offer of taking this one to try and improve my previos PB of 85lb, I lifted it off the bottom within a minute and pumped it up and it was apparent tht it was small but i was still delighted with it, got it in quite quikly(although it still managed 2 implode my kidneys) Photo, tagg and realeased the wee Feramale skate, in perfect nick of 19.5lb, We proceded to et into a few nice congers, Davy getting a cracker of 25lb, Nick getting a 12 and me dropping one a tt he side which may of been just shy of 15lb,

Then Norries rod nodded and he was right into a cracking male skate which beat him up good, Was a cracker of +120lb(Cant remember exact wieght) Nick then got innto a decent skate which gave im a good battle which turned out to be a beutifull untagged female of 180lb(ish again cant remember  )

Inbetween all this i braught a few spurries up to and more doggies,

What a cracking weekend, Forgive my spelling cos i can tell you im totaly shatered and still smiling after a superb weekend,

Thanks a million to Davy who worked so hard to get us al fish,

We all had a great laugh with as usual superb company, superb fishing/scenery, Cant be beat,

A well known journalist from fife once wrote about the Lochaline experience with davy and described it as"Its the place and hes the man"

    Cannt put it better meself...

Ofcoarce piccies will follow shortly, we all got some crackers with one in particularly funny of a angry seagull who left its mark on nick...And ofcoarce all the fish piccs...

    Yahoooooooo :D:D:D

  9. I have no reason to doubt the theory that makkies die after bieng touched, and i quite believe it,

I caught a mackarel last month that was half skinned on one side and some rather big teetth marks to boot, was a real mess but yet it was a healing wound and hadnt happened within the day or 2 anyway, and it seemed happy feeding, Maybe it is just human hands that effect them, but there natural predators skin like seals or sharks wouldnt effct them as much(provided they escape)

  10. Sure thing peter,

Its actualy just a few miles past dunbar, Not to far from edinburgh, Ide be up for a trip anytime, I find it strange there, about half the time i go i catch fish the other none, so theres no promises on the fishing front but we can try, But you can bet if thers a shoal in your in for some fun on light tackle, Ive even been catching quite a few on the fly lately which has been great fun... October last year was great and tyhere where loads about...

    Shaun

  11. Leon,

The local power station i fish is in the south east scotland not too far from edinburgh, I have caught plenty schoolies there and a good few at 4 and 5 inches, (as well as the odd bigger one at 2,3 and biggest a sniff away from 4lb

My question to you is how long would it take a basss 2 get to 4 or 5 inches??? IF not long(now i dont know how long they can drift in there planktonic stage) would this not mean that they are spawining somewhere in the north sea also??? considering torness powerstaition is quite far north? Random i know but im quite interested in it, There can be loooaads of bass here at times most are sensible and release them but there are sadly a few that ake 30 40 bass each(including the 4 5 inch ones!!! hmm i soppose is theer anyone to contact to inform when i see this hapin again???

  12. Norrie:

the price suddenly went from £99.99 to £140,(this was for the Waders only)when he said they were advertised at £99.99, he was told by the salesman, and I quote, he was talking mince..........

HEHEHEHE Norrie that has got me rolling about laughing ,havent they had complaints about this i mean about everone ive spoken too has had the same done with there so called deals at GAC Inclusing me rather annoying,

Wish i had known Paul young and john wilson where there ide of gotten the train through :D

  13. Ohh i forgot to mension, I found the rigs that have to be tensioned perfectly ok but i now make 75% of my clipped rigs differently, Using varios types of rig clips like relay clips by breakaway and making a stopknot with silicone tubing it tensions the rig perfectly with room fer error,

    Shaun

  14. I had this problem also when starting off making clipped rigs, I soon found it very hard to get the tension just right.....So what i done is clipped a lead on the bottom, and my top swivel was hung from mmr tripod trace bar which was above me on my bunkbedd,

This gives you a tight rig body so you can have hands free to get the snood tension just right, Tie on the hooklleghnths BEFORE you crimp anything, Then clip the bottom hook down, slide up the crimps/beads/swivel ect till the snood tension is perfect then crimp it, same with the next snood and so on so on...

I found it made my rigs much more accurate, and quiker to uild...

(please tell me whats a jig ???)

    Shaun :)
