  1. I've never had a problem with handles on a centrepin, the only time they come into play is when you hook a fish, I retrieve by 'batting' the reel. I have tried without handles, but prefer the control they give when playing a large fish. Maybe trying to hold the rod a bit differently would help Tigger.

failing that, go on a diet.

  2. I have a fascination for knives :) and have quite a few. I walked around the Lake District one winter with my mate and my dog (No! she stayed at home  ) for a week. As we walked, I whittled away at a small branch which produced a bird figure, didnt realise I could make such a thing.

I kept it for years until some slimeball pinched it out of the garden. :( I always carry a multitool in my work bag which has come in handy for doing odd jobs, saving the company 35p. :sun: Every country/island I visit, the first things on my mind are fishing tackle and knives. I've passed the halfway mark in life and feel I've missed my true vocation ( devil hunter  ).

Comes in handy when she orders me to peel the spuds. :)

  3. Thanks for your kind wishes....

Casey, I assumed you were talking about one of the other AN guys who have their birthday today!

The words 'Alan Stubbs' and sense aren't often used in positive conjunction!

Elton, you share your birthday with Bernadette, my social secretary, and rapidly becoming a quality silver fish anglerette. Be honoured mate.

As for my day... well, I am down in Kent and my son and daughter are coming over in an hour to take their 'elderly relative' - their words- down to the Oyster bar in Whitstable for lunch.

Thanks again, and have a great day all of you.

My sincere apologies Alan, I meant to prefix the word NON. :(

  4. A boy goes and buys a fishing pole that is 6' 3" long. As he goes to get on the bus, the bus driver tells him that he can't take anything on the bus longer than 6'. The boy goes back to town, buys one more thing, and the bus driver allows him on the bus. What did he buy, and what did he do with it?

He bought himself a hacksaw and cut 3" off the pole. :)

Dont tell me I'm wrong if you have to rephrase the question.

  5. I too am very saddened by this thread which I have only just come across, I never click on the topics above until this morning. My heart goes out to all John's family and to John who had suffered so much, my father travelled down that busy road. :(

    Cherish the past

    r.i.p. John.

  6. We had a lovely Irish Terrier about eight years ago who ended up with anaemia at 5 years of age which ended her life.

We first noticed something was wrong when she came running in from the garden and suddenly became very unsteady on her feet, after a long rest she would be fine but it soon deteriorated and we had to have her put down.

No more dogs for us after our brilliant tempered Foxy. :(

  7. Jeeps,

I too have owned a BSA Meteor .22 for over 20 years now, given to me by my brother-in-law, I put an Ox main spring in and regularly cleaned it. Shot hundreds of rats up to 25 yds, I hadnt used it for about three years and last week my son came down to borrow it, I told him the sight might need adjusting.

Wrong! it was spot on and it's been ill treated in our move to a new house, so that speaks volumes. ;)

  8. LOL, more testosterone and class biased ranting here I see!

NOT ONE OF YOU has actually made an honest suggestion of how we stop these stories appearing in the papers on an all too frequent basis.

A do gooder is someone who tries (often unsuccessfully I grant you) to find an answer to that question.

The opposite of a do gooder is someone like casey or kempo who thinks taking the bottle and ramming it down some yobbos throat will actually change something. All it actually does is takes you a step further down the ladder toward the yobbos level.

Twice you have wrongly accused me of physical abuse, you are truely an orifice of the lower region. I dont want this to turn into a slanging match but you persist in slating me for words I have not typed, my final words on this subject as I may be seen to be the bad boy. :)

  9. Hi all

i agree with afew statments etc(merlino bill)but TBH this sort of warped behaviour starts in school, its peer pressure to be cool as its always been but this is just a sick low level to drop to.

good kids go to school and almost straight away they come face to face with these type of kids, you know the council sponging type who`s parents are too **** or wasted to care where the brats have gone.

and to blend in you hang with these type just to avoid bullying by them and kids end up going to the local rec and getting **** on hooch and hanging from trees in some vain attempt to impress some chav girl you know is an easy lay.

most of us has been there and some who havn`t but the problem is schools are not as they once where.

i dont say i know what the solution is but its where it starts schools and the schools lack of control over students bent to spoil it for everyone else.

iq tests to determine what type of school you require

i.e in bordon they have just that type(one for the really dense and one for normal iq children.

may sound harsh but its actually working in the dense kids favour as they get all the help they need to even come close to getting into higher education.

    kerfew maybe or more cameras

all i can say is if i had caught them id have hung them naked from a tree branch upside down with sugar water poured on them and then get some nasty ants to tickle them, after an hour you phone the cops and tell them where they are.

    or leave it all night:):)

nice thought bnw hope it makes someone remember something to nick these no good wasters.

my opinons do gooders or no do gooders this stuff is sick at least when shooting i am humane(1 shot one kill and all that)but never a cat or dog unless the dog attacked anyway.

fine the dole money as said that will make the sponging parents etc raise an eye.

Billy, you're gonna upset the ones who are devoted to the promotion of human welfare and their social reform back to the community no matter what their vile crime may be.

Someone comes along, shoots my dog, rapes my 8yr old daughter and suffocates the life out of my wife. Lo and behold! " THIS MAN REPENTSSSSS! HE IS SORRY FOR HIS DASTARDLY DEEDS, HE CAN BE SAVED"

    bollllixxx!!!!!!!!! :schmoll:
