  1. Either, but Inverbervie sounds like a plan. If the three of us are going can we manage in one car?
  2. Sounds good, is that on Sunday? Last week's boat trip was cancelled (as was the one before I think) Mike
  3. The forecast is for moderate easterlies. I'd like to try fishing for codling or cod from rock marks, but I know it's not safe to do so by myself. Anyone interested, or know any marks that I'll be sure to find other people fishing?
  4. Norrie, I ended up fishing on Saturday (3 undersize school bass and 2 eels , from a new mark east a bit from Culross) so went to the shop on Sunday. I was there at about 10 in the morning and it was pretty quiet. I didn't see any of the big names but I was a quite focussed. I bought the Fladen Expert 2-piece floatation suit, mainly because it was the only 2 piece in the right size. Mind there must be some very big anglers about. I normally get extra large, but I ended up with a medium. Even then the jacket is a bit too big. My wife was waiting outside and having spent £100, I thought better of browsing around for other stuff. The shop is certainly impressive. I'll be back there.
  5. Thanks for that, I'll look carefully. I remember from capsizing a Wayfarer dinghy how difficult it can be to get back in the boat!
  6. again I'll see what they have and what will fit. WHen shore fishing do many of you wear a self inflating lifejacket, or do you jsut rely on a floatation suit and perhaps a lifeline?
  7. Thanks for that. I'd heard that the shop prices were often different to their web-site prices. I need to have the suit by the end of next week, so I might have to take the hit anyway. And I'll need to try them on. I'll take prints from a few web sites and haggle
  8. Thanks everyone. I'll go for one of the Fladen two piece ones. I'm sure the two piece will (be more flatter....) hide my gut better
  9. I'm off to the grand opening of the new Glasgow Angling Centre shop on Saturday hoping to get a good deal on a floatation suit. They have suits by Shakespeare, Fladen and Sunridge. Price doesn't give much to go on so I thought I'd ask: Which make do you prefer (I'm about 15.5 stone, so I'm thinking the extra bouyancy of the Fladen suits might be good). One piece or two piece? Ta, Mike
  10. Seems there are plenty of guys that go and feed it too
  11. Despite the warnings from Dougie I went to Burntisland pier last night. A bit more success than recent outings. I caught a very small coalie and then hooked a nice mackerel. Suddenly when bringing it in the resistance increased dramatically. The seal had grabbed my fish The seal then surfaced, turned towards the pier with my fish in its mouth, as if to say thanks, and then ate it. I didn't catch any more, but the seal had three more mackerel caught for it in the space of an hour.
  12. quote: If anyone fancies a Scottish shore fishin meet up anytimes gives a shout quote: Certainly up for that if something can get sorted. Based in Edinburgh and not long started shore fishing so a meet up would hopefully address my lack of 'local' knowledge Me too, I'm based in Limekilns, near Dunfermline.
  13. Hi Dougie, can you suggest some places for me to fish around the Forth. I'm very much a newcomer to sea fishing and trying for some first successes.
  14. I was obviously in the wrong place again. Blanked at North Queensferry. Maybe that's why no one else was fishing there...
  15. I've still got to find them! I think the new stuff is better. I'm fairly sure I wound it on the spool correctly, it was just the springyness. I'll find out on Sunday...
  16. Yes it's fixed spool. I replaced the shock leader last night with a different make. I think it'll be OK now. The problem was memory in the line, it just wanted to be a larger diameter than the spool. Slightest lack of care with the bail arm open and four or five loops would just fall off. I also got a few 5oz weights, I'd been trying with 4oz. Hopefully the 5oz wil make it a bit easier to load the rod. I've got to do family things on Saturday, but Sunday I'm hoping to dig some bait at Crombie and try again at North Queensferry. I discovered that the main place to fish is right under the road bridge. Do you know if I'll just get Lug at Crombie or if there are also rag worms? Mike
  17. Where is the fishing at North Queensferry? I went there last night for a bit of casting practice with my new beachcaster rod. I turned right going in to the village and parked underneath the Forth Road bridge. The tide was very high and I couldn't work out where to try. In the end I cast from next to a slipway towards a green channel bouy, but it was a bit snaggy. As the tide dropped a small pebble beach appeared near to the hotel, so I tried there. As for the casting... Well a lot of practice is needed I think. And I need to do something about the shock leader, which seemed to want to fall off the reel just when I don't want it to. Mike
  18. Kenny, I wonder if I get restricted from my garden. It's getting quite muddy I went along to Burntisland after work yesterday. I'd been told that mackerel could be caught there and to watch out for the seal that would try to steal fish off the line. Just as I arrived one guy landed a nice sized mackerel so I was hopeful. The seal was there patrolling off the east harbour wall. After about an hour the seal got bored and went off to find some better fishermen. Four of us where fishing with feathers and the only thing caught was a sand eel that went for one guy's feathers. Must of been almost as big as the feather!
  19. Well I got started I found the mark near the power station west of Culross on Saturday. 4 teenagers where fishing, but with no sucess, 4 other guys turned up as the tide came in. Eventually one of them caught a small bass. I might have had a knock on a spoon, but not really sure. On Sunday I went back in the evening and fished from about 6pm to 8.30pm. On my own. There was quite a strong Easterly blowing, so I thought there'd be a few people there, but I was on my own. Perhaps there are better places to fish an evening tide in an Easterly... Anyway I caught a bass, an undersized one, but a start anyway. Caught on white feathers with a red head. I'd tried a jelly sandeel, a spoon and a spinner before the feathers.
  20. When do you meet? I don't mind driving a bit to get some fishing. I'll also try a couple of the clubs on the list near here. Thanks Mike
  21. Hi, I've done a bit of fly fishing for trout, but would like to try sea fishing. Are there any sea fishing clubs in the Dunfermline area that could help a 47-year old kid get started? Or anyone here? Ta, Mike
