  1. At the end of April, I will be heading up to the far north for a week on Stornaway, followed by a week in Thurso. Can anyone recommend any good marks for shore fishing in either location?
  2. Fished 10am - 3pm (Tide was aprox 12.30). Weather warm with little breeze and no rain. 5 of us fished and all caught 1 - 3 flatties each good size of aprox 2kg, mostly coming to fresh rag and lug once the tide was running. We fished on the car park section, but aprox 10 others fishing further down. They had similar results aside from one brave soul who had been there from 5am who had a small sea trout too. Think we need a good cold spell before the flounders come in force.
  3. Hi soleman. If you fancy digging your own bait, try for creeper (small harbour rag) which is easy to dig at Condor Green near Glasson Dock. Arnside flatties love it!. Otherwise black and rag will do you just as well. Local lads also do well with spoons, but Ive never tried them there. My fave 3 venues at Arnside are next to railway viaduct, from the beach at the seaward end of town or from White Creek, which is about a mile "downstream" of Arnside itself. Flatty / flapper rigs work very well and tackle losses are few as most spots have you casting onto sand. 4oz should be enough. I tend to fish 1 hour up and 3 hours down the high tide. Speaking of the tide. Watch your back if you are setting up at low tide. The water sneaks up around you and you can quickly be cut off. also don't stray too far out into morecambe bay as it is notorious for the shifting areas of quicksand. If you fancy a clean and tidy alternative venue, try Greenodd across the bay. You can fish more or less from the car park and the above methods are just as productive there. One final point. If you plan on fishing a big tide, watch out for the bore. Its very powerful and you wont hold bottom for about 20 mins, but all the fish follow it in. Hope it helps. Sowie
  4. Hi We're planning a weekend boat fishing in Ireland for May 2005. We can get cheap flights from Blackpool to Dublin, but need some advice picking a skipper who is based nr Dublin who will also be able to provide some decent tackle (we plan to travel light). Also any advice regarding good B+Bs, etc would be appreciated.
  5. Hi all We have a couple of free spaces on a boat sailing from Barrow in Furness on Sunday 10th October. Anchors away at 8am, back at 6pm. If anyone fancies making up numbers, drop me a line. Also we can possibly squeeze you into a car to share petrol costs if you are, like us, in the Preston area. Clean boat, real toilet, free tea and coffee, lunch and an experienced skipper
  6. Cheers for that Paul. Just waiting for a bit of daylight and I'm heading down there this morning....Weather is sounding dreadful though. I'll let you know how I do. Sowie
  7. A bunch of us have booked a boat from Barrow in Mid October. The skipper will take us to (supposedly) good marks for early winter codling, but I was wondering if anyone has any local knowlege or info they could pass on. If it helps, we're on "The Raven" from Roa Island (nr Barrow in Furness) and have a 10 hour trip booked (weather permitting) Sowie
  8. Anyone fished the Ribble near Tickled Trout recently? Planning a day there soon, but wondered if much coming out? Any tips on baiths, methods? Planned to use feeder and hallibut pellet for barbel / chub.....unless you know of something better sowie
