  2. Any one know What the fishing is like from a boat out of plymouth? Whats the breakwater like and what kinds a rigs work well? Any help would be great, looking for a little conger action.
  3. Yeh newt ive already decided next time i travel out to florida im gunna just book flight and leave accomadation o i can move if need be. We still caught and i hooked some nice fish but lost them due to my inexperience. As we left the fish moved back in as the red tide was blown offshore!!!
  4. Went out for my dream fishing in florida and the red tide destroyed the dream somewhat!! Although i managed to get in amongst the fish in my last days out there, snagging one 7lb red which had the heart of a salmon and the speed to match! this algae bloom which they call the red tide totally wiped out the fish in the area and it was heart breaking to see. I walked down the beach and there was thousands of dead fish on the beach, and i am not making this up. I will be fishing florida again someday but NEVER in an area that can be affected by red tide,It was heartbreking to see.
  5. Fished slapton few days ago, tried scratching rigs and everything i had in my tackle box,not a nibble. Threw feathers out till my hands had bled, not a bite. went to pub in torcross supped a pint and watched other hpoefuls throw there leads out to horizon in desperation...and then the mackerel came in. one man had a double shot....then they were gone! where have all the other fish gone?
  6. calm down guys leave the fighting in the boxing ring? No one needs to throw insults at each other were fisherman together, not fools apart. My mum and assorted family went on expensive boat out from florida with a good skipper and were treated like children! Mark my mums bloke has over 25years experience of fishing and wasn't allowed to strike into fish! What do i say, Tell the bloody skipper you want that fecking rod or your money or home we go!!!
  7. I read Roger Bayzands bit when he was out in florida and he fished a party boat.It sounded a bit of a nightmare,BUT for 30 dollars, yes 30 dollars you get a chance to fish for some good species, and take your chance. Well....30 dollars....to fish on a boat....30 dollars...ah sh*t i changed my mind count me in!!
  8. Every person who fishes the sea will at some point kill and eat there catch, read any uk report and you will get similar. And why not? you pay for it on the supermarket freezer?!! why not get some deserts from all that money you put into that rod, boat or trip.Although i really only fish for sport i see the point,to an extent of course.I agree with Salar my family have been stung by the 'pass the rod skipper once hooked'makes you feel like a kid,not good sport.
  9. Don't fish the piers!! they are like magnets for all sorts of mongrels who have nothing better to do than try and test a mans patience!! And once they've finished that they start on the fish!! Yes i have not cught much lately so i just thought i'd jump on and have a bitch! i feel much better thankyou
  10. I've read the threads on them websites.......thats not a regular thing is it!! Would it be wise for me to do this from the beach if people(i.e me!) might be swimming in there at some point. And is it allowed blindhog. again cheers mate if ever you come to plymouth drop let me know and i find someone who can show you what the fishing can be like down here(not me i can't catch sh** from the shore but blody dogfish!!)
  11. You said not to hook shrimp in tail? In Australia I fished a lot and they did hook live shrimp in tail, and do similar with back to back shrimp. What i found was i had a lot of bit offs wherby head was taken and tail left. So i changed to nicking them as you say above the brain of shrimp and had more hook ups!! but as you say on cast i lost a few. Finally do shark come in close to beach? i was gunna chum about 10 yards out and fish into dusk. Cheers
  12. Thanks blindhog for all your advice,it's given me confidence that only good advice can. I posted a similar thread on captain mels website before this one and the responce was luke warm! one reply!! but after you letting me know that you guys are not really into in stingray fishing and it seems shark fishing then that explains a lot. I suppose when there are so many it does not pose as much of a challenge. By the way there is a flaurocarbon reel line its made by Berkley and called Vanish,i've used it for carp fishing and love it,give it a look. I just can't thank you ebuff and i will let you know how it goes, after this reply is just a couplemore questions!! If thats ok
  13. blindhog as usual on this site there is someone who can provide the answers to my questions. Snook fishing is something i'll definatley be there doing as i've heard there terrific sport. Could i pick tour brains some more? I'll be taking a 7ft spinning rod with with a small shimano bait runner and will be using 1olb flourocarbon for line,do you think this ok set up.Lures well you answered that one so thats out the way!! ould i ask what you think of wading the mudflats and casting for snook and redfish? is it safe this time of year and how would you approach this? I'm gunna check out the websites you posted but could you let me know what spinning rod you would recommend i buy, reason for this is mine is acheap spinner and i've been planning to buy a spinning rod from america since i decided to fish out there. Finally!! shark fishing? any idea's is it actually possible?
  14. Now i know i had some good info on this a while back but i've got 2 weeks to i go and i'm still looking for advice! Man i've spent hours, nay fecking days sifting thru website after website, forum after forum and although i've got some good advice i feel i could get more! Got persauded into buying a shimano exage 3lb tc travel rod and 20-30lb boat rod for my trip plus assorted other gear.Am gunna buy rest of gear over there. Found out about piers, what to use for that type of fishing BUT i really want to fish from the shore ,where i can have space and silence.Does that sound bad?!!! Have not found any info on shore fishing only light gear spinning for snook etc. Can anyone tell me how to fish for stingray, tarpon, shark from shore and pier? baits tactics rods etc Would like to concentrate my evening fishing on this and first light.PLEASE someone help me.
  15. Cheers, Salar have been looking through google but its slow going!!! there is soo much. Timmy i am bringing out a beach caster 4 piece and abu multiplier but will buy spinning rod out there as looked at quite a few web sites and the gear over there is cheep and very good quality. If i could pick your brains a bit more tim wat rigs and gear do you u use over there to hook up to these fish? would be interested to know want to do my homework before i go.
  16. Will be fishing in florida in june and wondered if anyone had been there and what they could tell me about the fishing. Will be fishing on and around Anna Maria island anyone fished there, what rigs reels, rods and lines used etc Any help would be good.
  17. Anyone read the article about using diffrent baits in the anglers mail recently on the sea fishing section by Mike Thrussell? I've always been one to try out something a bit diffrent in the belief it gives me an edge (doesn't happen often though!) so when i read this it spun me out. I have similar stuff in the fridge that i'm thinking of using for me sea fishing, crab sticks being one of them. Anyone out there tried these or the other baits he mentioned and whats there take on it?
  18. Thinking of fishing a couple of spots on the river tamar, wondered if anyone could give me a few tips, u know rod type, lead, bait, rigs. Any help be great.
  19. Well i'll definatly be there as soon as the weather starts to warm! is it feb when it reopens as i thought it closed for a couple of months. Thanks for the advice and nutshell yes you can fish the left hand bank and roubd the back of the island just not the dam. They do have some nice tench in the top lake and carp but have put a LOT of small carp into the lake and this has spoiled it somewhat. Can still get them off the top up there though i've had a couple of doubles and my brother had a low double at end of last summer. Finally mikeyp what time of year is best, as am thinling of at least getting a couple of weekends in next month and maybe couple of days in week.
  20. It seems that most people prefer the right hand bank mikeyp although getting a peg there is hard as you say it's always busy. Would you fish slack lines? ive seen some people fish with backleads but have tried this and it didnt seem to help.
  21. Want to know the best way to deal with heavily pressured lake? any ideas welcome, be fishing the lake in march. 2 acres with very big head of carp tried some methods,PVA,heavy baiting, surface fishing,to snags, close in,islands etc but no luck. If antone could help be great.
  22. Who out there uses braid? just got meself a abu 6500 for xmas and loaded it up with 18lb braid. Will be looking to use a tapered mono leader and just wondered what the best knots were to use for tying leaders to braid. Used standard knot as i would for mono to mono and after a dozen casts had a crack off,any ideas welcome. Also does anyone think braid better than mono?
  23. Looking to buy a new bivvie round feb, don't know what one to buy as there are so many on the market?!!! Any ideas looking to pay 200
  24. Rob i think thats the point,i do go to catch and always want to do better. It drives me and has helped me spot and catch some carp i think i would have missed. That said its a two edged sword and can lead me to distraction which is why i can't last more than two nites!!! I love fishing to the point where it becomes a obsession.Maybe i need to not worry soo much!
  25. I use slack lines a lot now and think that stops carp coming across tight lines and spooking, any thoughts on this?
