  1. Jason - As you said that your friend got a bit of engineering background - well could make your own main frame? Then the mudfeet might able to help out - mine is fitted with 6 mudfeet - two for the front foot plate, and 4 for the box.

If I get an chance this week (as working full time carer) I will post some pictures up for you to give you an rough idea. Brilliant Andrew, many thanks.

  2. Thanks for replies. I think the chair he's got at the moment is the Nash, it takes the weight ok but he thinks a box would be better.

He's got an engineering background, so modifying or strengthening one could well be an option. Do the mudfeet still work at these weights? Perhaps his best bet is to go down to his nearest tackle shop and try some out. Thanks again for replies.

  3. That depends on what type of fishing your friend is doing! I mean is he into Match/Pole fishing? Pleasure fishing? He'll be mainly on the method feeder and margin pole. He's got a nice chair, but he finds it difficult to get in and out of!

  4. Well they persisted. Yesterday I bought an oven to replace the one that I ruined a year ago (used the wrong cleaner) and a new hoover, then I jetwashed the patio in preparation for the Spring BBQ season. Today I made inroads in clearing brambles and overgrown trees at the back of the garden, would've carried on into the evening if I could've got the bloody fire to light.

It felt pretty good having a break, might continue domestic activities this weekend.

    Oh dear, I'm so sorry :o :o

  5. Two good sessions the last couple of weekends at a local commercial. Roach a chuck up to about 8oz and several Carp up to around 8lb. I know a lot of people don't regard commercials as proper fishing but I enjoyed it.

Don't know about this weekend. Temp down to minus 3 this morning :o

  6. I used to work with a mole killer and would pick literally a couple of gallons of worm a day walking behind a plough (you've got to be quick cos they diasappear pretty quickly, or the seagulls have them). On occasions when there was no ploughing around we'd fill a 45gallon drum with water. add about a litre of formalin (from farmers co-op) and up-end it on an area of grass. After a while (could be up to 20mins) the worms came up in large numbers. These were washed dried and kept in soil. The secret is to really flood the area and be patient.

  7. That explains something I hadn't realised. We'd kept some bread and milk in my bait fridge freezer in an outbuilding which we used as an overflow over Christmas. Some of the bread had gone off, so I suppose the minus 17c we had must have stopped it and not started again until it got back up to a high enough temp for it to kick in again, and during that time it had defrosted for a few days. Luckily it must be an older type, cos it seems to be OK now.

(even more luckily, no bait was harmed :) )

  8. Another example of Conservatives selling off the family jewels. Thatcher tried it but had to bow to public opinion. It appears that buying and selling forestry is free of capital gains tax, so all those Tory millionaires will have another tax loophole to wriggle through. What's even more disturbing is that our forests will probably end up owned by foreign companies. What could be more fundamentally British than our forests? I find it totally disgraceful, but we should not be surprised. This is what Tories do and we voted them in. Didn't we

  9. That's pretty scary Emma. Along with everyone else I hope you have a quick and complete recovery.

Thanks for highlighting the F.A.S.T procedure, you may well have saved a life at some time in the future. It just shows that some good can come from even the worst of situations.

  10. Like Budgie says, with temperatures as they are, we all struggle for a bite, so you're not necessarily doing anything wrong. Your methods will work in warmer weather. A couple of ideas. Scale down the tackle (lighter lines, smaller hooks and baits), don't feed too much. You'll be lucky to get a Tench until things warm up a bit. Maggots or chopped worm might be worth a try.

Most important, don't give up, keep trying and keep asking questions :)
