  1. Evening all, Our club has adopted the Teenage Cancer Trust. We have raised a grand for them so far. The young lady who came to Brighton from the TCT last weekend was not only beautiful, smart and dedicated but also a survivor of cancer at such a young age. A proper inspiration. Details at the link below. http://www.shorehamangling.co.uk/sas/news.htm Cheers SDC
  2. Perhaps we should start a club???
  3. Evening all, i know this is off topic but ive just came back from the hospital and have been given 100% all clear. Back to work to try and rescue my business and finances. Huzzah! A huge thanks to all the surgeons, doctors, practice and district nurses who looked after me over the last four months. Your worth your weight in gold. Also thanks to Chris Goddard off this list whose kindness restored my faith in people. Also a very well deserved two finger salute to the cretins at the benefits office who left me pennyless during my illness. The same salute goes to the taxman, Barclays bank and Woolwich mortgage company who were all collectively the most unhelpfull, rude and uncaring people / organisations I have ever had the misfortune to have to go begging to. Now thats off my chest, im going to celebrate. SDC

  6. Full details below. Thanks Im the number two organiser for the event. It has been running since 1996 in Brighton / Hove. It was originally for surfers to get sponsored to paddle round the West Pier. The event has grown in a big way and so has the amount we raise for our beneficiaries. The RNLI, The Rockinghorse Appeal (Local Kids Hospital) and Surfaid International. We get watersports and beach wear/equipment retailers to give us prize donations (in return for advertising). The the event participants get sponsored for their chosen event. For every £20 raised they get a raffle ticket. The draw is held on the last day of the paddle. To give you an idea of scale we gave away £12k worth of prizes to about 350 paddlers. We raised £12.5k in charitable funds raised which was split evenly between the three charities. This year for the first time the event will be over two days and a beach festival. To be inclusive of all beach sports i have invented the Paddle beach fishing open. Many prizes are donated by the fishing industry (Penn, Perception, WSF and growing). So a £10 entry fee to enter the comp with a trophy as a prize. Then raise as much sponsorship as possible to get those raffle tickets in. This will provide the chance to win the free yak and other prizes. £20 sponsorship = 1 raffle ticket same as the paddle. Comp to be held 1800-Midnight on Saturday 7th July on the beach by Hove Lawns. Winner is the angler who (from the beach) catches the greatest overall length of fish. We run a strict catch and release system. Security will be provided by Brighton & Hove City council. The prize draw will be at about 1600 on Sunday 8th July. Prizes presented by Fat Boy Slim and Zoe Ball. We are liasing with the Holiday Inn (opposite the venue) for cheap weekend accomodation for participants. They will also be donating 5% of any paddle bookings to the charity funds. I think thats most of the info but please have a look at www.paddleroundthepier.com for details about this year and some shots of last year. Cheers Sean
  7. PRIZE UPDATE: A fantastic gesture from the people at Penn. I now have here, two Penn 65 long beach reels and two 6'6"stand up rods. Superb brand spanking new kit ready for a couple of lucky winners. Cheers SDC

  11. Hello mate, the comp will be on the beach from Brighton's West Pier to the King Alfred on Saturday 7th July 6pm till midnight. Im still sorting details and hope to have something concrete as soon as the logos and other info is available. This is intended to be a very laid back affair and fun for everyone off all abilities. Im hoping that we will get enough prizes donated that every entrant will win something. As a prize update a couple of rig makers have rang and said they will be donating gear. Thanks for your interest SDC

  13. Interesting, i do wonder if these things are played down on purpose under instruction from on high.
  14. Morning all, Ive just had a phone call from a contact down at Chesil. The stranded containier ship down that neck of the woods has had much media coverage. Mostly about the hilarity of the whiskey galore mentality. What the news fails to mention is the the birds and marine life are being devastated by an oil slick and chemicals. The RSPB and RSPCA are desperate for volunteers to pop down there and help. So if your free this weekend please make the effort to get down and lend a hand. I intend to get some pictures and do my best to publicise the covered over natural disaster. Cheers SDC

  22. Hi everyone, I’m one of the anglers taking part in a 'fishathon' to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust. If you wouldn’t mind, please ring the phone number to donate a few pence to the cause. I will be doing my bit on the Shoreham West Arm, Sussex. If anyone is daft enough to brave the storms with me, please feel free to PM me. Event details below. “ALMOST LIVE FISHATHON” Members of the Shoreham Angling Squad will be fishing a 6 hour FISHATHON this Friday 19th from 6.00pm in aid of their supported charity. THE TEENAGE CANCER TRUST Charity Registration No: 1062559 Teams of anglers will be deploying along the coast from Bracklesham Bay to Eastbourne and have agreed to fish, irrespective of the weather, for 6 hours to raise funds for this charity. Teams will submit a report every 15 minutes which will be updated onto www.worldseafishing.com A dedicated charity phone line has been organised and each call will cost 75 pence, the majority of which goes to Teenage Cancer Trust. Nothing goes to the club. We need as much support as possible for a great cause. So please call, listen to the message and then hang up. 09069 560128 It is less than a 1/2 Pint. !!! Cheers Sean
  23. Appologies for this appearing twice. My mac browser crashed last night half way through submitting so i didnt think the original post worked.
  24. Afternoon all, as some of you know, Im one of the senior organisers for www.paddleroundthepier.com This years event will raise money for the RNLI, Rockinghorse Appeal (childrens hospital) and Surfaid International. It will be over the full weekend of 7th & 8th July. This years event is themed as a beach festival and i have persuaded the organisers that us lot as anglers should be included. My idea (still under progress and open to suggestions) is a fishing comp held in the evening of Saturday 7th here in Brighton. The angler pay's and entry donation of say £10 and also gets sponsored by friends and family. This is for a chance of winning the comp trophy. For each additional £20 raised in sponsorship the angler recieves a raffle ticket for a chance to win prizes donated by the local shops and fishing tackle industry. We use this format in the main paddle event and it works very well with twelve grands worth of prizes donated by surf and watersports shops and manufacturers. So, i need a few things to make this work, listed below. 1)Contacts for shops and industry who would donate prizes. (in return for advertising). If a shop or manufacturer came up with some serious goods then they could even have this section of the weekend named after them. 2)Someone competent to help organise and run the event. So if you can help with any of the above please email (sean@paddleroundthepier.com) or call me on 07917 410332 It would be great if we could all make this work, raise some donations and have a good laugh in the process. Many thanks Sean __________________
