    Doggies

The problem i had is that i was in the channel when we were cleaning the catch. I used a pair of pliers after cutting round the back of the neck, it worked all right but it was hard work when you have about a dozen of them to get through!

I've eaten my dogfish perhaps 2 hours after catching and it tasted fine.... Did blunt my knife skinning them though.
  3. Hi Gwilym, For about a month now i have been using cortland 333 intermediate line.
  4. Hi all, When casting how can i get the line to lay out straight across the water and not with memory coils every couple of feet or so? This memory in the line has been bugging me for a while and as i am only a beginner was wondering whether i am casting wrong. Also, as i pull the line off the reel it won't lay quite straight but always coils back up. What am i doing wrong?
  5. Alright Phil, I will be fishing somewhere in Kent, a couple of mates recommend the place and i am going on tuesday next week. I think it is in a place called Andover? The boys say it is very good fishing, but have no idea what flies to use.
  6. hello, what sort of flies should i use on a small stocked trout water at this time of the year? i am going fishing next week and wondered whther i should use lures or nymphhs. Are buzzers any good or is it too late? thanks. Quinny
  7. Hi, I have been planning to build a raised pond in my garden for quite some time, but i have a couple of questions. For the size, 8x6x4ft what kind of fish could i stock? Bearing in mind i will raise it by about 2ft. I liked the idea of a couple of small koi to grow on and maybe some orfe but i don't know whether they'd jump out ? Also i quite liked the look of albino grass carp but i am worried the same problem will occur. Cheers, Quinny
  8. An old fisherman friend told me to eat fast fish as soon as possible, but to leave slower fish for a day or two before eating. Where do you think pollack comes into all this? The pouting i had caught were in a bucket for a couple of hours after catching, i guess the guts etc. must have tainted the flesh. I saw an old Rick Stein programme and he used pollack flesh to make a clarified fish stock, which he explained was quite a versatile base for a lot of recipes. Quinny
  9. Thanks for the welcome lads, I am going wrecking for pollack in february and i wanted to get a plan for what to do (touch wood) with any fish caught. Last time i went sea fishing off Brighton i caught a ton of pouting- well i wouldnt rate them too highly amongst the white fleshed fish, but poached in milk they were O.K.(This time round i wanted to be a bit more prepared). Thanks for the tips boys and best of luck! Quinny.
  10. Hello again, I was just wondering if anybody has any suggestions for how to cook pollack- it seems to be an underrated fish, even though it is from the same family as cod. Suggestions are appreciated. Cheers, Quinny
  11. O.K thanks Rob, cheers mate
  12. Hello everyone. I have been given the oppurtunity to fish in Norway. It is in a place called Avik Brygge  The boys have said that the fish aren't as big as in northern waters, but you can catch cod, coalies, pollack that sort of thing. I was wondering if anybody knows the sort of tackle and lures etc. i would need to fish the fjords? Cheers, Quinny.
