  1. Sharkbyte that place in the picture , the Kentish Knock , that was a wonderfull place back in the early 70's , big bass all over it .A mate of mine had 3 ten pound plus fish in a morning and pleanty good fish to go with them .It fished well until about 1983/4 when a couple of commercials one from N Kent, Ramsgate I think and a Suffolk boat found out about it ,after they had their go the world and his wife was out there and by the mid 90's it was just another bank , shame realy if they wernt so gready it would have still been good today.
  2. If all shell fish and fish such as monk hake herring lemon sole are tacken out of the fram and we consentrate only on fish that sea anglers are interested in , the commercial catch for England and Wales is only worth £50 million . If all the ! million or so sea anglers chipped in we could by the commercials out, close this site and go fishing !.
  3. It has been colder this year but even then the growth rate for S/E coast fish is a healthy 6.5 to 7.5 cm . Some faster growing fish have grown at 8cm. Please be factual.
  4. Less than 20% of UK tagged bass were recaptured in the SW offshore fishery.
  5. The growth rate of bass has increased in recent years with warmer seas and a longer growing season so some fish that are just below the 36 MLS this year will be over the new 45 MLS the following year.
  6. 85% of all fin fish eaten in the UK is imported mainly from Iceland and Norway.
  7. Thats bad luck Wirsel, there used to be a boat from your district called Irish Mist ,young chap, he did quite well from time to time with salmon and sea trout in his nets . there was a Jowers and a Frost or French ,they had them as well.Have a word with them if they are still about ,they may bring you better luck in the future.
  8. Salmon ansd sea trout were often caught by bass gill netters fishing the off shore sands of the thames estuary. Tax payers money was spent by the EA reintroducing them into the thames only for them to be taken in the gill nets . Nice little earner when no one is watching !.
  9. I thought that may be you, your bait fork stuck in the sand with five nice bass hanging from the handle , two for the B+B and three to take home I think you said !.Those were the days !.
  10. Cranfield ,were you a sheep farmer in a former incarnation ?.
  11. It seems that many people involved in this thread have failed to consider the fact that casting long distance is easyer in Scotland cos the air is thinner , it just that the bull **** is thicker|.
  12. Why would you wish to uptide or boat cast in water deeper than 120 feet, the point of this method is surly to cast away from the noise of the tide passing the boat ?.
  13. In the begining it was not uptiding as I recall but casting away from a boat when fishing shallow water. It was a fellow called Gillepie who wrote in a mag called "Angling" I think who said it reminded him of up stream ledgering for chub.
