  1. And there are also an awful lot of other "anglers" who seem to be very concerned about being "looked down on" Stop worrying what others may (or may not) think of how you are fishing and just enjoy it. I have spent hundreds of hours on some very "hard" carp lakes fishing for Roach and Rudd................and Eels. Not once was I either concerned what others thought, even less concerned enough to comment on AN.

  2. If you get a licence to trap them it's ok , they are really aggressive feeders taking spawn and kill the native crayfish , that is the big problem. A small benefit is that when they shed there outer shell perch and other species love to eat them - super steroids for fish. If you keep record of any perch captures you will see they will grow in size to easily 4lb+ . Get a licence and use as bait I say

It is illegal to use them as bait and return them to the water.............and b####y stupid

  3. Hi Steve, I've just finished digging my 2nd pond in the garden. First off, make it as big as possible, 4X3 is quite small when finished. Plants tend to expand rapidly and take up a lot of room, so go for 6x4 at least. Very little difference in the price of the liner, and even if there was, you will never regret buying big :)

I've always had ponds in all my gardens and never needed to filter them, they very soon settle down and become completely clear.............apart from the rushes and other plants that tend to take over if left.............a good clearout every two years will allow you to reduce the amount but still leave the pond as natural as possible.

By the way, I don't have any fish in my ponds, so no feeding or fish care to worry about, but plenty of other pond life seems to appear naturally :) . My pleasure comes from the lilies and rushes and other water plants.

  4. Thanks for that Budgie :) It seems that over the last few months, all the "good" things I have done over the years are coming together and I am meeting lots of people who remember :) A bit embarrassing at times when the praise is heaped on in front of a small crowd (totally unexpected by me)

I now fish with a guy who reckons I am a genius :kissing: and keeps telling everyone we meet...........he is a lovely fella though :)..............totally correct though :) and it's guys like him that help keep me going especially up those steep shingle beaches.

Still using the motorised trolley, I call it my electric Zimmer frame :clap3:

Like you, I don't have a lot to offer these days, but I do look in almost every day.

  5. I suddenly lost the ability to open any word docs attached to emails. Even old mails stored in other folders. Followed a few links and was given some options, one was that "I already have MS2010 preinstalled on PC...........so...........I I entered my product code and it said it "wasn't a valid code! (It is, 'cos I have used it before)

After some deliberating I decided it might have been an automatic update causing the problem, so I did a system restore and all was OK :clap3:

Checked again this morning and the auto update had reinstalled and back to the same problem! so.....I tried to remove the update without success...no luck, so did another system restore and all was well again.

I have now disabled auto updates.

Anyone else had the same trouble?

  6. I formed a different opinion of that pileup, most of the vehicles were a bit bent and slightly squashed, but that would happen at 30 mph! Very few appeared to have been going "fast" but even at 30 you need a few yards to react and stop.

  7. I have always doubted the "1metre thick" totally ridiculous figure. Probably (or even possibly) it was originally 10mm? And as for destroying fisheries and eating all the weed, this again (by the evidence of my eyes) is further bullshine. I know loads of lakes that get stuffed with weed every year, and they have loads of carp in.

But..once again, a small pond predomitally muddy bottom, and stuffed full of hungry carp (or other fish) will very soon become seriously muddied up and the weed will fail to grow, due to lack of light.

And some of the stuff written about the Murray river is almost a joke.................carp digging out the bank? not caused by abstraction and banks drying out and then further damage by floods?

I am afraid that I have very little faith in most of the findings of experts where fishing and fish ponds are concerned, findings which get quoted and then requoted and then exaggerated. Adding a "respected" name to the findings may make these "facts" acceptable to some, but not me I'm afraid.
