  1. We will never get an English Parliment while all the Scots are in power, it's their way of getting their own back on the English.

How come if Englan are not playing whatever game you like, but one of the home countries is, I support the home country. But when England are playing all the home countries root for the opposition?

I still have them on video. A fabulous series. I particularly liked the mayfly episode.

I think the guy's name was Colin something, but I'll check.

Now I can remember the "mayfly" fisherman was called Paul, and the Salmon angler in the "Grilse" episode was Peter O'Reilly, but I still can't remember the other guy from the "Pike" episode.

As you say a brilliant series it would be nice to see it repeated.

  5. OP-JB:

We have Hugh Miles and Chris Yates to thank for the only programmes that represented angling well.

How about "The Angling Experience" made in Ireland back in the late 80's. The Pike episode was excellent! Careful handling, barbless hooks etc. etc. Good angler as well, some bloke from Cambridge, his name escapes me for the moment. Anyone remember that series and the angler involved?

I'm not trying to make excuses for the tackle trade, but before you criticise too much, just ask yourself "how much do you think the shops and warehouses pay in rent and rates?". How much solicitors charge to draw up a contract etc. We are all being held hostage landlords, solicitors and the like.

    Sorry missed out the "by"

Is fishing a sport or hobby for you?

And is fishing a sport or hobby any way?

Angling is a sport, everything else is a game [including football]

If Angling itself isn't a hobby, then the different components of it are eg. Fly tying, float making, building rods and as my wife keeps telling, buying new tackle!

Colin [only got 1 days fishing in this week, somethings wrong!]

  13. Peter Waller:

Okay, some of you fish but what do the observers of the close do?

Well, today I sat in an office, with no customers, stripping an old cane rod, rewhipping it & varnishing it. Yesterday I sorted through a few dozen, dozen lures, replacing damaged hooks, changing stretched split rings & touching up tooth damage. Another day saw me out fish watching and a spot of bass fishing. Close season, whats that? Doesn't stop you going angling! Might polish all my spoons tommorow.

Trout fishing here and a drop of Salmon fishing in Ireland.

Are you sure its your spoons you are cleaning and not your wifes?

So the scum mistakenly known as journalists have finally found a bit of dirt on Sven. I thought the honeymoon wouldn't last. What gives these low lifes the right to write half the cr@p they come up with. I think it would be a good idea for Sven to pack up the week before the world cup, blame the press and go back to Italy. After all we dont stand a chance anyway. The trouble is we would lose a good manager but keep the low lifes.

As long as he doesn't take Ulrika away with him I couldn't care less where he goes!

    Hiya,

QUOTE]If I disconect, switch accounts in Turnpike to my Demon account everything is fine. The problem is too inconsistant to be a problem with my settings for the web, but consistant enough to make it look like the service is being deliberatly slowed down even though Turnpike shows I'm connected at 50666bps

    Davy,

only 50666bps? The best I ever get is 48000 so I wouldn't worry about speed if I were you!

    Good Luck

since my last posting this has been the first time that I have been able to get this site, despite trying the best part of last night.

looks like NTL is going to lose another customer!!!!

I logged on several times last night, no problem at all. I occasionally have a problem but I do on other ISP's as well, I assume the server is down for maintenance when this happens.

One or two funny things have happened in recent months, such as my settings [POP3 and SMTP] miraculously manage to change without my help? Could this be a cause of your problems? Also I found a load of Porn sites listed in my favourites recently plus my home page had been changed, all without me laying a finger on the keyboard. Any ideas anyone? I would add I have a Firewall [obviously not set up properly]

  21. Howard 13:

I'm thinking about going over to Ireland for a little break probably in mid May and was wondering if their close season is the same as ours?

If it is then I will postpone it for a while.

    Thanks.

    HB.

The only close season that operates in Ireland is for game fishing. Coarse fishing has no close season.

    Good luck,

  23. Following up on my Cormorant posting, I wonder what will happen if a few Gannetts find there way inland and start dive bombing the local reservoirs. Will the RSPB and the government stand firm yet again?

Perhaps if the Cormorants starting sh&%%@$g the beleagured White Ducks, the RSPB would soon organise a cull!!

    Colin.

Yes I know they are part of natural wildlife, but it's unnatural to live in trees in Cambridgeshire.
