a promising area for a decent fish or two then! brilliant thanks for the info I'll have to go for a long walk see where else I can find, itching have a go now!
-
thanks for your reply, went for a walk the other day actually as I have a membership for intertype AS who have the rights to a stretch above Stanwell road. looks awesome and gives off all the right signals but I thought I'd ask as I have a knack for finding good looking yet barron pieces of river!

Hi guys, jesus I haven't been on here in a while! anyway, I was wondering whether anyone has had any recent experience of barbel fishing on the colne brook around the horton/colnbrook area?
-
Definitely seems to have some chub in there. I bet it fought well
-
i sat at the gates of Aldermaston mill from about half 2 in the morning, waiting until 8am for the gates to open. as soon as the time came, the heavens opened up and i found that i'd forgotten my brolly! anywho, the fishing was a little slow and i didnt catch my barbel but my friend had one about 6 and a chub about five. i also had a pike that decided to attack my feeder on the way in!

Why on earth would anyone who's found themselves a good swim share it with strangers on the internet ? The chances are the very next time they go to fish it there'll be someone sat in the swim cockin up their session.
I often tell friends or people I like/ trust about my good spots and will even take them but there's no way I'd blab to the world about my productive spots/ swims on the internet.
Ok, havin a chat about angling practices etc is great but would you actually tell everyone about a special place ?
i see what you're saying, i didn't want to create any sort of argument (not that i have i hope). i understand telling people over the net about special places on a productive well known fishery/stretch of river is probably not the best idea, i was just referring to being the kind of angler who enjoys helping others and not the kind who is hostile upon meeting them on the bank, and as i'm sure you guys have, i have met my fair share of those in the past!

I don't think people will be queuing to give you their info on hard earned swims.
that's not what fishing is about, for me anyway. people are always enthusiastic about helping youngsters etc but when it comes to having a good ol' chat about fish, fishing for those fish etc then they clam up as if sharing that info is against the law/the end of the world. i Know what you meant regarding the 'hard earned' principle of that sentence, but surely you must see where i'm coming from with this comment.

i'll be down there pretty damn early! wanna bag me a big barbel this year!

I'm guessing that most of the mouth damaged I witnessed last week was 'caused' by the line digger into the scissors of the mouth.
Someone suggested to me a short lenght of rubber tubing up from the eye of the hook will cause less damage.
I was wondering if running rigs are potentional better than semi fixed rigs because the fish is having to bear more the weight of the lead witha fixed rig ?.
What ways are there to make your leger rigs safer ?
Tony
most of the fish in that lake have mouth damage, and ive seen some very severe cases from there. i had a holiday there a couple of weeks ago, and when i do go there to fish, i always take great care in playing fish and always carry bongela.

I've had Pike trying to get fish in a keep net but in your case I reckon it was just a coincidence.
ive had that, they dont half have a go at the net!

ive just come back last saturday from a holiday there, and i had a wonderful time fishing in cabin 3, (the first cabin you see as you come into the gate, with two swims) i had plenty of double figure carp and very luckily i beat my pb twice! two 22's and a 23, couldnt ask for more. ive found that at the moment they seem to feed best after dark and in the margins. seems to be the best place and time for 'em. also i was using 14mm fusion boilies and 15mm source.

Down the road a couple of miles rather than in Cookham. When I've enough posts I'll pm you to pick your brain a bit about local spots
its a deal always nice to hear about the local fishing sopts and what people have been catching, gives me a chance to catch some blxxdy fish!

Tried fishing the weir pool at Cookham on Tuesday.. had a few small roach / chubb.
The Thames was flowing very quickly and the water was certainly very well oxygenated after steaming through the weir.
Going to have to find a local stillwater for the next trip I think...
Blxxdy hell the first member of anglersnet ive met that lives in cookham! i live there, and try to get down to odney whenever i can, but focusing on the carp fishing at the moment as im going to have a while week of it next week! cant wait
-
I've never fished it myself but the last time i saw it was when i was looking at it from the entrance bridge into thorpe park, and it did look very big and daunting as well as very weedy. Though saying that ive seen in the angling papers and such like pictures of some very big carp and tench from there.

Anyone been on any succesful carping sessions recently? if so any photos? always nice to hear of what people have been catching.

yes ive had the exact same thing happen with one of my alarms i used before i bought these ones, they were water proof and withstood all weather, until one night i was on holiday with the log cabin by the lake and when i packed in for the night whilst it was raining, i left the pod up on the veranda. the next morning it was struggling to work as it had rained heavily overnight. as well as you, i dried it out and it worked fine again. there must be a certain amount of weathering all alarms can take before that happens
-
they seem to be waterproof, i mean arent all alarms water resistant? i havent actually used them yet but will be next week as i am off to norfolk. i have tested them at home though and they seem to work fine
-
thanks elton, christ they are low prices! very good alarms though. i tried googling them but i couldn't find anywhere that stated the manufacturer either
-
Hi all, ive recently puchased a couple of new bite alarms from my local tackle shop and they seem like very good alarms for £14.99 each, there is a range of them going from VX-2's to VX-3's and 4's. but my query is who is the manufacturer? it doesnt state and where on the alarms themselves or the packaging. Does anyone know? just curious that's all.

I was just listening to the exact same show whilst cleaning my room, i didnt know it was national fishing week either! i just totally forgot. it'll be interesting to hear what John has to say.

i appreciate that budgie, i only asked because it seems like one of those films that would have a moral purpose, or something to that effect
-
can i just ask, now i actually know what happened to the poacher, is there a purpose to this film?
Pike on the Loddon
in Coarse Fishing
Posted
Hi there guys, it's been ages since ive been on here! but i have a question for anyone who might know...
Does anyone have any experience of chub and pike this time of year on the Loddon around the Twyford area? looks perfect for chub so i'm sure they're there but i'm not sure whether its often fished for pike. Any knowledge would be appreciated Happy Christmas to you all and tight lines for the new year.
