  2. Just got back from Barrow, realised I had badly mis-judged the tide (which works out well!!!) so might go for a quick paddle on Bootle / Eskmeals beach Can't complain about the missus coz she bought me some crag hoppers aqua dry waterproof trousers for the yak, and a Crag Hoppers T shirtwith a very appropriate logo / saying on it which I have posted below!. Seeing as women seem to think we (blokes) are always lost, it seemed soooooo to the point
  3. Hi Dingle I am out walking with friends on Sunday (missus is a artic driver and this weekend is her only one off for a while so dare not get out of it ha ha ) I am off to Barrow shopping now (yeah great ) but plan to get out when I get back, but will only have time to get launched from our shore front (eskmeals beach) I think the tide is 5pm ish so should make it, fingers crossed!!! if you could make that?? Obviously last minute job so no problem mate, will have to meet up though (safety in numbers) and I am new to yak fishing (but kayaked for years!!) The sidekick is a good kayak mate! it looks really roomy, and I like the new hatch you have fitted (no leaks??) might get one for me scupper as I was impressed at your fitting mate. Will PM you with my mobile (have to look the number up on the phone (newish!!) If I wasn't being dragged (errr I mean eagerly going shopping ) to Barrow I would be up there in a shot! and fully intend (look forward to fishin the head!) Good luck if you go, or again feel free to pop up here if ya can make it? Like I say, I think I would miss the tide if I got back from Barra and had to get up that wy mate!! ~~~~~~~~~~ talk soon and will pm you with me number!~~~~~~~~SDD
  4. I bought some proper scupper plugs (yellow soft rubber hollow jobbies) and I don't like em, they poke out of the bottom a lot and get in the way of my feet (my feet sit in the rests where the scuppers are!!) so I have ordered some of them squidgy golf ball jobbies to give em a try!. Will post my thoughts on em when they arrive! Speciman, Bon Voyage enjoy SDD
  5. Excellent Darnsarf! I always sweat buckets putting holes in the boat, just fitted side handles by pop rivets and sealed them with a bit of extra silcon just to make sure!!. Seem tight and strong enuf I would be pleased if I could see a pic of how the rig looks along the whole side of the boat! I have never heard of an anchor trolley until I came to this site and still don't know how they are properly deployed! so any advice VERY welcome!! (only used to drift fishing on me yak!). I am also looking for a 1lb anchor, don't want to go much heavier, I am a bit of a minimalist and the place I fish most is very easy to anchor to (1.5lb anchor keeps my mates open boat rock solid!) My scupper does not have the D rings as it is a NZ make so it has these instead which makes em not very useful for this particular purpose (but great for other stuff!!) I take it (dumb question coming!) the idea of the anchor trolley is to let the anchor line swing to the side of the yak for retrieval?? Cheers~~~~~SDD
  6. Brilliant!! cheers Richi that has just answered my question about how to attach the pulley to the stern That will help a lot Cheers mate SDD
  7. Oooooooooooh nice colour scupper SM SDD
  8. Too far for me for a day trip from up here in the frozen wastes of Cumbria, would be time to come back when I arrived!! I love that part of the world though,so does the missus, if I went without her she would go ape!! ha ha Doubt I could talk her into a day or two trip though Good luck though boys, sounds fun Would love to see any pics!! Cheers~~~~~~~~~SDD
  9. Oh no MORE goodies to have to hide from the missus! ha ha Superb link, thanks very much SM much appreciated mate. Have got the yak outside at the mo actually trying to figure how to attach the anchor trolly. The scupper doesn't have guide ropes like the P15 so spose I will have to figure that out as well......durr my brain hurts I only really want an anchor system that will anchor me down tide from the anchor as that is how I prefer to fish, and just let the tide swing me about. I wonder if there is a simpler version of an anchor system?? Might throw that in as a question! Cheers mate~~~~~~~~~~~~SDD
  10. ) Hi Mick, I adore my Sucpper proTW it does everything I want which includes touring (Darnsarf is right the front hatch is HUGE and I fit my tent, sleeping bag, gear galore etc etc). It handles big waves like a pro and gets a fair lick on due to its narrower beam. I used to have a touring sit in side yak made by perception and it keeps up with my mate who still has one!. The 14'9"yak turns very well for its size I think and I use a wide powerful sweep turning a yak and it copes fine!!. All the modern yaks are superb these days and I suppose it comes down to personal choice really. I went for the scupper because I wanted touring first fishing second (forgive me guys ) but I like to cover a lot of ground sometimes and after trying my preferred 2 yaks (scupper and P15) the scupper just got it for extra speed / handling (for me anyway) Everyone here will defend the virtues of their own yak and that is just a testament to how good ALL these new yaks are!!. A good company like BournmouthCanoes helps as it is nice to know that they will back you if you decide you dont like one particular model etc (assuming you haven't chopped it to bits first ) If you can get down / up to Cumbria you are more than welcome for a paddle in my scupper mate Whatever you choose I am sure you will love it!. I am well and truly hooked on kayaking / fishing now! All the best~~~~~~~~~~SDD
  11. Hi all Got most of my kit needed for anchor trolley, just having trouble finding 25mm SS ring and port & S/board clamcleats! Got the rest from Trident (some new 5mm wetsuit boots fell in the trolley too!! ) Oh yeah a set of side carrying handles slipped in too he he Think I also need something to attach the rear pulley too also! Hope to get it going sometime weekend if have time left after visiting friends Best regards ~~~~~~~SDD
  12. Dropped into conversation with missus about "maybe" changing plans for our weekend Sewing my head back on now! Got called DAVID, not good! Good luck boys, wish I could make it this time, but am determined to meet up with you lot and nick all your good ideas Photos, photos, photos Pleeeeeaaaaassssseee so we can at least share some of the fun!!! All the best~~~~~~~~~SDD
  13. Hear, hear mate, gonna try it on me scupper!! Cheers~~~SDD
  14. Great link that, shopping time for bits now!!!!!! SDD~~~~~~~~
  15. God that reminds me of cutting my first hole in my perception Carolina for the hatches. Walked around it for hours, measured, drew outline, re-measured, measured again, and again, sat hatch on top, walked around, head ache tablet, etc etc Started cutting with jigsaw and couldn't see for the sweat beads! Fitted hatches and they sealed fine~~~~~~bragged to wife how clever I was!, she said "isn't that upside down?" and just for a scarey few seconds!!!!!! so I turned the hosepipe on her!!!! Nice one mate~~~~~SDD
  16. Cheers for the link Simon, on that right now Keep that tin of sunshine well guarded mate SDD
  17. Hi Neil Sounds like that could have my name all over it Lets hope for I need a link now how to install a anchor system (not too complicated for my tiny brain ) so will trawl the sites Cheers~~~~~~~~~~SDD
  18. Hi Dingle The misses has a mate in St Bees, think its Ennerdale road or drive or sumatt! It is a big bunga low that looks out towards the sea over a golf course!. Nice spot. So you are doing Coniston! I go there a lot, we take our yaks and have a summer Barbie there etc, don't fish though, don't have freshwater gear, and am quite new to yak sea fishing. Not sorted out a anchor system yet so drift fishing not too far out is my limit really, but just love being out on the water I am determined to get more adventurous though and often paddle out from here (I live opposite Eskmeals range) and off tarn point. There is a red kelp bed which produces some lovely cod and is a quick paddle!!. There are pot markers there as it is a rocky bottom (near selkar rocks) and is fished for lobster. I have it marked on my gps/finder so will give it a go next weekend if weather ok!. Will give you a shout mate and anyone else wanna come up will be more than welcome (could do with the experienced anglers knowledge!) Quite fancy the heads as well mate. Went for a paddle one day (in a sis yak tho) and there was a weird down draught coming over the head, a very strange experience indeed, good fun tho!)~~~~~~~~ keep in touch~~~~~SDD
  19. Simon / Neil, would love to make the Maryport / Silloth thang but Can't this weekend, missus's only weekend off this weekend and we are out with friends, dare not get out of this one, did that last Saturday!! she would kill me ha ha!. Martin could be right tho! 25 mins might be pushing it! Good luck tho boys, hope to see pictures of record plaice I plan to get some sea yakking in the weekend after though (misses is an artic driver so will be working that weekend!) so anyone fancy that ??? Tight lines all ~~~~~~~ SDD
  20. thats the one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ha ha
  21. Hi Spuds I read on here somewhere about sealing the cables of the ducer! Masking tape underneith the boat where the cables go through and also squished around the wires themselves to stop sealant coming through, then mastic gun through the finder mounting bracket gap and squidge a load in!!. Don't know why I bothered really because no water ever got through, even through a few crashing waves, with the finder screen mounted, and when not mounted, I have a neoprene cover that goes over it (actually a little sig bottle cover which just fits nice and snugly over it!!!. Never had much water ingress in the boat to tell the truth, maybe its because I am a wimp and don't go out in rough conditions!!! All the best mate SDD
  22. That should av been 250ft deep~~~~~~~~dohhhhh
  23. Hi Dingle Whats the crack???? I live in Cumbria (Eskmeals just South of Ravenglas Estuary) and oft head out on the shore in front of Eskmeals range area (I know a good Cod spot!!!) Give us a shout if you fancy a bit of a paddle / fish mate, would be glad of the company!!! Like the sound of the sunken village, sounds like good fishfinder playing time I was on Waswater on Saturday, shame I didn't read this message earlier, it was a great paddle (rough in parts though!) and found a bit 250th is deeeeeeeep!! All the best mate SDD (Dave)
  24. By the way Mark, DONT buy a Scupper pro made in the USA if you can, make sure you get a New Zealand made one if you decide on SPTW!!!!! I had this one below before the nice people at Johnson Outdoors exchanged it for my current NZ made one!. The USA one filled with water (quite a way out to sea!) from a badly made rudder moulding and handle mouldings. There were a couple of gallons of water in it when I got to shore and it was a very difficult paddle!. The NZ yak is a WHOLE differend yak (the whole yak seems to be made of thicker plastic to me!) and the quality is SUPERB!!!! Cheers~~~~~~~~~~SDD
