Hello Pelyma,
I take your point about the live baiting but I supose even a lug worm has feelings, but I dont agree with the water vole arguement its a bit like saying "what happens if it waddles into a school and eats all the first form ?" Its probably statisticaly possible but in reality it aint going to happen. Its a Seal not an Alligator. the only case for direct intervention I would agree to, is if it was a threat to poeples saftey. but seeing that no one yet; has, as far as I am aware has fielded that as a topic I still think leave it be.If it becomes a public safety issue let the RSPCA use thier experteise

2)old Dennis Lemon . What a lemon ! he hasn't posted no,But as the person being interveiwed for the report; that was inturn put up for a point of discussion in the form of a link
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/north_y...ire/4345096.stm
With me Thus far ? and seeing as the link was the catalayst that instigated the discusion. It seemed impolite to ingnore the fact that the old bugger wanted to shoot the seal, wich I might add made up more than a small piece of The article in question,If he was allowed too. You couldn't have posted before him, as untill the link appeared on the forum the thread did not exist you also indicated that no one had mentioned shooting them At your time of posting but seeing that you reacted to my post after I had posted wouldnt it have made more scence to read back a bit to see what I was refering to.now I'm not a bright Bloke as any one who knows me will testify too, and also obvious by the fact that Im letting you jerk my chain. But one of us has got to be wrong and it aint me  The Ironey is both you and I both believe, It would seem, that shooting isn't the way forward the differance being I say let the seal make its own way back and you saying move it ,I tried my best to exit graciously but
now I am not playing any more
good night mate.
Ps I HOPE YOU WILL STILL RESPECT ME IN THE MORNING ?

1)Snatcher:
They should contact my mate who carries a licenced 303 in his salmon coble

Warroir, The qouta system here, just adds to our missery, thousands of tons of the wrong fish put back dead, because that spieces has reached its qouta , I have over simplified the problem but it is enough to make you puke.
-
Brian you are Dead right you never mentioned anything about a 303, but you did say no one had mentioned shooting seals and they very clearly did. I also drew a distinct line between vermin, ferral animals of all discriptions, and game, also because It is established practice dosn't make it right, seals come up river thats what they some times do. it isnt out of place, and It isnt an introduced speicies Ive seen them at the Thames barrier, and in the stour ten minutes walk from the centre of canterbury city.
this is nature and what I feel our sport is about, the enjoyment of it and its many faces, this seal is an inconvienaince to anglers. That is all it is, an inconvieniance. like poor weather,May water, the hawthorn or may fly hatch not happening. A lot of the points that you make are fair But an observation that I have made with the exeption of the Ruddy duck,Is the Mink,Fox,problems are as a result of mans interfierence, and influance. not as a result of his pasiveness.I think we are going to have to agree to disagree on this one freind but I have enjoyed the debate thank you.

NEWT,
I think what the lads are trying to say is you wouldn't want to eat a Europian flounder unless you had to, good fun to catch on light tackle but as Croc Dundee said tastes like sh*t. even too, I hasten to add , an eat anything GUT buckett like me!
-
Pete you got In before me re the dolphins you stole my thunder still stand by my piont though.
-
Hello Brian,
A 303 Aint A fishing rod mate.allso the most Humane (and this Is my opinion only and not ment to be inflamitary)thing to do with all our indidginous speacies that have no sporting value is to leave them alone It got there by its self it will leave the same way or Die that is the way of nature.
Pete it wouldn't be much of a forum if we all thought the same mate, the salmon that were miamed couuld they no have been dead in the net and chewed in situ I shoot as a hoby vermin and for the table a 3 cwt seal sit awkwardly in both groups. Just to be the devils advacate if it were a Dolphin or a Porpoise would it still be a problem .both speicies wonder up river on occasion

You didn't mention how big it was mate, never even had a small one off the beach. well done.
-
leave It be,I cant understand the point of shooting it,I know nothing about the feeding habits of seal But being a bit of an old country boy.I do understand the nasty habits of mink,if this seal has got in to a fresh water course fihery It will go away in time. But half chewed and knawed at fish, around the margins sounds like mink (My theory only stands up if the seal is up in the fresh water stretches)if it is in the estuary Aint that where they live?
-
Well done mate!

You made an interesting piont Stavey,
Ive noticed a lot of the fish Ive caught this year Have been out of condition.one of the Bass I had out of the thames should have gone in at around 3.5-4 LB scaled in at 2.4 lb.

Wasn't that informative?
The parcel trick usefull for using up the legs ect
of peeler crab, have seen it dyed some outragous colours in the past but I think pennel rigged whole a cheap highley effective broad spectrum bait.I dont think Ive ever caught anything on a squid head on its own always looks like it should be brilliant must be me.
