  1. I take it we should fish these tight to the margins or will pike take them in deeper open water. A round of applause if you please as I've earned my picture,
  2. I'm going out on a small boat on the river thursday evening, do you think it would be worth trying a surface lure or is it too early in the year. We will be dead baiting to start with then lure fishing as it draws in.

    HELP!

Hi Snipe I have also asked this question, but these lot keep it close to their chests, ask them anything about fishing and they are there but pictures are obviously a no no. I have even asked Lord Elton with no luck. Let's hope this will spring them into action. For both our sakes. Stevie

  5. The Zara mouse is a hard exterior lure so would you have to strike immediately or delay like the softer types
  6. Where can I get a hold of one of those Pete. They look the biz with a single hook !
  7. Do you work for the E.A Argyl ????? Your interpretation is just as the guy told me on the phone. The only other thing he said was that the boat has to have a craft licence/Registration, which this one has. Any tips on boat fishing rivers for pike will be welcome. Ta Steve
  8. The river in question is the river Tees a large river and the area I'd like to fish is the former Tidal water, which still has free stretches. I say former as there is now a superb Barrage on the Tees which has turned the lower river into one of the best in the country. I regularly see others fishing from boats, like today in close season!!!! I would probably be limiting it to evening sessions though. It just seems to be the Ideal way to get at those overgrown unaproachable swims which may just hold a fish or two. Role on the 16th. While I'm on, how effective is deadbaiting in the summer months. I'm usually a winter piker and course fisherman come summer but I'm well and truly taken with old Esox nowerdays.
  9. Another one I need guidence on. My mate has a boat and we're planning to do a bit of Pike fishing this summer from it. Where do we stand when we fish stretches of river controlled by angling clubs as opposed to free stretches. Thanks Steve
  10. Cheers lads any Ideas on the best place to purchase the Heddon meadow mouse and price as they seem a bit elusive, probably as they are so good. Can't wait for the season now. Will it be too early for surface lures straight away ?
  11. That looks just like the one's I have Argyll. I'll have to give em a go in a couple of weeks to see if they do the job.
  12. Cheers lads I have a picture of them on my computer but don't know how to post it, or for that matter do I know how to put an ID photo on. [Obviously nothing in the league of Jeepsters]
  13. Couple of quickies. I've just purchased a selection of snag proof surface lures from the Lure shack, lucky dip. A rat, mouse, frog and a tournament popper[WHATEVER THAT IS] All have hooks wrapped around their arse. Does this affect the setting of the hooks? Also they all have barbs, should I remove these and any tips on how to fish them-set the hooks on theses lures would be appreciated as there is little info on them. Thanks again Steve
  14. Brian, do you not find the Bassy woods stretch to be a bit slow shelving without much to fish to. The only run I had was the one in the beck end. This was winter it may be a different story come summer. What sort of tactics are used to get the larger fish. I had 3 smaller pike on a big S befor the close season but nothing above 5lb
  15. Cheers Ken, I know what you mean about the gear and the big lure thing. I will invest in a lighter rig also to give a choice. Does braid behave on a fixed spool reel ?
  16. Cheers Brian, I live in Ingleby [Hence the "spamhill" title] Have walked along the golf course there and it looks decent. Have fished Goose pastures and had a couple 8lb best. I think Yarm has been banded about behind the Church but I'm yet to have a crack. Best day was when I took my son out to try for his first pike. Using just sprats we put a couple of baits in the little beck end [stony Beck] Bassy woods and he was rewarded with a hard fighting 16.5lb of tees muscle. I had to help him with that one though.
  17. A 20lb pike is my aim, from the river Tees 16.5 best from the river. Sick of hearing about course/Match anglers catching 20 plus fish and throwing them up the bank. There are a lot of pike anglers who would love to catch a 20 and get joy from watching it swim away.
  18. Just ordered the lucky dip cheers, free postage too.
  19. Cheers lads, the whole mouse lure thing has passed me by, obviously and I thought it was just a gimmick thing. The Piking Jelly Shads you talk of, where would I get hold of them as I said earlier the ones I've used were designed for sea fishing but look like perch but have too Much weight in em so I keep snagging and losing them. Just seen a H.M Mouse on E-bay 12.99 is that a decent price ?
  20. I'm not familiar with the H.M.Mouse is it a surface bait? and what size of pike does this type of lure attract. What do you make of the new jelly types available
  21. Just got back into it recently [Pike fishing] and as is probably the norm have done most of my pike fishing in winter with deadbaits. So lure fishing tended to be a bit of a side show whilst waiting for a buzzer. I live really close to the river Tees and will be targetting this come open season, but I want to do a propper job instead of casting and hoping. I have invested in a Gord burton 30-70g Jerkbait rod and have a six shooter reel, I aslo have a range of old plugs and a few Shads which I think are meant for sea fishing but are sold as pike lures. I've loaded the reel with fox driftmaster 30lb braid. I've used it on the still waters and caught 7 so far but nothing above 6lb, it's the river I really want to concentrate on come june. Any tips would be more than welcome.
