  1. 1/4 of an inch seems a lot to leave, will that be ok on the 5501c3 ?
  2. Cheers lads, by spooling I meant the braid when it turns all at the same time around the spool no matter what the drag setting. Wasn't sure of the technical term but made one up.
  3. Niice fish, hard to tell but I'd give it 25-27 is that the river Tees behind you.?
  4. Going by my winter season so far I would say no. The pike are more active and it gives us all a chance to sharpen our lure fishing skills.
  5. Hi everyone, I'm just loading up my Abu for the first time with Power Pro and was wondering what is the best method to avoid spooling, like I was getting on my dare I say it SIX SHOOTER, there I've said it. Cheers
  6. Cheers Bri My main problem seems to be when I want to lay a bait on the bottom rather than pop it up or suspend it. I also like to use the old drilled weights with the terminal tackle the other side and float flat for little resistance. I do use rotten bottoms on my other rigs as they allow but this one I will just have to change my reel line to braid. infact I'll go online and order some now.
  7. Just a Quickie, Have over the last couple of years unfortunately left tackle behind to snaggs. I have been using Mono 15-20lb range, but the enevitable happens from time to time especially on the rivers where the snaggs move. No such problems lure fishing as the braid will straighten the hook if need be. But I'm led to believe that Braid for bait fishing is a bit of a no no due to the non stretching element. I just hate leaving tackle in there when you don't know if the bait is still on

  10. Where's the best place to get hold of some Power Pro 50lb and how much is a decent price
  11. Cheers Argyl, had a problem in the past with the braid turning, will definately use that method. As for casting I seemed to be able to cast/set up the **** shooter ok will this mean the abu should be easier ? If any of the other lads have any thoughts on this reel etc please feel free to let me in on them Cheers, Stevie
  12. As advised I'm the owner of the said Abu, to replace the dreaded six shooter. My mate got me one from a holiday in Florida from Bass Pro £36. Now then, what will it chuck both ends of the scale and how should I set it up/put the braid on, which type etc. Cheers in advance. It does look an excellent bit of kit.
  13. Anyone fished or know of what I might catch in southern brittany. Going to a place called benodet which has a harbour to fish in and off. Probably a lake on the site where we are staying.

  15. John, the tees from stockton up until you reach the higher reaches of thornaby/Ingleby tends to be like a big bowl with no shelf at all and it is an out and out middle of the river job on grounbait feeder. Put about 40 feeders worth out in the same place using a line clip before even putting a hook on. The big loop method is the prefered rig for those in the know. Baiting the hook with the end of a worm held on with a red maggot, this catches bream and roach alike. Don't let that last trip put you off as there are some big weights to be had. Maybe the weather Killed it off. Today looks spot on but alas I'm at work today but I will call on my way home for an hours lure fishing. I fished further upstream the other day when the colour was in the river on the pole and found silver fish in abundance at the top and mid water but not on the bottom, Roach dace and Chublets.
  16. Debatable this one, the definate free stretches that I know are Stckton town centre either side, Yarm from the old skin yard [Atlas wynd] town side all the way past the old fire station and past the church until you reach a footpath before the woods. Also If you turn into Goose Pastures [road] and park at the bottom there are a few pegs in the woods. As you go upstream Middleton one row town side, Neasham town side, Croft upstream of the road bridge, Darlington from Broken scar weir down to Blackwell and Barnard Castle has a free stretch. Now there are a lot of stretches in Thornaby which are fished on a regular basis and Ingleby Barwick. There are no signs up regarding club waters so someone else may shine some light on this Bowesfield also is a heavily fished area but I'm not sure about rights as yet again there are no signs. Pick any of these areas and your sure to have a good day as the river is alive with fish and you don't know what you will catch next. If Brian Carrigher is on later he may be able to shed a bit more light for you but it's a start
  17. Very nice gesture, you don't have an Abu 5501 you want rid of do you ???
  18. Cheers lads. I'll have to have one
  19. My adcock, seems a bit rough looking a bit like untreated alluninium. would that be the word you are on about. I was able to get the bearings replaced by an engineering firm in the early ninetys.
  20. Noticed the pins for life bit. I love them too, I have a adcock stanton circa 1950 which narrowly escaped a garage theft of my gear. I did buy a new okuma pin and it is lovely
  21. Must have been typing when you posted there Peter. I must get me one of those Abu's. As this seems to cast ok the Abu must be a dream. I must say this lure fishing is a bit of an obsession. It's also not cheap. Isaw a guy the other day on the river tees with a very nice collection of lures real big ones and loads of them.Similar to Matt Hayes when he's on a boat showing off cos he gets his for nowt. Daren't think how much they all cost.
  22. Thanks Argyl, I'll try that, yes I'm using braid. Fox Driftmaster, as reccomended by Mick Brown. Not sure if it's any good 30lb, casts easy enough. What's the best type of snap type link to use for connecting the lure as at the start I had those old type which just pull out and lose your lures. Have changed to Berkley ones which seem much stronger.
  23. IS THIS ANY GOOD http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...7164799814&rd=1
  24. Have a problem with my Six Shooter Baitcaster, everything is fine, casting retrieving etc but the star drag where ever it's positioned is exactly the same and is really weak, any thoughts.
