  1. i have had a dunking up to my waist when the bank gave way under foot, but the best one was the father in law, he had packed away most of his gear, walked down the bank to get his bank stick, forgot about a small stump sticking up.

he hit his foot on it and went head first into the lake, the rest of the anglers all gave him good marks for the dive.

  2. ive just booked a holiday at a place calledtowervans in mablethorpe, there is a lake on the site, does anyone know of it or fised it. thanks. tony

i have not been on the site for about 15 years (my uncle has a van there),

i have never fished it but from what i remember there was always plenty of people fishing.

  3. Hi all, looking for 1week away in self catering place. Ideally the lake / river fishing needs to be right on the door step. It will be just for me and my granddad (which is why I need it close).

I like to fish for carp, tench and bream. He likes fishing for pike, perch and roach (all the other sliver fish).

So any one got some ideas to where and maybe some contact details?

If you have some Cavan idea too, we could think about, please say :) it not on top of his list to sleep in.

    Thanks

were in the uk would you prefer ?

if down south you could try here - revels in dorset

we have been there twice and had a good time both times, we are going again at the end of may. there is lots of smallish lake most have carp, bream, tench, etc.

one of the top lakes has been stocked with pike and also has some large carp (so I'm told). if you stay in one of there caravans fishing is included on all but the catfish lake which can be rented for £30 for 24 hours, you can take your own caravan if you want but then you have to pay extra for the fishing.

  4. now theres a idea 3 hooks on 2 rods = 6 fish at a time lol

i have more than enough trouble fishing 2 rods with only 1 hook on each, we went to a carp puddle a few weeks back for a easy days fishing, it was a bit on the slow side so i fished 2 rods (it had been cold the night before) i had nothing for about 45 Min's then i had a bite on 1 rod, just as i started to reel in i had a bite on the other, and as luck would have it both fish headed for the same spot so i had no choice but to pick up the other rod.

what i site i must have looked 1 rod in my right hand trying to lift and lower the rod to keep the line tight, the other rod held between my legs and winding and back winding to keep that line tight.

the father in law could do nothing but laugh.

i did manage to land both fish, then i put 1 rod on the bank for the rest of the day.

  5. hi all, its been a while since i asked one of my daft questions.

just been watching fishing on tv and the guy did some fly fishing and sea fishing, while sea fishing he had multiple hooks, i already knew this setup but when he was fly fishing he had two hooks on the same line (i know nothing about fly fishing). so i was thinking is there any reasons or laws why we could not use a multi hook setup while course fishing, like one on the bottom and one mid water ?

  6. the thing that annoys me on the TV interview is the fact that he says he put light pressure on it with his foot and using his forceps to unhook it he noticed its teeth. :wallbash::wallbash: why the hell did he have his foot on it in the first place, the guy is a p**t and cannot handle fish in the proper manner.

if i see him down the witham i think i will push him in for the snakehead to eat,

  7. we have a chameleon that eats -

    meal worms

    wax worms

    crickets

    locusts

in the summer i will be trading some of my maggots for all the above, i get to try new baits and the chameleon gets some flies.

im the only fisherman i know that can keep some maggots in the living room

  8. I find myself with about 200 lobs and god knows how many dendras still wriggling around in tubs in my garage as I had to cancel my last outing...

Has anyone any simple but effective way of keeping these little darlings alive please, what do you feed them, do you have to add water to the medium they're in, should you remove them from their medium?

I may even try to breed from them if possible...

    Many thanks

    Neil

i have kept worms alive for months in a large polystyrene box (used for transporting fish / frozen food for snakes)

i just fill it with potato peelings raw veg etc.

i put some worms in that i had bought from the shop and they looked better after a week in the box than when i bought them.

  9. Pike will eat just about anything and they have been caught on all sorts of nonsense but you really aren't treading new territory here. Plenty of folk have tried 'exotic' baits with mixed results but at the end of the day they all go back to what pike eat most of the time and that's fish. Fish aren't expensive and they're readily available so why bother using a bait that may or may not bring satisfying results?

If you reckon throwing pinkies out is a waste, chop them up and add them to a prebait/freebie mix. It's all extra blood/meat at the end of the day. I guess if the pinkies were added to a prebait mix and introduced to a swim often enough, the pike might 'tune' into them eventually and then they 'may' produce results as a hookbait but in all honesty, I would much rather have fish on my hook and fish/oil/meal for prebait.

i know what you are saying, and i agree with your point.

if i was going for a pike session and had to buy bait i would buy fish / fish based bait.

i was just trying to find a use for left over mice after feeding the snakes, must keep as much out of the landfill sites as we can.

  10. thanks john.

i really must learn to proof read my posts

this is the quote from their site.

  11. Thanks Jeff, but I think you've got the dates mixed up.

I expect it will cause the usual queues as people panic buy.

    John.

yes you are quite right should read "Saturday 15th December 2007 at 10:00am" :wallbash:

is their a way to alter the heading ?

  12. Hell of a good result  better than the footy err sorry :offtopic: .

But how do you manage rolling a fag in such conditions? and just when you really need one

i make a tin full the night before, that way it can blow as hard as it likes and i can still top up my nicotine.

  13. Used them for Catfish and caught...........but that aint no reccomendation as they will eat anything! They use rats and mice live on Jug lines for Alligator Gar as well in the US.Not my thing but they go into quite a bit of detail about hooking them in the base of the tail so they stay alive and work better.......I live bait but even I have my limits!

dont think i could bring myself to hook a live one.

  14. have been reading this thread with intrest as i like catching perch, but i have never managed to catch anything above about half a pound.

when i put a large worm on i get bites but never manage to land any. :wallbash:

what size worm / hook would you use on a canal ?

  15. do they taste like chicken? :)

    sorry, couldn't resist that!

guess it could work, i remember reading somewhere that mice are used as bait for catfish. personally, i wouldn't fancy it. imagine the state of the things after a few hours in the water. besides, although i don't doubt for a minute that pike eat mice, i'd try and provide them with their more commonly targeted prey, fish.

know what you mean about wastage though. how about buying live mice, i'm sure the snakes would prefer them too.

if we ever get a big one die i will cook it and invite you round for tea, we could have corn snake and mouse kebab's :yucky:

on a more serious point i was thinking about making up some mouse kebabs like the fish pike kebabs the tackle shops are selling.

feeding live nice is a bit of a grey area in law, you are only aloud to feed lives to snakes that will not eat deads, it is not legal to feed lives to snakes that will eat deads, also a live cornered mouse can do a lot of damage to a snake.

  16. first off a bit of background - the wife breeds snakes which eat nice, they range from pinkies to full grown.

the nice are bought frozen and warmed up to feed to the snakes, if the snakes dont eat them they have to go in the bin.

    we also have frozen chicks.

my lad likes pike fishing with dead baits (cannot use lives).

could he use the left overs to fish with ? i dont like to put them in the bin

has anybody used them before ?

  17. I may have been fishing a fait few years and seen quite a lot Jeff but like everyone else Im still learning! If it wasnt for people like you sugesting different things then it wouldnt get me thinking about this kind of stuff. If that was the case sites like this just wouldnt be of any interest to any one.

Definately give the piking ago as Im sure you will enjoy it.As I always say though the easiest way for both you and the pike is to try and get an exoperienced piker to tag along with.Good luck let us know how you get on.

i must say that this forum has been a gold mine of information to me.

i have some experience of pike fishing, mainly lure fishing and helping my lad unhooking when he gets in a bit of a mess.

i have no problem handling pike, i did have all the gear (forceps, long handled thin nosed pliers, unhooking mat etc) until my lad lost some of it.

if somebody could let me know what wire (brand, type etc) i will get some and set up a rig and test different types of knots and will even try soldering them.
