  1. Dont know if you have gone yet but if you havent then you might be able to do what my brother did earlier this year. He took a travel spinning rod and a bit of end tackle then hired one of the locals with a long tail boat and asked the guy to take him fishing and snorkeling. I think him and his girlfriend went snorkeling somewhere first then on the way back the skipper took a detour over some kind of reef or other under sea feature and trolled around a lure. He got one fish of about 2 pounds then something big got a hold and snaped him off and they gave up. It was cheaper than a propper fishing trip but not that cheap I think he said, anyway might be worth a try. Im off to Phuket in the 1st week of october, might borrow my brothers travel gear Have a good time.
  2. Hope you enjoyed them Snatcher. Yes we had a good time at the Mull even with the wind On Wednesday we didnt even bother fishing, we had a drive up to Port Patrick for some lunch in the purple sea food pub, can't remember its name. I have some photos of our trip that I will post later. Thanks for the Snatcher lures. Mark
  3. Hello everyone, I am going to be staying at the clashwhannon caravan park from tomorrow untill saterday with my two brothers. Has anywhere in particular been fishing really well recently? We would like to try for some bass using plugs, does anyone have any hot spots for us to try? We were there last year and didnt catch any bass, hoping to do better this time Thanks Mark.
  4. --> QUOTE(Norm B @ May 25 2006, 09:06 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You couldn't afford it with $140 in your pocket, it must have been expensive. The $140 went to our friends who were kind enough to take us out on their boat St Bruno. It payed for the fuel we used on the day. I think two big turbo Cat engines burn quite a bit of diesel when trolling all day. We also caught about 3 Great Barracuda that wernt that 'big', I had seen bigger when snorkeling before but they were still fun. Mark.
  5. 40lb wahoo when I was about 13 or 14. On the same trip my younger brother also cought a 32lb ish wahoo, had some of it BBQed that evening, it was realy nice. My 40 pounder was sold to a local pub called The Pub for $140. Saw it on the menu the next evening and couldnt afford it Mark.

    Barbados

I know some residents of the BVI that swear by the use of frozen chicken and as a former resident I know that it works for snapper and its easy to buy, squid is ok to but goes smelly very quickly in the sun out there. If you can, take some plugs with you and maybe a couple of top water popper types too. When we fished for snapper the best times were dusk and into darkness, I think this is because they come out of their hidey holes in the mangroves or wherever and hunt in darkness. Hope this helps a bit even if its not specific to Barbados. Mark.
  7. Hello About 16 years ago my little brother cought a puffer fish. At first it wasnt very big but then it was, when we landed it it slowly squirted out water everytime we toutched it, eventually it wasnt very big again. Fish was safely returned after we all had a go at making it squirt water. This was in the caribbean not south shields. Mark
  8. caught absoutly nothing on the popper everytime its been used I just realy started using them because I get sick of snagging expensive lures and heard that they work quite well for bass. Yes I was there on holiday untill today, back in durham now I stayed at the clashwhannon caravan park and it seemed as if most caravans contained a group of fisherman. was back at the beach on the rocks to the right yesterday evening with 2 of us using a popper and one of us was using a fly on a spinning rod. all we got ws one mackerel. left a bit dissapointed as the only bass I have ever caught was from south shields peir and was 3 inches long. over all though the fishing was quite good, caught my first dog fish and first wrasse, the wrasse was quite big. a few largish pollock from the end of the mull, not bad. I will be back at some point, hopefully when there is less wind so i can get the fly rod out. Mark.
  9. Hello first post here, ourwullie80, just trying to guess where you were fishing last night, did you by any chance give a fish to somepeople in a camper van parked where you were fishing? If im right then I was there with my 2 brothers last night and saw you leave. If you go there again watch out for the seal, it was after my popper and chasing someone elses hooked mackerel Mark
