Hi Volusian- Welcome...
For Paddling/Angling enjoyment, my vote (for what it is worth) is......
Scupper Pro TW - First Choice (1)
Prowler 13 - Second Choice (2)
RTM Mambo - Third Choice (3)
But it's very much horses for courses........
Scupper Pro is the 'Steeple Chaser'
Prowler 13 is the 'Hunter'
RTM Mambo/Ocean Frenzy is 'a good solid hack'
Given a choice between a ride or no ride the choice is simple.... no, not a bl--ding Jet Ski!

Sorry David, I don't do morse code........what did he say?

I thought that the principal of the 'Micro Hydro Turbine' (shown on the attached site) would be appropriate if it could be made small enough and generate the sort of energy you would need; this one is obviously too big but the idea of being able to operate the generator by tide and paddling would seem to be fairly appropriate; probably completely unfeesable with current technology but none-the-less in-keeping with the general ethos on this forum.
The flexible solar panels shown on this site do however look like they might offer the sort of potential that you are after.

OK, OK..... so the value of Hugh Stokers 'Sea Fishing in Dorset' hit an all time high and shares in Amazon went through the roof......... it was a mistake I say!

Cheers for that CJS2 and sorry if my earlier post was misleading.
Unfortunately my AF18-70 DX S (which came with a D70) has a problem and I can no longer use the full wide angle or zoom. I am guessing that something must have got into the thread. It is off for a quote to be repaired at present which is a tad dissappointing for an 18-month old bit of kit that has been cared for, but I have not heard of anyone else having had problems so I guess it's just bad luck; for now the filters will have to wait but your post has certainly demonstrated the need for some investment in this regard.
(Before anyone suggests it; neither camera nor lense has been anywhere near my Yak!).
Thanks again

Any chance you could re-post the photos CJS2?

If my humour was lost and misinterpretted I apologise. I preferred shot 2 which was taken with the UV filter. For me this gave greater colour contrasts making the red of the lifebuoy and the greens of the hedge and watering can stand out and greater warmth from the autumn sun on the timber came through and overall I felt that this was the more interesting shot of the three and the one with the most artistic merit. Sadly we can no longer appraise or appreciate the photos.

Great stuff guys, cracking photos!

OK, the difference is 'the watering can is missing from the third picture'.........

Give it some big yellow spots and there could be some demand from this forum...........

Sorry Bazza, I really did not wish to offend you in any way at all.
It was as Richi says, an attempt at humour and if I have inadvertently offended you, I am genuinely sorry and hereby apologise.
The idea remains a good one and I was not faulting it at all but expressing frustration that a simple solution to a taxing problem may not be able to be used because the Nanny State says ' you can't do that...'
However, if you are an anarchist then you could probably do pretty much anything you wanted without challenge. Ironic

" Ello Ello Ello...... Mrs Bazza .....
......Tail lights and number plates dropped off did they Madam?
this tow hitch ?
got this from Halfords did we?........
.........The Plumb Centre eh?.......hisssss.....
.....you have an engineers report I presume.......tut tut tut.......
....yes I know that you were only pulling it up the hill.....and, that it really couldn't be your fault that the other driver decided to embed his vehicle in your kayak....
but I am afraid that it really is not my problem is it madam?
..... and no, I dont know what your insurance company is going to say either?"...................................
Sorry Bazza, I do think that it is a great idea, but this is the Nanny State.......................
..........mind you if your wife drives a green, hand-painted, flower-encrusted 1972 Bedford Luton Van with no-tax & bald tyres, has a pair of mange-ridden whippets tethered with bailer twine in the cab, sports oversized hand-knitted multi-coloured jumpers, knee length Oxblood Doc Martens, dyes her vaseline matted hair red & green with food colouring, has a face full of rings, a tongue full of studs, an @rse full of tattoos, smells like a bonfire has a sharp lip and a gutter vocabulary to match, perhaps she may have more luck..........

Hi GB
I think that a few of the lads have the Pentax Optio W20 which is waterproof without needing to buy an extra case and with a 7 Megapixel CCD is able to produce some cracking images. At around £180 it should not break the bank either.

Speciman fishes the IOW from the mainland...............is that any good?

Hi Mark,
I think this is your £50 solution ...
http://www.anglingclassics.co.uk/acatalog/...n_Thompson.html
If you are mostly fishing The Broads these should do you proud but if you think it likely that you are going to get tipped out then a dry suit or dry trouser/dry cag set up might be the one to ultimately aim for.
A set of neoprene chest waders will keep you warm and dry as long as you dont need to swim in them.
I really cannot think of a better value solution.
Good luck with your deliberations.

Hi Mike,
The Bilbao was my first introduction to yakking and I made the decision to buy a yak after I had seen one.
A mate and I popped down to Kimmeridge late one afternoon with the intention of fishing into the evening and we met a couple who had picked up a pair of Bilbao's that afternoon and taken their youngters out with them into the bay. We chatted to them for a few minutes and this seemed like the answer to my prayers as to how to get to a fishing mark that we could no longer reach due to cliff erosion. My mate's ideas about drilling fixings into the cliff and abseiling down did not appeal you see.
Further research led me in a different direction but I think that had there been a few more folk on this forum talking about Bic's and not about Prowlers, Capers and Scuppers that I would have one now.
I still see the odd Bilbao at Kimmeridge and am simply amazed and dead impressed at how rapidly a pair of them can be got onto the roof of a vehicle without the need for any fancy roof bars. If you just want to get out without any fuss they seem like the perfect plan.

Hi Darnsarf,
I am still snowed under too and now envious that you will be able to get out on Sunday also.
Should be a few of those low notes about so 'tight lines' and let us all know how you go.

Best bet is DENNINGS TACKLE & GUNS LTD . 114 PORTLAND ROAD . WYKE REGIS . WEYMOUTH . DORSET . DT4 9AD . 01305 783145
They are around a mile before the Ferrybridge on the right hand side on the main road to Portland from Weymouth.

......or the cost of the time spent monitoring this forum gleaning advice and recommendations and getting your fishing fix........and the cost of the therapy to wean you off it.........
Kayak fishing should be banned!
It is more expensive than you think it is going to be.....the Kayaking element is too much fun, the scenery is too much to take in, the folk you meet doing it are just intolerable, and all that exercise cannot be good for you.... but the worst thing is that I cannot spend as much time doing it (kayak fishing) as I would like.
Abandon the idea now my friend and save yourself a lot of grief and expense!

Marvellous achievement and a great read. A big 'well done' and thanks for the entertainment. Halibut next ?

Thanks nomoretequila; I thought it might have something to do with Bean Jars but only know this as a Guernsey Dish and did not realise that 'Les Crapauds' had nicked the idea. Ta for the response.

You mention permission to paddle most of the waterways in the UK. Would you please elaborate. Thanks.
Hi Steve, this is what I meant:-
http://www.canoe-england.org.uk/canoeeng/2...ip-prices-.aspx
(British Waterways Licence and Thames License too). As I recall the British Waterways License does not just cover Canals but rivers too (but not all rivers). I hope that this is of assistance.
Llangorse trip - new thread for the photo's!
