Saw that the wind had dropped right off and decided to make the best of it.Launched from Mudeford about 1am and took the ebb out through the run. Made it to Pout Hole in about 1/2 hour.Took quite a while to locate a pot bouy but eventually managed to find one in about 36 ft of water.Saw a couple of other boats lights who were obviously fishing out at the ledge. Had taken a box of Squid,Rag,Sandeel,mini-squid.Opened the box of Squid to find that they were a lot bigger than usual. When presented on a 8/0 4/0 pennel they looked quite a mouthful.Wasn't too confident as lately the Conger have preferred fresh Mackerel. First Squid bait went into the water and after about 20 minutes the first big bite and the fight was on.After a few minutes managed to get the it to the surface where it wasn't too happy, thrashing about on the surface in the darkness. After a few minutes it had calmed down enough to get a closer pic and release Baited up my second large Squid and dropped it down. Again, no longer than 20 minutes had passed and I was in again!followed by a slightly easier tussle Conger no.2 came to the surface 2nd Squid bait-----2nd Conger. Released no.2 and baited up large Squid no.3.also decided at this time to fish with only one rod This time the bait got hit but failed to connect so baited up my 4th Squid. After about 1/2 hour got a lovely bite, struck and connected and brought this beauty to the yak(biggest so far this year) A good 5lb er but exact I'm not sure as the scales were in the van. 4 Squid and 3 good fish--what a session. The wind had picked up a fair amount, still fishable but it had put a real chill into the air. Stayed until just before Sunrise I love fishing this mark!

Met up with Overrun Kayakkarma and Phooey for an Avon Beach evening launch. What a Conger session!Started off with small fry including Pout,Bream,Bass and a new species for 2007 Scad(why do they call them horse mackerel?do horses eat them or what ) Then got a thumping bite on the rod with 1/2 mackerel on it,took the strain and the fight was on.After a few minutes the beast came to the surface even though I've caught plenty of Conger from the Yak my heart was beating a hell of a lot quicker than normal.Got him to the yak for a close up then sent him back, hoping that Phooey would catch him. About 1/2 an hour later hooked another one the same time as Phooey did.Made short work of this one although it was quite a size and left my Anchor/Bouy set up to paddle over to Phooey to take his pic, you'll have to wait for his report for that!(or have a look on the other side)All I'll say is it was our best Conger night ever! Must say was very impressed with the brightness of Overrun and Kayakkarmas Nav Lights. I'm off back down there in a while.................................. the next day(yesterday)................. Decided to launch from Mudeford Quay around midday.Paddled round to where we had the Conger last night and found a pot bouy to tie up to.Had 3 rods out.Caught loads of small Bream Thought I'd have a go for some mackerel and some of them were huge Soon ended up with a bagful and decided I would try again at night for another Conger. Had rigged the sail at launch and the wind took me all the way back to the harbour entrance sailing through the race the race(on a calm day) Launched again at 10pm,straight round to the same mark(against a fair bit of wind and tide)anchored up in 30 odd feet on pretty flat ground Convinced that I'd catch a Conger within the first hour, and I did! (sorry about the picture quality, but if you look closely you will see the congers mouth and yes Hursty a bottle of chocolate milk!) didn't stay as long as planned because it rained quite heavy, and didn't like the look of it(or the forecast !)but it was worth all the effort to get Conger no.4 for 2007

would it fit a hooker too

launched at about 1pm,took the ebb out through the run and out to the mark at a steady 4.5mph.Few whitecaps mostly due to wind over tide and quite a large swell but it was fishable(in a P13 ).First up was a Wrasse followed by a tiddler that I'm not sure what it is?suggestions! by now the whitecaps had gone but there was still a reasonable swell was getting piranna like Bream bites all afternoon and caught quite a few but none large enough for the pot as I had ran out of mackerel bait decided to feather up some more, and soon ended up with enough for today's trip with Phooey too At about 9pm decided to paddle back in to the sunset and what a sunset it was! wonder what today will bring?
