  1. Our financial contribution(£21 + 25p)remains outstanding value, £21.25 divided by 365 = under 6 pence a day and even if you only fish one day a month it will only have cost you £1.77. Not bad for a day's entertainment thinks I, especially when I see people paying over £4 for 20 cigarettes, £2.50 for a pint of beer and how much would it cost to entertain ones self by sitting on this site all day instead of sitting on the bank fishing? Such a nominal sum of money should not be moaned at although I realise some are not as financially lucky as myself. Maybe the EA could have consessionary fees for those able to prove low income or create a scheme whereby said people could carry out voluntry work such as bankside litter clearing, swim clearing or even a few hours bailifing a week to pay for their license.

I think the term rod & line license is out dated and should be revamped to EA Angling Section Membership or some similar smart sounding title. You shouldn't need a license to use a rod and line, it's hardly a dangerous weapon now is it. I think if people felt they were joining some sort of club (hense membership)then they'd not begrudge parting with a few pennies!!!!. I for one would willingly pay "twice" what we do now to enjoy my sport and if need be would make cut backs elswhere.

  3. Hi All,

Moving house in July and have found this lake in a nearby village (Caxton). Can't get near the lake for a reccie as the gates are padlocked, I assume the owner is adhering to the Close-season (good for him!!!!). Anyone out there ever fished the lake or know anything about it.

  5. Just bought mine via the internet (as last years). It was SO easy. We really have no excuses not to get one these days do we????? It cost an extra 25p but saved me the hassle of queing up at the PO.

Anyone caught without one these days can have only one reason, they ARE trying to get away with cheating the EA and we the caring anglers should expose any we discover.

  7. Thought I'd picked up a bargin went I popped to Chelsford with my brother a couple of weeks back. He'd seen an advert for a cheap Sundridge Nimbus suit. I only went for the ride (from Cambridge) but was tempted into buying a Shimano Stradic Quiver 110. The price was reduced down from £112.50 to £52.50 (I paid £50 cash). Bargain thought I. Was playing with my new toy later that evening and to my horror it snapped just below where the push in tip inserts into the third section. I had not exerted any pressure what-so-ever on the tip but merely picked up the top two sections and it went "ping".

I drove back to Chelmsford on Saturday and the shpo in question replaced the rod without any questions, even gave me a free spare tip, so far so good. I came home a happy chappy. That is until I visited my local tackle shop and declared my sins (buying from another shop). The owner (who I consider as a freind)said I'd made a mistake buying this particular rod and that all tackle shops had received a letter from Shimano explaining and acknowledging the design fault. Shop owners were apparently given the option to return all their stock. Does anyone know if that was the case or was my "freind" on a wind up. If he was winding me up he did a good job and kept a straight face while suggesting I should return the rod post-haste and demand my money back. As the first rod broke so easily I tend to think he was being straight with me.

Has anyone had problems with the rod?

    Cheers - Phil

  11. Hi All,

Had a few hours piking @ Roswell Pits in Ely, Cambs last Sunday. Needless to say neither me or my brother caught any but we're sort of used to that now after 8 blank sessions this year. Anyway packed up early to have a walk round the lake to suss out likely looking swims. We found some cracking tench and breamy looking swims and have now forgotten our years failings with the pike and started looking forward to those early morning summer tench/bream sessions. Do or have any of you fished this venue in the summer?? would appreciate any info or tips. We spoke with the 2 bailifs for some time and picked their brains regarding pike and zander potential but at that point hadn't even thought about tench & bream etc etc.

    All info gladly received.

    Cheers - Phil

  13. Received a plastic push-fit buckle for my JRC rucksack in this mornings post. The only reason I know this is because I'm off work sick and when I finally ventured downstairs to let the pup out in the garden (he'd been whimpering for ages but then again I am a man and I was convinced this cold was gonna kill me!!!) I found just a few very small damp fragments of an envelope piled neatly on his blanket, the plastic buckle layed by their side. There were 4 other letters still on the doormat completely untouched, typical. I can't repeat the names I called the pup but the air was a bit blue.

Could not make out any of the writng on the few bits of paper he'd decided not to consume so I know not from where it came. A VERY BIG thank you to who ever it was, please make yourself known so I can thank you properly.

Anyway must go now the pup needs baisting and the yorkie puds need to go in the oven.

Thanks Again, made an ill man happy!!!!

    Cheers - Phil

  15. Picked this subject up from the Sea fishing Forum. Has anyone else noticed that many of the fish pictured in the weekly mags do not always look as though they measure up to the claimed weights? The Sea Fishing post was with regard to a 40lb cod (Page 31 of 19/2 issue). I've only done a little sea fishing so shouldn't judge the piccy but it sure don't look 40lbs to me!!!!!

I've had many-a-doubt over recent times where pictures of various fish claim to be many pounds heavier than the picture would suggest. I know the camera can do funny things and good fish are not always captured on film looking at their best but surely those that decide wether to use a particular photo/story could use their professional judgement rather than just printing what the captors claim. As mentioned in the Sea Fishing post I'm sure we can all remember the scam with the computer enhanced pike last year. Is just getting your face in print worth it?

  17. More of a freshwater man myself but did a few boat trips 4/5 years back and even I can see that fish isn't anywhere near 40lbs.

I've noticed a lot of piccies in the weekly mags that do not look as though fish are anywhere near the claimed weights, do the editors just take for granted what they are told and print pictures to try and impress the readers? What do they take us for complete idiots? Surely they should apply some form of "professional" judgement before going to print

  18. Hi all,

bought a new rod on Saturday. Thinks I got a bargin as I payed only £50 (sale price) when RRP was £112.50. Can anyone tell me where I can acquire extra push in tips from? It came equiped with a 2oz tip but I would like to have a couple more in my armoury. Tried the universal (supposed to fit most rods) type in the shop but they were too thick and would not push in.

    cheers - Phil
